Parkan was a fortified outpost built by the Ottoman Empire in 1546 as part of the defense system of Esztergom. It lost its military role after 1686 and was soon demolished. The fort was located on the territory of present-day Štúrovo.

History

Kakath was a village at the crossing of the Danube opposite Esztergom in the Middle Ages. It was first mentioned in written rekord in 1075 as Kokot. The settlement was totally destroyed in 1543 during an Ottoman invasion.

The Ottomans built a small fortress (parkan) west of the site of the destroyed village as part of the defense system of Esztergom in 1546.
