This article may meet Misplaced Pages's criteria for speedy deletion for the following reasons:
  • because in its current form it serves only to promote or publicise an entity, person, product, or idea, and would require a fundamental rewrite in order to become encyclopedic. However, the mere fact that a company, organization, or product is a page's subject does not, on its own, qualify that page for deletion under this criterion. This criterion also does not apply where substantial encyclopedic content would remain after removing the promotional material as deletion is not cleanup; in this case please remove the promotional material yourself, or add the {{advert}} tag to alert others to do so. See CSD G11.
  • as an article about a real person, individual animal, organization (band, club, company, etc.), web content or organized event that does not credibly indicate the importance or significance of the subject. See CSD A7.
The page may be deleted under any criterion that is valid. Multiple+reasons%3A+speedy+deletion+criteria+%5B%5BWP%3AG11%7CG11%5D%5D%2C+%5B%5BWP%3AA7%7CA7%5D%5DNA

Stefano Venier (born April 3, 1963, in Udine, Italy) is an Italian business executive. Since 2022, he has served as CEO of Snam, one of Europe’s major energy operators active in the transportation, storage, and regasification of natural gas. Previously, from 2014 to 2022, he held the position of CEO of the Hera Group.

Biography

Education

Stefano Venier earned a degree in Mathematical and Physical Sciences, specializing in IT, from the University of Udine. He later completed a Master in Energy and Environmental Economics at the Scuola Enrico Mattei.

Career

Stefano Venier began his professional career in May 1987 at Zanussi, a Friuli-based company within the Electrolux Group, where he worked in industrial automation.

In 1989, he joined EniChem, the petrochemical subsidiary of the Eni Group, where he held various roles, including Strategic Planning Assistant, Head of Market Analysis, and later, Head of Strategic Projects.

In 1996, he joined the management consultancy company A.T. Kearney, focusing on the energy, utilities, and telecommunications sectors. In 2002, he was appointed Vice President of Energy & Utilities.

In 2004, Stefano Venier joined the Hera Group, a multi-utility company active primarily in Emilia-Romagna, Marche, Veneto, and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. Initially serving as Director of Business Development and Strategic Planning, in 2008 he took on the role of General Manager of Development and Market. Finally, in April 2014, he became CEO, a position he held until spring 2022. During his tenure, Hera Group focused on sustainability and the circular economy, joining the Ellen MacArthur Foundation in 2017 and the Circular Economy Alliance in 2020.

In March 2022, he was appointed CEO of Snam, a role he currently holds. From the start of his tenure, which coincided with the escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian War following Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he emphasized energy security on a national and international scale, advancing infrastructure projects to contribute to the energy transition towards a decarbonized economy.

Under his leadership, Snam acquired two floating storage and regassification units (FSRU), namely “Golar Tundra” (renamed Italis LNG in 2024) and “BW Singapore”, which are floating vessels for the storage and regasification of natural gas, each with a storage capacity of 170,000 cubic meters and a regasification capacity of 5 billion cubic meters per year. In 2024, the construction of the Adriatic Line started, representing Italy’s largest gas transportation infrastructure project in the past decade. The project is aimed at increasing the south-to-north transmission capacity by 10 billion cubic meters annually.

He has also strengthened Snam’s commitment to carbon neutrality with a holistic approach across the value chain, including suppliers. The company has expanded its sustainability strategy, incorporating topics related to innovation, people, and local communities. Snam became the first global operator in the transportation sector to join the Science Based Target for Nature (SBTN) Corporate Engagement program, with the objective of creating a positive impact on biodiversity across all sites by 2027.

Stefano Venier also promoted a dual-track innovation approach. On one hand, he developed the SnamTEC initiative, a program focused on innovation in operations. On the other, he has encouraged open innovation, collaborating with startups, universities, and research centers.

Since 2018, Stefano Venier has served on the BoD of the MIB Trieste School of Management, and since 2022, he has been a Non-Executive Director at Industrie De Nora, a company partially owned by Snam.

In November 2022, he joined the BoD of Snam ETS Foundation, Snam’s corporate foundation, where he participates in corporate volunteering initiatives, such as on World Food Day.
