There is no such word 'Keling' representing the ethnic indians.
Our forefathers and personally i had explanation from my grandfather which he is no more eplained, the word Keling was used to call upon ice cream sellers those days who will go around with bicycles and bells.
The sellers then rang his bells which will sounds as 'kling , kling'. It may sounds funny with those who wanted to buy the ice cream will call the sellers name for example 'Kling come here, i wanted to buy ' Most of this sellers were Indian immigrants or Indian-Muslim immigrants from India.
Those explanantion and link in Misplaced Pages were manipulated in order to promote the existence of the word without any basis maily supporting deragarotry remarks to Malaysia Indians which promote racism.
I am a Malaysia Indian also receive range of abuses from malays school days which when my grandfather who used to work during British time in Malaya explained the word for 'Keling'.
PLEASE REMOVE THIS LINK FROM WIKIPEDIA WE DONT WANT ANY KNUCLEHEADS KILL SOMEONE when he/she addressed with this name.
There are people still exist who are emotional without knowing that this word does not exist and may prompted to injure other.
Please do not promote such link without any verification.
Regards Uvaneswaran Vijayan

wasn't there some controversy about keling being in the kamus dewan?Borisblue 06:04, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Use in English speaking countries
This word is in the List of ethnic slurs where one condition for listing is used in the English-speaking world. Why? Either it should not be listed there or this article should be extended to explain the usage in English speaking countries, I think. Tierlieb 22:36, 6 April 2007 (UTC)
- It should be listed there, because people in Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei also use English as the second language, and yet the term is also used. So, there is no reason why the word should not be included in the list. Hezery99 (talk) 02:49, 22 December 2007 (UTC)
keling is king
hi sir,
in yr 1402 , when parameswara found melaka, he was came with indian kings from KALINGA kingdom , while parameswara tried to explain to the local sakai people (jungle malays), that they are from kalinga, but the stupit sakai people say kalinga as keling, they understood keling means king, then all of them bow to the kalinga kings, after parameswara killed by the malays out of jealosy, they changed the meaning of the kalinga -king to keling to labourer.
please add the word keling word to king
or keling - indian kings from india founded melaka in 1402 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.50.140.97 (talk) 03:14, 3 March 2009 (UTC) hi sir...above comment is most stupid, ignorant, crazy comment on wikipedia.if you are indian your insult to your race.go read history textbook! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.54.41.175 (talk) 17:10, 10 January 2010 (UTC)
What Stupidity is This??
Parameswara was a MALAY Prince from Sumatra. From the Srivijaya lineage! Indian cultural influence was the reason the names used by Malays at the time. Not sure whether you are an Indian or someone who's trying to put Malay and Indians at loggerheads but not yourself an Indian. Get your facts right!! Malays have been very civilized way before the Hindu-Buddhist Kingdoms of Langkasuka and many other Malay states. Pahang has existed as a Malay state sometimes under the influence of Siam and then Srivijaya. Your idioctic behaviour is sickening to your own core you RACIST!
Indian bigotary
This is unacceptable. Before i edit this article years ago, this bigots claims that the word keling originated from sounds of chains which was made when they work on railways. The truth is the word keling is not offensive hundreds of years ago but only become offensive after arrival "modern indians". this must have got to do the socioeconomiy, behavior and attitude of newly arrived indians. TRUTH- Parameswara is Malay from palembang. Truth- long before Melaka, they were many Malay/native kingdoms like Langkasuka,Srivijaya etc.Truth- they were mostly Hindus or Buddhists before becoming muslims.Malaysian indians are creating fantasy alternative history that the nation were populated by indians before malays migrating from elswhere. Evan if those kingdoms were populated by indians they would have married locals nd "absorbed" to mainstream. The guy who claims parameswara is india is plain stupid and ignorant. ...but yes kalingga was once great kingdom which have strong influence over this region culturally and economicly at least. And kingdoms of south east asia were great UNTIL destroyed by the cholas(who contributed to nothing but destruction of civilsation) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sureshnaidu (talk • contribs) 13:54, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
