Ahmed Haitham is a former Member of Parliament (MP) representing the South Machangolhi constituency in People's Majlis of the Maldives. He was elected in 2019, serving until 2023 when he resigned from the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) due to internal party disputes. Haitham was known for his active role in social justice, child welfare, and health-related issues during his tenure. One of his most notable actions was summoning the Minister of Health to Parliament regarding corruption related to ventilator procurement during the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to significant media attention and the minister’s eventual removal from office.

During his time in Parliament, Haitham was a member of several key committees, including those related to national security, health, and foreign relations. He also submitted motions and petitions advocating for the welfare of vulnerable groups, such as tourism industry workers during the pandemic and the enhancement of drug rehabilitation facilities in the country.

In September 2023, amidst political pressures and threats to his safety, Haitham left the ruling MDP and became a member of the opposition. Despite facing multiple threats and challenges, including harassment directed at his family, Haitham continued to speak out on issues of national importance. His tenure as an MP was marked by his strong commitment to addressing national issues and ensuring justice for the people of the Maldives.
