Shrink down your picture

The picture you added takes up too much space, shrink it down or you will need to use { { - } } marks. But by all means add it in if it is an real picture. Since your are a photographer maybe you can help add in pictures to other politicans because I have trouble getting them for many pages I edited. Just wanted to make sure you were not an vandal because there was a lots of vandalsim on pages by random ip adress users.CS California

You can shrink down your picture and up load a new one (check in file history of your file). Someone also needs to find out when he is born and where in guangdong he came from.CS California

Problematic Biased Input Response

Is it just me or is the entire article a word for word copy from his website?

It sure was, but I've reverted it back to a free version now. -Wiccan Quagga 05:16, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

There was no articles that were given to me that were campaign bias that left nowhere. the picture was the only one available from an old chronicle newspaper I had. The empty braket sign { { - } } was to organize the article around the large picture that was imputed.

Point 4 Please don't use brackets that lead to no where Which brackets lead nowhere

If the information was "disputed" just change it and indicate why, you dont have to make a big deal about it. As you commented no "bias information should be added." I agree that bias information should not be added. The secondary bracket edits were to fix the links so they just summarized the information instead of showing the whole link. NO LINKS were Deleted.

Your link were listed in an unorganized manner displaying the adresses check links on other politican cites they were all organized History page of leland yee articles:

  • Death Threats Over Video Games
  • Supervisor Yee's plan includes ban on new ventures in the Tenderloin, March 31, 1998
  • Salon.com,Grand Death Auto
  • Suit tying video game to murders may proceed
  • Violent video game blamed for deaths, Matier and Ross

"By all the useless re-arranging you make it hard for people to research and cause some delay in accessing said information." (TalkAbout) How do people find stuff if it is unorganized?

You mentioned:

  • Police and parent groups are concerned about violent video games causing children to be desensitized to violence. (why are you talking about parents when the article relates to Leland Yee?) They also believe that the video makers should be held accountable in these type of crimes. Others believe it is not the direct cause of the violence. (you indicated believed twice which is not factual. Why are they included. It still is unrelated to the main article leland yee. We are not writing about the relations between video games and desensitizing children) Both of Yee's bills passed with a wide support due in part by all the media attention and support by parents.(this last sentance should be added to the point with bill 1792)

Note that the bottem two points can be combined because they relate to Bill 1792 & 1793. Why was the combination reverted??? Death threats is a minor aspect and should be combined.

  • Yee is the author of California Assembly Bills 1792 & 1793, which was signed into law on October 7, 2005, which would prohibit the sales of "ultra-violent" games in California to persons under the age of eighteen. Judge Ronald Whyte issued a preliminary injunction against the law on December 22 2005. Judge Whyte will soon deliver his final opinion on the constitutionality of California Assembly Bills 1792 & 1793
  • Yee received death threat as a result of authoring Assembly Bills 1792 & 1793.
  • Why were these point made significant since the article should be factual?
  • Points I made still incorporated the non-bias information provided?

Point 7 The photo you uploaded has been removed on two occasions by the wiki folks...see your talk page because you do not cite the source.

Which wiki folks removed this check history! the only people who modify it are not even members of wikipedia. I have been modifying this page since 06:18, 30 May 2006 (check history) and the picture only has been taken off by non wikipedia users. The picture sent in by TalkAbout does not cite the source either.

Point 3 Please check your spelling. You wrote:

  • Finance Committee, he championed fiscal responsibility and accountability and established the largest "Rainy Day" budget reserve in San Francisco's history. Yee

Why start an new sentance with just yee and not finish it? Everyone makes mistakes just fix it and indicate that it is an minor edit. You dont have to wine about spelling when it is such an minor issue. It seems like you copied this information through cutting and pasting. It is not problematic if you can easily change it and write bias information read articles linked. I don't know why you have to make such a big deal about such a small problemCS_California

Signing in Wikistyle and use of links

Hi just a hint on how to use the Wiki. Signing comments ; When you leave a post on a discussion page, sign off automatically using four tilda signs from your keyboard, that is the ~ sign usually made by an alt-n or similar depending on your input settings. Four tilda will automatically sign your username and time of post whilst hiding your IP address. Making links ; Likewise, the use of two square bracket signs such as [[ is to make a Wiki link automatically is NOT used to turn text red. It is NOT used for long sentances but for words with Wiki topic pages already established or worthy of establishing. When a single word turns red, it means that there is no existing wiki topic page for it to link to. Vandalism and 3RR policy It might serve you to read up on some of the official policies of the Misplaced Pages such as the Three-revert rule (or 3RR) and the processes by which to report vandalism or rouge users/IP address to the admins, e.g. Requests_for_investigation. If you do enough good work and contributions, you can asked to bemade an admin which gives you more power to protect the Wiki and defend it against vandals.Good luck. 195.82.106.244 14:04, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

  • To indent contributions to discussion pages, use one or more colons, e.g.

It is convetion that each new contributor indents their contribution to a discussion to make it easier to read and see where one finishes and the next starts. Thanks. 195.82.106.244 14:08, 20 May 2006 (UTC)

Read the manual and guidelines. When reverting an article state that you are reverting and to which version. By doing so, you establish the pattern which makes it easier for the admins to decide who is right and who is doing wrong. Editorial Advice

(a) Try and find sources for the claims made; (b) if you cannot find sources, mark it as {{fact}}; (c) after waiting some time (discretionary), delete and move to talk. That is more or less the way I would do it. But there is no explicit policy that dictates that in that manner. ≈ jossi ≈ (talk) 18:28, 18 July 2007 (UTC)

ShotSpotter Gunshot Location System

Talkabout,

Thanks for adding that trivia. I recently added to the folklore of RWC, also. However, it seems I am destine to inform you that the very system you describe has never been shown to be effective. The reasons vary. In any case, I would be remise if I did not point this out, let alone add that to your fine addition. In any case, I considered it in poor taste if I was to edit your addition. I will allow you that happy privelege(sp?).

