Revision as of 19:10, 13 April 2007 by Quiddity (talk | contribs) ({{disambig-cleanup}})(diff) ← Previous revision | Latest revision (diff) | Newer revision → (diff)The phrase herding cats comes from the common saying that something involving coordination of many different groups or people is as difficult as herding cats. One of the commonly encountered uses of the term is the phrase "Managing programmers is like herding cats" or "Managing engineers is like herding cats" referring to the individualism common in the stereotypical examples of programmers and domesticated cats. A similar phrase, allegedly of Irish origins, is "Minding mice at a crossroads".
Herding cats may also refer to:
- Herding Cats, A Life in Politics, a book written by Senator Trent Lott
- Herding Cats, Multiparty Mediation in a Complex World, a study of multiparty mediation edited by Chester Crocker, Fen Hampson and Pamela Aall
- Herding Cats: A Primer for Programmers Who Lead Programmers by J. Hank Rainwater
- Herding Cats (album) (1999), the second album by the band Gaelic Storm.
- The comparison with computer systems management was used by Electronic Data Systems (EDS) in a 2000 Super Bowl commercial produced by Fallon McElligott.
