Harassment and stalking of Misplaced Pages users (editors, administrators, or others) who chose to edit the encyclopedia either anonymously, or pseudo-anonymously, is a serious matter. A number of websites hostile to good will and the editors of Misplaced Pages choose to engage in activities that could undermine the privacy, anonymity, physical safety, and well-being of editors. The activities range from posting harassing comments, physical threats, libel, defamation, or attempting to 'out' the private identaties of Wikipedians. For the safet and well-being of the overall Misplaced Pages community, attack sites should never be linked to, nor promoted by editors.

What is an attack site?

For the purposes of Misplaced Pages policies, rules, and procedures, in regard specifically to Misplaced Pages contributors, an attack site is a site that engages in any of the following:

  • Harassment of Wikipedians
  • Legal threats toward Wikipedians
  • Defamation of Wikipedians
  • Where some of the web site content is dedicated

For purposes of deciding what is an 'attack site', there is no difference if it is a web site ran by one individual (such as a private website, or a blog), a virtual community (such as another Wiki, or a message board/forum), or if it is a purported news source. The site can still be considered an 'attack site' for engaging in the above actions, either directly, indirectly, or by condoning it by neglecting to remove or police it.

Linking to or promoting attack sites

Per policy, precedent, and commonly accepted procedure, linking to such sites directly, indirectly, or to 'lead' people to them is serious matter, which is a potentially blockable offense. Promoting such websites is no different than linking to them.

Removing attack site links

When found, a qualifying attack web site link should be removed. If on a user page, as a courtesy, leave the user a note explaining why it was removed. If found in article space, or in archives, removing it with an edit summary note should be sufficient.

Blacklisting

Particularly virulent or hostile web sites may be deserving of spam blacklisting for the safety and well-being of all Misplaced Pages users. The active Misplaced Pages spam blacklist can be found here.