Pre-eclampsia

Thanks for comment and suggestion to come up with some other addition. I had rather intended to imply in the edit summary that steroids were given for sake of the baby because a premature delivery could occur, rather than specifically for the reason why premature delivery was to occur - my attempts to abbreviate this for the edit summary comment were less clear thna I had wished. I also thought the phrasing (of mother/family having to request) needed reworking for better encyclopaedic style; much monitoring is required and sentances such as "X & Y are monitored" or "Where a premature delivery is likely to occur administration of steroids helps minimise ..." seem, to me, to read better. More importantly the article already mentions the use of steroids, so this seemed duplication. However I agree some further mention of issues seems indicated :-) I have therefore copied your post to Talk:Pre-eclampsia, placing a response and possible suggestion there for other editors to join in over. I need some HELP

Hi,

I am having a mediation problem and would like some help on this in the Brahma Kumaris discussion page. I have a fellow Named:Avyakt7 AKA Riveros11,72.91.28.223 AKA 72.91.151.117,

It would appear that he wants some thing removed. I can't seem to find it, but will remove what I do find. Now here is the problem: This fellow has been placing others information up too. It all started with him sussing someone and coming on the wiki to complain about a forum. Now, I don't know how to go about this, nor am I authorized to removed it permanently. Any help/advice you can offer whould be most appriciated. TalkAbout 05:33, 11 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm not really sure what you're asking. I can suggest, though, that you try a dispute resolution process, which will perhaps help clear things up. If you need an article to be deleted, you can look at Articles for Deletion for information. Good luck! Replace the {{helpme}} template if you need additional help. —Keakealani 05:40, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
Keakealani,
No, I don't want the article deleted. He says there is some thing there in the Discussion Page that he wants deleted. On the other hand he has been actively trying to out other wiki participants? So, who do I write to get this resolved or how do I start with mediation for him. He seems to have several IPs.
The article is fine, he just wants to turn it into an advertisement for the organisation rather than a neutral informative article. Thanks TalkAbout 06:05, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
As Keakealani said, please read and try one of the methods listed at Misplaced Pages:Dispute resolution if the problem persists. Cheers, Tangotango 08:26, 11 October 2006 (UTC)
I need help with avyakt7(Riveros11) that has taken ownership of an article and removed an advertisement tag. Now I don't want to revert because he will state that I am the problem. Please note that the Brahma Kumaris article is in arbitration and I have had problems with this editor before on this one article as he is part of the BK IT TEAM. The article currently has a clean up tag due to all his editing and currently he is demanding to know who an editor is before he allows any editing? Can you help! Greetings TalkAbout

Please realize that user.244 has been lying. DO you see that? Please do not try to cover this. Both of you are antagonistic to Brahma Kumaris. Both of you have been abusing it by placing your biased views in it. Currently, you are not qualified to mediate anything in this article, we need an "unbiased" mediator if you want to go that route. I would like to work that article so that it is "unbiased." In other words, I would like to work with you, so neither BKs feel left out nor user .244 and yourself. This article needs to be neutral. I don't know what happened with you and user .244 and to vent your views in a such a strong way, but WIKIPEDIA must not be the place for that.

Sincerely, avyakt7 Ps: If you would like to discuss about this article, feel free to contact me avyakt7atyahoo.com

Signature problems?

TalkAbout, I've noticed that your signature does not seem to be working, where you have to go back and wikify your userid. If you've set this up intentionally, fine. If not, the problem could be that you have "Raw signature" checked on "my preferences" under the "User profile" tab. Unchecking this box should make the software automatically include your userid linked in your signature. –RHolton22:58, 14 October 2006 (UTC)

Suffice it to say this: let it be known to you that there might perchance possibly be other related AFD's out there on a related topic that you may also be interested in commenting on at some point in the future. Perhaps. There, I hope that will sound to any random roving Misplaced Pages Administrator just like a friendly pointer and not like canvassing. Yours, Smeelgova 19:28, 21 October 2006 (UTC).

External links

I have removed some of the links you added, as they pointed to a page that pretty much only contained links right back to Misplaced Pages, and doesn't appear to be a reliable source anyway. Please use wikilinks to point to other articles at Misplaced Pages. Thanks --AbsolutDan 19:45, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

While I understand you are trying to provide information to help people, Misplaced Pages is not here to be an instruction guide or a collection of external links. Information must be verifiable and notable to remain here. If the information isn't already out there in a WP:RS, Misplaced Pages simply cannot have it. --AbsolutDan 21:09, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Recovery from Cults, XBK info: A guide to life after leaving the Brahma Kumaris, 2006

I placed the {{external links}} tag on that article primarily because of the number of links. When an article needs its external links broken down into sub-sections, we've passed over the spam event horizon. If you disagree feel free to contest it at the article's talk page, but I feel the tag should remain until the links are culled quite a bit more. Thanks --AbsolutDan 23:24, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

NPA

I am seeing that I am being implicated, along with the BKWSU IT team, in some kind of conspiracy or unethical behavior ]]. This is a personal attack in the form of repeated accusatory comments so I am issuing you with the first NPA warning.

Please see Misplaced Pages's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you.

I should point out that I am currently the only representative of the BKWSU IT team posting on Misplaced Pages and that means that anything I post is circulated and approved by the team first. Other BK contributers are posting autonomously and have to take responsibility for their own conduct on Misplaced Pages. In communications I have had with other editors off-line I have basically recommended following all of Misplaced Pages's guidelines and policies since, apart from being unethical, bad conduct makes any editor less credible and liable to be banned.

If you would like to clarify anything with me by all means use my talk page or email me via my talk page but please don't just post sensational headlines on an article talk page implying "guilt by association".

