The Legend of Zelda is the tentative title for the next video game in Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda series. Because of the year of release, fans and gaming sites alike have dubbed it "Zelda 2005".

The game will feature graphics even more realistic than those found in Ocarina of Time instead of the cartoon look of The Wind Waker and Four Swords Adventures, although it will still makes use of the cel-shading lighting effect from The Wind Waker, and in fact runs on a heavily modified The Wind Waker engine. In a further departure from The Wind Waker, Link is once more in his "adult" form, similar to the second half of Ocarina of Time. Link will also ride and fight on horseback. The release date is expected to be during E4 2005.

Further rumors about about the game have spread throughout the internet. Digitally altered images were released depicting realistic looking screenshots of the title screen, complete with made up names for the subtitle. Further speculations range far and wide, and have little basis.

As of April 2005 no official title has been announced. The game was originally shown at 2004 in the form of a short trailer, and a new trailer was later shown at the 2005 Game Developers Conference. The graphical style for the game, while still fantasy-oriented, is of a more realistic tone than the previous game, The Wind Waker. It is also believed that the game takes on a much darker tone than its predecessor, judging from the trailers. Nintendo is unclear on where the game might chronologically fall into, or whether Ganondorf or the Master Sword would be featured in the game. Interviews have touched upon it following directly on from The Wind Waker, but how connected it is story-wise has yet to be determined.

No release date has been announced, but it is expected launch during the holiday season of 2005.
