Philip Zecher (born November 22, 1967) is an American investment professional and nuclear physicist. He serves as the Chief Investment Officer (CIO) at Michigan State University (MSU), overseeing the institution's $4.2 billion endowment.

Education

Zecher earned a PhD in nuclear physics from Michigan State University in 1996.

Career

Zecher began his career at Deloitte Consulting in New York, focusing on technology solutions for financial risk measurement. In 1999, he co-founded Investor Analytics, a firm specializing in risk advisory services for hedge funds and institutional investors.

Later, Zecher joined EQA Partners, a hedge fund based in Stamford, Connecticut, as a partner and Chief Risk Officer.

In 2016, Zecher was appointed as the first Chief Investment Officer at Michigan State University, tasked with establishing the university's investment office and managing its endowment. Under his leadership, the endowment has been recognized as one of the top-performing university endowments.

In 2024, Connecticut Governor Ned Lamont appointed Zecher as Chair of the Connecticut Investment Advisory Council, advising the state treasurer on investment policies.

Recognition

In 2020, Zecher was named one of the top 30 endowment CIOs by Trusted Insight magazine.