Regards Bksimonb 04:32, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Bksimonb,
Dear Bksimonb, it was searchin man via an e-mail that said you three were in direct communication and even provided details of your activities. So, given that I see that there is no personal attacks on my part, as I stated prior I was going to be discreet about this, but since you bring it forward I see no need to be. So, perhaps you need to State in a public way that you do not support sussing people out, tracing IPs, attacking them personally (including starting rumors of others) and that Avyak7Riveros11 andsearchin man are not in direct contact with you or working at your direction. That you do not approve of language that is demeaning, sexually condescending towards females since you profess that you are a woman run organisation. Even though you acknowledge direct contact with them and offering guidance to them on how not to be banned, you have now established a secondary working relationship group. In any effort it is not a good idea to be in contact with others while trying to remain un soiled by their activities while in Official capacity of BKWSU IT team as the PR Voice of BKWSU.
When you came on I had some high hopes of working on a neutral but truthful way. I thought your first posts indicated that the BKWSU was perhaps having some thoughts about the following:
  • Child Abuse
  • Ex-Member attempting suicide
  • Ex-Members committing suicide
  • Member being asked to break all contact with their families
  • Ex-Members having sever psychological problems due to the Tenents/Teachings/Indoctrination
  • Ex-Members not being offered any Exit counseling.....
That is why I was so happy to address you as I truly sensed that this was the case, which it apparently is not. See, my motivation is seeing all the post problems and the havoc it causes in the lives of the Ex-BKs and their families. From a PR point I say you are loosing some points in the way Avyak7Riveros11 treated Green108 as I am sensitive to individuals and on-going issues. So, if you, Riveros (with numerous IPs) and Seachin Man see that I am delicate on how I handle a few....it is because I am aware. Perhaps I am taking on more concern, perhaps some that really should be shouldered by those that told them day after day of Destruction and of jumping off 5 stories to their death if they left. If someone such as my self has taken the time, I pose this to you and the organisation: Why are you not listening to the cries of those that have served you for years/decades, the children abused while in your care and why have you turned a blind eye and continue said practises?
To call some one BROTHER or SISTER is to indicate a bond, a bond that would say that you would carry this individual through times of hardship, to not leave them alone to suffer if it was the system that caused said suffering.
Bksimonb why deny the tenets or teachings. Be truthful, be a light of goodness that does not hide the wrongs, be a soul that is loving, as in loving those in need one find the ultimate truth. Do not abandoned nor thrash these brothers/sisters about for wanting to WARN others of the suffering they have been through or are going through.
Humanity is judged by the way we treat our weakest in society.
So, continue to try and have me banned if that is the only solution you see to hiding the truth.
In closing I must say one thing since Searchin Man has made it public in reference to the individual and that individual’s spouse. To pose even the question would say that you do not know who some of your most loyal people are. Do a little more reading and you will see the truth in bold print.
A lot of what Avyackt7Riveros11 erased had the citation in the bibliography which you have yet to address.PEACE TalkAbout 18:35, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

Dear User:TalkAbout,
I have no personal interest in whatever email exchange you had with User:Searchin_man. I also don't see it as any concern of yours what communication I have with other editors by email. Other that what I have told you it is our own business who and what we discuss amongst ourselves.
Here is a suggestion. If you believe a user has violated Misplaced Pages's policies then use the correct channels to address this. Keep your complaint only to the user concerned. Do not rant and rave on the discussion page of an article. That is for discussing the article only.
Most of your response seems to consist of a rant against the organisation and my not addressing the points you raise. Let me make it clear that I am not here to address that. It is beyond the remit of the IT team of an organisation to answer to sensational allegations. I am here to stop the damage the article is causing the organisation by the disinformation and bias it currently consists of. I intend to do this by learning how Misplaced Pages works and bringing the article up to a standard more appropriate for an encyclopedia. I am confident I will achieve this simply by following Misplaced Pages's policies and guidelines and taking the sound advice from admins such as User:Rholton.
Also, if you really want to rant about the organisation why not find a more appropriate outlet such as a personal blog? Misplaced Pages is just simply not for that purpose.
Finally, as to whether I trying to get you banned, well, that is really in your hands. You always have the option to remain civil and respectful of other editors, their beliefs and their affiliations.
Regards Bksimonb 06:54, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Please see Misplaced Pages's no personal attacks policy. Comment on content, not on the contributor; personal attacks damage the community and deter users. Note that continued personal attacks may lead to blocks for disruption. Please stay cool and keep this in mind while editing. Thank you.
Bksimonb,
First, Sir I feel personally attacked by this: “Do not rant and rave on the discussion page of an article. That is for discussing the article only." I have been civil to you and your members of the Brahma Kumaris organisation. What I see here is that you are trying to work the system to hide your true practices, to suit your PR needs under a shield of "verifiable" sources approved by your members, while leaving others out that are quite legitimate. The truth cannot be forever shielded in secrecy. TalkAbout 21:30, 2 November 2006 (UTC)
Not sure if you are still around. I've been away for a while myself. Anyway, you are right that the last remarks I made were a bit harsh and perhaps uncivil. They may not technically break the NPA policy but are probably not in the spirit of it. I sincerly appologise for any offense caused. I should have used a more appropriate tone to express my views.
I am sorry I can not agree with your views about the BKWSU and my affiliation with it but I hope we can put this behind us and proceed with the same mutual regard that we started out with. Regards Bksimonb 19:10, 6 December 2006 (UTC)

Vegemite

Yes I heard about that, it is a strange case, the actual FDA regulation stipulates that folic acid must be added to bread and cereals, but recently a few customs officials have started to interpret that as it must not be added to anything else, and have gone so far as to search the baggage of anyone who has an Australian accent (presumably they don't have anything better to look for). So far my illicit Vegemite smuggling ring (one jar in return in return for letting visitors stay with me) has kept me in stock ;)

My main criticism of your page are the description of the owners, as the educational details seem resume-like, which is not allowed on wikipedia. If you changed that part it would no longer read like an ad.

On a side note, there is a certain format that business articles should have that I'm afraid I don't know much about. You may want to consider a layout akin to Ford Motor Company which has the info box to mention notable people in the company.

I'm afraid I can't offer very much help other than that, as I just patrol new pages. Thanks! Cmw4117 18:46, 30 December 2006 (UTC)

SimonB of Microsoft

Actually, if you knew me you'd know how ridiculous the above heading is since I'm actually a keen open source advocate and don't use their OS or other software if I can at all help it. In relation to the thread on the BKWSU talk page I think the example of Microsoft is different since, according to the CNN report, they are actually intending to pay a blogger to represent them on Misplaced Pages. I have always been clear about who I am and what my conflict of interest is and this is detailed in my statement to Arbitration . And no one's paying me!

I'm here because the BKWSU article was presenting an aggressive and biased account and obviously we were hearing about it from people. It would be nice if we could have just send an email to Misplaced Pages and ask them to sort it out but I don't think that's how it works here. Look at it from our perspective. What options do we have? Though this is a massive time and energy sink the only option seems to be for someone, namely me, to sign up as an editor and join in the editing process. Fortunately I enjoy it (sometimes) and it is a great opportunity to learn (always) so I take back the "time and energy sink" comment but you can hopefully see what an organisation is potentially lumbered with on account of this wonderful Misplaced Pages thing and some of the editors that frequent it. Now I understand that as an editor with a "conflict of interest" I am "strongly discouraged" from editing the BKWSU article. Well, if I could be assured that a neutral editor would take up the task to be proactive in challenging poorly sourced, biased or aggressive editing of this an other articles I would gladly take a holiday or contribute to other articles I find interesting (having gone to all the trouble of becoming an editor and all). However, what I am observing is that only editors with a vested in interest in a topic like the BKWSU are actually prepared to do this. So I guess it's down to me and other concerned editors then. You may call this "whitewash" if you want but you can be darned sure that if there is any way I can challenge what I see as undue weighting, bias or inadequate references against the BKWSU and inappropriate behaviour by opposing editors towards me or the article then be rest assured that challenge I will :-)

If you feel I am doing something underhand, and, if as you suggest, you have documented this, then by all means raise a request for investigation, or whatever Misplaced Pages procedure you feel is most appropriate to deal with it. In the meantime, is it too much to ask that we keep whatever issues you have with me, or other editors, out of the article discussion pages so that we can concentrate on the article(s)?

Now I'm asking you, in the interest of fairness, if it is possible that we can work together to create a more balanced article that includes an account of criticism and/or controversies. I wouldn't go as far as to say the article is an advert as such since it doesn't really push anything that I can see (except the CNG project that I only just noticed. Yikes!). However I do take your point about the lack of these sections creating an impression that there is no criticism or controversy. Of course it would have to be NPOV, especially with regards to undue weight . Even the BKWSU's own books such as Adi Dev document the early reactions to the organisation, as do books like "Peace an Purity". Right now I am gathering reliable secondary sources, as I see you have too, but I have to admit that actually adding content to an article is proving more of a challenge to me, in terms of my research/writing ability, than I thought it would be. I'd be interested to hear where you are up to with this. Not because I think I "OWN" the article or anything but simply to see if it is possible for us to work together in a more relaxed and less confrontational setting.

Thanks & regards Bksimonb 11:28, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

Bksimonb,
Listen, please understand that what ever future edits I make, are not personal and that I am just doing the research. If I find some thing of notability I will place that in as well as I do not believe in being one sided. Understand that I am being truthful here. Now as to Avyakt7. I find his attacks very unproductive and his "tone" demeaning. I think he has shown this tactic to work in getting others to give up on editing the article with great success I might say.
In addition I would like it if you would stop referring to "gorillas" when addressing me or points about me. If you must know I consider myself bi-racial. So, please take note, refrain from this as I do want to work with you, Appledell, and others in a positive fashion. Keep in mind that ALL people are beautiful and trying to get at them via a racial means is not civil and self degrading of the individual doing it and those they represent!
I understand that you are very competent in programming (glad to see you believe in open source) and considered one of the best on the IT TEAM. So, if you profess that it is not a TEAM effort I will note that once again. In the interim, let us clear the slate and begin a new and hopefully some thing can be worked out or at the very least some level of decorum can be gained. PEACETalkAbout 19:39, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
Hi Talkabout. Sorry not much time to respond in full right now except to say that Guerilla and Gorilla are two entirely different words with different meanings. No racist connotation at all. By "guerilla tactics" I mean sudden, targeted overwhelming attacks such as the hail of edits we see from 244's sockpuppet Some People.
In accordance with Thatcher131's advice I suggest we work with the article as it is now. No doubt we have widely different POV but I am sure we can work it out with understanding. I hope you don't mind if I start making some bold edits soon since there was quite a bit of carnage last night from our POV ;-)

Sir,

I thank you for keeping your comments off my talk page. I have no wish to become involved in whatever nonsense has gone before.

As you were one of the contributors involved in the edit warring and arbitration case, I am not entirely sure what your opinions are worth and suggest that you take your own advice, helping to move the topic forward by adding your own references and citations.

Some people 01:39, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Some People,
That would be fine with me but the article is for all to work on and if you don't want corrections made then add the complete citations not just part and that would solve the problem. In addition I do believe that the committee's resolution is binding on those involved and any that partake currently. See the note above the article. PEACETalkAbout 02:04, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Griot, I wasn't trying to disclose his identity rather pointing out that there was a full article about this in the Chronicle and that he admitted doing this when he is the paid spokesman. I do believe it is against wikipedia policy to have paid editors here on the articles ala microsoft .Frankly I think the Gavin Newsom article should have a critical section that includes his refusal of meeting with the voters and supervisors, the possible loss of the 49ers and his Chief spokesman's activities. So, I will let you be the judge as to if you believe it merits an entry…. Also, keep in mind this was posted there since 6/2006 and there wasn’t any reprimand on the one that posted it. Only this user got the reprimand since I provided a link to an actual news story on the very subject (I did note wikipedia was not mentioned). Possible entry:

License tagging for Image:Alex Tourk.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Alex Tourk.jpg. Misplaced Pages gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Misplaced Pages, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. 02:04, 23 February 2007 (UTC)

Moral support

Hello. While I commend your offering moral support to Smee, I was disappointed to see you "taking sides" as if this is between Smee and I (or between Smee and Lsi john). Smee was blocked for the 6th time for disruptive behavior by a totally disinterested admin. Listen, there are qualities about Smee that I like and admire too and I urge her to build on those qualities. I am going to expand on that theme on my user talk page in an Open Letter to Smee (ps, there is nothing there that is meant to refer to you). Please do not further the contentious behavior by "taking sides". Regarding your specific points: spiritual spacecraft can be linked to spiritual spacecraft, not UFOs. And, why not stub an article for protocol module? I was going to do it for you but there are a few different usages of the term and I am not sure which one you are interested in. Take care. --Justanother 13:16, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Justanother, I appreciate that you took the time to write me for the following reasons. I frankly value you, think you are very bright and productive. As, you may know I don't like inappropriate words thrown about, or naughty suggestive ones. That said, given my background I can honestly say to you, that I have defended ones right to religion in a manner, time given and effort for many years and continue to today even though not in a formal manner. That said, I have always felt and believed that the right to religious practices can only be protected with freedom of information. In fact I was told/informed that this topic of Freedom of Information might interest you but had not approached it as I have not finished doing research on the project. I had informed Smee about a future project and as usual Smee is always willing to help.
  • It grieves me to see the current state of affairs. I can recall that at one point Smee was considering leaving wikipedia and during that time I began to communicate with Smee on his/her talkpage. Now, I see Misplaced Pages as being a collaborative process, hopefully filled with wiki love and good wiki will. Imagine the idea of strangers coming together to work on some thing for the good of others throughout the world, giving of their time, effort and exchanging thoughts in the process, is truly remarkable. I value this venue as books are disappearing from the libraries and electronic media is being pushed forward as a replacement. Now as to the number of blocks you mention, I did see some of the early ones and in my opinion the individuals that brought it on were primarily inciting and causing mischief. Given the amount of work Smee produces, if one were to take assessment of said work the blocks would be a very small entry. That said, Smee has always been very contrite, and polite. I admire that Smee takes the higher road, doesn't attack but is willing to discuss things that most will not.
I am sorry you feel disappointed in me, or see it as "taking sides". I am glad to see that you are extending a hand of friendship to Smee and that you do find Smee of value here in the wikipedia community. That brings hope to my heart in that we can all get along and move on. My tea invite is still open.PEACETalkAbout 16:46, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
  • TalkAbout, I wasn't going to post here, though I, too, saw your posting on Smee's talkpage. Having seen your response now, I would like to go on-record with you for a couple of things.
First, and most important, I would like to state very clearly that I am not happy that Smee is blocked. There is no joyous dancing in the streets going on. I find the entire situation very distasteful, unpleasant and quite sad. It is hurtful both to Misplaced Pages in general and to all the involved editors in particular.
For myself, I was not disappointed that you reached out to Smee. I was disappointed that you implied that the block was somehow unjust and that Smee is a great leader and that Smee had done nothing wrong and then you hummed we shall overcome as if to compare her situation to the persecution of the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the plight of negro slaves.
Your comments served to undermine and minimize the entire reason for the block. The fact is that Smee broke the rules, by using Revert as an editing tool and as a technique for content dispute resolution. This is an ongoing pattern of behavior and it is a problem. It was recognized by an outside admin, with no knowledge of any of the involved parties. And the admin took an action that was reviewed, and supported, by a second uninvolved admin.
You commented that you are glad Smee is reflecting. So am I. It is important that Smee take this opportunity to reflect on his editing practices. Comments that suggest that the block was unjust, or that someone else should have also been blocked, or that there is a noisy investigation will derail that reflection and are counter productive. Smee, and Smee alone, "is responsible" for Smee's decisions, conduct and actions.
Its ironic, actually, that the very trainings which Smee writes so strongly against, teach the concept of Personal Responsibility and Responsible Behavior and accepting the consequences of our choices and actions.
If you read Smee's talkpage (since the block), you will note that he begins each conversation by acknowledging that he was blocked for his conduct. But the more he is encouraged by others, with suggestions of unfairness in the block and overcoming, the more he begins to shift the focus away from himself (personal responsibility), and toward blaming other editors for his predicament (victim). Please be careful not to encourage conversations in this direction. It is his own behavior that he needs to be looking at right now.
Misplaced Pages needs Smee. But Misplaced Pages needs a Smee that can work in concert with other editors. Misplaced Pages needs a Smee that doesn't have to own every article. Misplaced Pages needs a Smee that doesn't use Revert as a standard edit response.
Misplaced Pages needs Smee's research capability, to locate sources. But, Misplaced Pages needs a Smee that finds sources for all sides of the issues, not just the sources which support a single point of view.
Misplaced Pages needs Smee's wkfy knowledge. But Misplaced Pages needs a Smee that can offer suggestions to editors, rather than cleaning up every edit for them.
Smee brings value to Misplaced Pages that nobody else can bring. Because, Smee is a unique individual, with unique views. But Misplaced Pages is a community that contains lots of editors, who must work in harmony and follow the rules. Misplaced Pages, and the articles here, are not something that anyone owns. So, Misplaced Pages needs a Smee who can work cooperatively with other editors, in a community with diverse views.
As my final thought, TalkAbout, I request that you neither suggest, encourage, support, nor allow this to be an "us against them" situation. We must all work together. When a parent spanks (or grounds) a child, it rarely seems fair to the child and it almost always gives pain to the parent. (I'm sure you've heard this hurts me more than it hurts you). And the spanking (or grounding) generally has nothing to do with the parent, and everything to do with the conduct of the child. (And lets not take that analogy too literally, as its the message that is important not the example. ok? thanks).
We each bring our own perspective (thats the us), and then we are supposed to write from a place of NPOV (thats the WE). There is no them, there need not be an against and there is nothing to overcome.
To Smee: I think you are an asset to Misplaced Pages and I look forward to the day we work together in harmony to create high quality great articles that get featured.
Happy Editing. Peace in God. Lsi john 18:37, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Lsi john,
First, I take issue with interjecting ML in the fray. As a person of color I have my communication style and I was communicating with Smee (so, I thought). That chorus goes beyond what you state (please check....as I do believe "slavery" was resolved during the civil war, but civil rights were the issue during ML's time), and is a song of courage/contemplative PEACE. As a young person I was called the "N" word, yet I choose to take the high road, when it is bantered about by others here, as I see it being used to serve another purpose. There is but a few degrees of separation you see, and that is the reason I choose to refer to myself as a person of color. Only in recent years did I realize that I had a very unusual childhood, saw things people only read about and it does trouble me when young people get mixed up about history. I can recall a couple of months back correcting some young speaker on the "Struggle in the South" and later telling an old timer about it. Find out why Bill Clinton is referred to as the "First Black" president.
Secondly, in my real life I often mentor young men, (you and another imply Smee is a she, no problem) and yes, I try to encourage leadership skills/attributes in all young people(Lsi john, you too can be a leader if you choose). Often in life we stumble, we pick ourselves up and continue. I see nothing wrong in offering a hand, or a word of encouragement. I do think that Smee is doing self reflection, which is good and was glad to see that Justanother is extending his hand out to Smee. Now, should I be silent in expressing my opinion here? Is my opinion that valued? Now, this is the second time you answer for Smee?!?
I see one being able to over come adversity in a positive way, seeing that it builds character, fortitude and enables the person to become an asset to society. I never inferred a them vs us mentality. Working together collaboratively is some thing that needs to be fostered. I did say to Smee "onward". Which translates to learn and move on. Don't give up. We all have value, we all have things to give/convey.
  • Many times in my life I have been told to but out. This would not be the first nor the last I suspect.
  • As to spanking the child:Smee is an adult. I have never spanked a child as I don't believe in violence as a means to solving a problem and I don't believe in harsh words as they too can cause damage, even more deeply than say a swat.
So, Lsi john, lets move on from here and try to be civil to one another. I have placed your message to Smee on his/her talkpage.PEACETalkAbout 21:21, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

AMEN:Case closed...TalkAbout 21:24, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Sir, (as an analyst I'll address your points in order)
a) I had no idea you were a person of any color whatsoever. And now that I know, it's still not important. To me, you are a person. Color, gender, race, sexual preference, and most other things are irrelevant. It's our conduct that defines who we are, not our color.
b) I meant absolutely no disrespect to Mr King whatsoever. None. Zero. If you took offense, then I apologize and request that you re-read it. The song you hummed relates to an ugly and shameful period in American History for parties on both sides of that situation. Without getting into a civil rights discussion (please?), the people who sang that song felt oppressed and vowed to overcome the oppression. My usage of the words 'negro slaves' was technically incorrect, and I offer to retract them in favor of 'oppressed negro population' if you prefer. It was the meaning, not my specific choice of words, which was important. For any offense taken, again I apologize. Neither offense, nor disrespect was intended to you, nor Mr King.
c) As a general rule, I try to address Smee as a he. I have been told both, and Smee has specifically refused to publicly clear up the question/confusion. I think it would be polite of him to clarify, but in this case privacy is not something I would deny him.
d) I did request that you not pick at the specifics of my spanking/grounding example. It was the concept I was trying to get across, not that Smee is a child. It was the best example I could think of at the time, and I included 'grounded' as an alternate substitution in the example. I tried to be clear about this, and I'm disappointed to see you miss the point and somehow feel that I was calling Smee a child or that I endorsed spanking. An analogy is not intended to be analyzed in detail. It is used to explain a position, without getting bogged down (and side tracked) in the details of the real situation.
The point was, whether preventative or punitive, user blocks hurt both the user and the community. And, its rare that a user will feel the block is just or fair. Encouraging a user to believe the block is unfair or unjust, is no different than a neighbor telling your child that you spanked (or grounded/punished/diciplined) him unfairly. It undermines your authority and your rules, and it's wrong.
e) I've never been uncivil to you, nor (to my knowledge) you to me. So I will take your remark as rhetorical.
f) Thank you. It was unnecessary to post it on Smee's page, but thank you for doing so. I know that he will eventually read this and, given my prior experience with him, many of the things I have said here may be hard for him to accept at face value. I wanted to include positive feedback for Smee and let him know that I do value his contributions. It's the way he contributes that is the problem.
Peace in God. Yours, Lsi john 23:05, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Lsi john,
Thank you for the analysis and yes I do like politeness as I see it works wonders. Now, just an FYI as you may not know, it is Black, not "negro"! For example:Driving while Black or Brown. As to " Encouraging a user to believe the block is unfair or unjust" is neither here nor there. Smee has taken it like a big girl and is busy dreaming up little info boxes or other articles I imagine. Now, if you want my personal opinion, parity would have served best. Now, consider that I think Justanother is a very bright person and has a notable sense of humour.
I do thank you for the analysis, no hard feelings and yes we all have a way of seeing the world. PEACE and Good Will to you.TalkAbout 00:50, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Updated DYK query On 7 June, 2007, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article 2007 De Anza baseball players rape case, which you created or substantially expanded. Revert was not a mistake

Hi Talkabout. The stuff I reverted was content that was cleaned up by Utcursch as part of the cleanup. It was re-inserted by Green108 and so it since Utcursch's edits were valid and should not have been undone without reaching a consensus in discussion. The material has been reverted several times by various editors now so I appreciate that it may not be immediately clear what the history is. I would be grateful if you could reverse the damage since the last thing I want is to get caught in an edit war (3RR and all that).

Much appreciated Bksimonb 19:01, 19 July 2007 (UTC)

Sockpuppetry

I don't believe you. I'm not involved in editing the article, have no side to take, but I can recognize a sock when it appears an hour after a block is extended. Have a nice day, and please don't post on my talk page again. Thanks. IPSOS (talk) 05:49, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I don't see any block on my page and why did you put a sign on my front page. You sir are in essence calling me a liar. I am not anyone else, I always sign in as myself and do not find your unfounded accusations just and rather biased. I am requesting that you provide the complaint desk for Admins. Thank you for advising me of this. So, then may I remove his tag from my User page? Thank You, you wouldn't believe upsetting this was to me. PEACETalkAbout 08:02, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
Also note that it wasn't me that filed the checkuser you refer to. Check the history of it. I filed another one earlier that did not include you. Regards Bksimonb 12:06, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

If you return to the requests for arbitration page, you will see that a checkuser/arbitrator has indicated that the sock allegation is not correct. Based on this, the matters seems resolved, and it would be in order for you to now withdraw the request for arbitration. As I am an Arbitration Committee Clerk, if you indicate that this is acceptable I will take care of the "paperwork." Thank you, Newyorkbrad 14:51, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

Thank you, and sorry to have troubled you. I do thank you for resolving that I am not a sockpuppet. Sincerely/PEACE TalkAbout 19:51, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

Apologies

Sorry for misidentifying you as a sockpuppet. I guess you simply had the misfortune to choose to reappear on the scene just 1 hour after Green108 had his block extended for evading it. Sometimes these things are just coincidence, it seems. IPSOS (talk) 01:33, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Apology accepted. Please note the manner in which you make your comments to others as you conveyed some authority, which I have learned you do not have. I hold no rancor toward you and bid you a good day. PEACETalkAbout 19:46, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

IPSOS's Special Treatment

I have a question and it is one of equity. Why is IPSOS allowed to post inciting comments on others talkpages (and Users Pages) and when challenged in a perfectly well mannered way he opts out by "don't post on my talk page again". Keep in mind in my case he was claiming I was a sockpuppet and with Admin like authority went and posted this on my User Page . His tone was not too pleasant either. Now I see he has done this to another member and gone and cried wolf here, but please note that he failed to mention he posted this on this User's Page just as he did with me.

  • I am bothering to write to you for two reasons. First, this type of action by IPSOS is contrary to a positive working experience here and is lacking in the wikispirit. Second, is that when he does this (posting on other User's Page) he is stepping beyond his authority and intimidating other Users which is plain wrong. Lastly, in my case I found his actions to be non-productive and using up resources that could be spent on "real" issues rather than his assumptions. So, in the act of parity perhaps you might find it fitting to tell him to stop placing "assumptions" that discredit others without validity. Thank you for your time with regards to these issues. PEACETalkAbout 19:04, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

Please note

1) Wikilinks are never put in headings 2) External links should be titled with the actual title from the site being linked. 3) Punctuation goes before ref tags, with no space or line break.

Observing these rules might make you edits slightly less annoying to other editors. Edit warring to put these blatant mistakes back is idiotic. IPSOS (talk) 01:13, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Please also note

Misplaced Pages does not allow linking to mailing lists, bulletin boards, forums, etc. or their archives. We should also not link to free-hosted sites, such as on infogami.com. Sorry. IPSOS (talk) 01:23, 27 August 2007 (UTC)

Now with 200% more Jewishness!
Yes, folks, we're moving on up. This newsletter is now the newsletter for both WikiProject Judaism, WikiProject Jewish History, and WikiProject Kabbalah. In the future, I may split them, but for now I think we'll be just fine with one. As always, any questions or comments should be directed to me, L'Aquatique.

A Special Dispatch
Just a note, not aimed at anyone in particular. By order of the administrative cabal, it is officially not cool (and possibly dickish) to call someone an anti-semite when they aren't being anti-semitic. Anti-semitic is a very charged word, and it's important only to use it when you're absolutely sure it applies, lest it become the subject of a Godwin-esque law. Remember Hanlon's Razor: never attribute to malice that which can be adequately explained by stupidity.
In the News

  • A new class on the importance scale has been added- C Class- which covers articles better than start but not quite to B Class yet. It is up to the WikiProjects to decide whether to adopt them or not. Currently, there has been little discussion within our Projects, so if you feel strongly either way be sure to note so at your Project.
  • There is a proposal to reword the section on NPOV regarding religious articles. Please see Wikipedia_talk:NPOV#Religion section - Disputes between historians or scientists and religious_views to weigh in.
  • Thanks largely to the efforts of Xyz7890, a new navbox has come into being featuring Halakha topics. See: Template talk:Halakha to join in the conversation about how it can best be improved.

To Do

  • The Simple English Misplaced Pages is beginning a project of creating and improving articles related to religion, including Judaism. At the present time, volunteers are needed to propose our most important subjects for articles to be created. The official working list is here and a more extended list is here. If you are unsure of proper topics, you might try checking our lists of top importance level articles: Judaism and Jewish History. (WikiProject Kabbalah currently doesn't have such a list)
  • WikiProject Christianity is considering running a monthly drive wherein two or three top importance articles from English Misplaced Pages are simplified and moved over to S.E. They have extended an offer to work with us in creating a similar project for Judaism related articles. For questions or volunteer opportunities, please contact User:John Carter.
  • WikiProject Kabbalah is in dire need of an article rating system for quality and importance. If you are familiar with that system and have some time on your hands, please create one. It could also use some infoboxes...

"Censorship" of names of G-d
There is an interesting discussion currently taking place regarding whether or not it is acceptable to censor (i.e. G-d, HaShem->YodHey) names of G-d in articles to protect Jews who may be reading or editing the article. You can weigh in here: Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Judaism#Yahweh.

  • There is a collaboration drive to get Holocaust in Lithuania to good article status. For information about how you can help, see the talk page or contact User:Piotrus.
  • WikiProject Kabbalah's only Featured and Good articles have been removed from the WikiProject, on the grounds that neither article (Diane Keaton and David Beckham, respectively) actually mention the subject's affiliation with Kabbalah. If you have sourced information linking either of these people to Kabbalah, please add it so the articles can be returned to the WikiProject.
  • After a rather heated discussion, there are now two barnstars for use by the Jewish WikiProjects, {{The Jewish Barnstar}} and {{The New Jewish Barnstar}}, and you can choose which one you would like to use.. Remember: barnstars are for rewarding users who are doing good work on the project or on Judaism, Jewish History, or Kabbalah articles, and anyone can give anyone else a barnstar. If you see a user who you thinks deserves a thank you, give them a barnstar!

To Do/Help Requests

  • If you have some spare time on your hands, we could use an article about a Kabbalah scholar named Moshe Idel. According to HG there are quite a few sources easily available, you can contact him if you have questions. Be sure to nominate it for DYK if the finished article is eligible.
  • The folks at Shimon Peres need some assistance from someone familiar with both the Hebrew calendar and language to help them figure out the subject's birthday. If you can help, please see Talk:Shimon_Peres#Birthday.

License tagging for Image:BPP_REUNION_2006.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:BPP_REUNION_2006.JPG. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Misplaced Pages uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Misplaced Pages.

File permission problem with File:BBP Archives 2006.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:BBP Archives 2006.jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Misplaced Pages:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Misplaced Pages:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read the Misplaced Pages's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Kelly 10:46, 28 February 2013 (UTC)

You're invited to the first-ever Misplaced Pages Iconathon!

Help build the visual language of Misplaced Pages at the first ever Wikimedia Foundation/Noun Project Iconathon

The Wikimedia Foundation is partnering up with the Noun Project to run the first-ever Misplaced Pages Iconathon on April 6th at WMF headquarters, and you're invited!

What is an Iconathon: An iconathon is a co-design process where Wikimedia staff, the user community, and a few graphic designers collaboratively discuss what symbols could best represent a concept for an icon – for example, what's the best icon for New Editor, Revert or Oversight? Sketches will be converted into high fidelity icons by Noun Project graphic designers, and will be released under a free license for use by anyone on the Internet. Help build the 💕 icon set that anyone in the world can share and reuse!

Logistics: The event runs from 10:30 am to 4:30 pm on April 6th at the Wikimedia Foundation office in San Francisco. Follow the signs at the door! We'll have plenty of paper and pens/pencils for sketching.

Disambiguation link notification for June 25

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Misplaced Pages appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Grupos Beta, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages Chihuahua and Migrant (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Do you have a source that suggests "Play " is apart of the title or does it simply indicate what it is? In such a case it would only be needed if there were two articles by the same name. Mkdw

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Misplaced Pages arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. We make sure to allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. Free Wi-Fi is available so bring your editing devices. We will have beverages and light snacks. We will also have:

  • A brief report on Pride edit-a-thon recently held at the San Francisco Publice Library, coordinated by Merrilee:
What topics might we cover in a follow up?
Find out more about resources your public library provides to help with editing (hint, it's more than just books!)
Special announcement (secret for now but come and find out more!)
  • Join in on an in person Wikidojo!
Are you curious how your peers approach writing a Misplaced Pages article? This exercise, pioneered by Wikipedians Nikola Kalchev and Vassia Atanassova in 2015 and conducted in many places around the world, will help us all - from first-time wiki users to veteran Wikipedians - share ideas, while building an article together. If you have ideas (relating to Bay Area history, ideally) about a new article we could build (stubs and short existing articles are fine), please submit them ahead of time to coordinator Pete Forsyth. (User talk page or email is fine.)
Announcements and impromptu topics are welcome, too!

Please note: You must register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict.

We hope you can join us today, Wednesday, from 6 p.m. on, at our July Bay Area WikiSalon. This month only, we are going to be at Noisebridge, a hackerspace/makerspace 1.5 blocks from the 16th & Mission BART station (see the link for directions). Some of us will be working on the Misplaced Pages article on basic income. All info here. Come and hang out, have some light snacks. Wi-Fi is available, so please bring your editing device if you plan to edit.

Also, Pete just published a writeup of the Wikidojo exercise we did last month. Your comments welcome, if he missed anything! http://wikistrategies.net/ghost-town-royals-wikidojo

A Misplaced Pages panel discussion about journalism

Hi folks,

We would like to invite you to this month's Bay Area WikiSalon. The last Wednesday evening of every month, wiki enthusiasts gather to collaborate, mingle, and learn about new projects and ideas.

We make sure to allow time for informal conversation and working on articles. Newcomers and experienced wiki users are encouraged to attend. Free Wi-Fi is available so bring your editing devices. We will have beverages and light snacks. We will also have a brief presentation for your education and possible enjoyment:

  • Former EFF intern Marta Belcher will discuss crowdsourcing her Stanford Law School graduation speech using a wiki. The "WikiSpeech" was the subject of prominent national media attention in 2015, and more than half of her classmates contributed to writing and editing the commencement address via a wiki.

Please note: You should register here, and bring a photo ID that matches your registration name. The building policy is strict on the I.D. part. This also helps us figure out how much food and drink to bring in! Feel free to stop by even if only to say a quick hello, but you might have to give us a last minute call if you forget to RSVP. Also, don't be shy about hitting us up if you have thoughts on speakers or wiki-related activities.

Co-organizer Stephen LaPorte has suggested doing an upload-a-thon for Wiki Loves Monuments. Niki, the California coordinator for WLM will be in attendance. WLM is an annual event and the official dealine is Friday the 30th for submissions to count towards awards.

Or, you can grab a couch, a booth, or a stool and do your own thing.

Invitation to Local Wikimania Event in San Francisco this Friday

Hi!

Wikimania is happening and hopefully you're enjoying the sessions. While it's fairly last minute, you're warmly invited to participate in the local Wikimania-themed meetup in the Wikimedia Foundation office this Friday (tomorrow!). You will have to register in advance, but we would love to see more people from the WikiSalon community participate! For more information and registration, please check out meta:Wikimania 2022/San Francisco Meetup.

The event will involve hacking, teaching, learning, and celebrating and we'll have snacks. We will have the opportunity to watch live sessions at Wikimania together in the afternoon. The rest of the day we'll have opportunity to participate in the hackathon, and we may have some on-demand workshops/learning sessions.

In case we run out of space, it's first-come-first-serve so let us know soon! Hope to see you there.
