Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is an upcoming action-adventure video game developed by Naughty Dog and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment. Set thousands of years in the future, it follows bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun, who is stranded on a remote planet. Development began in 2020 after the release of Naughty Dog's previous game, The Last of Us Part II, and is led by creative director and writer Neil Druckmann and game directors Matthew Gallant and Kurt Margenau. The game stars Tati Gabrielle as Jordan, and its original score was composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

Setting and characters

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is a science fiction game, set thousands of years in the future in an alternate universe in which advanced space travel existed by 1986. The story is centred on a fictional religion, and follows bounty hunter Jordan A. Mun (portrayed by Tati Gabrielle). In searching for a criminal syndicate called the Five Aces, Jordan becomes stranded on the remote planet Sempiria. For over 600 years, the planet has been cut off from outside contact and no one has been able to leave its orbit. In seeking to escape, Jordan encounters hostile, blade-wielding robots, against whom she fights with her own weapons. The first trailer depicts Jordan listening to 1980s music, watching anime, and flying a Porsche-branded rocket ship. Kumail Nanjiani portrays Colin Graves, a member of the Five Aces, and Troy Baker and Tony Dalton are set to play characters.

Development

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is in development by Naughty Dog for the PlayStation 5. Development began in 2020, after the release of The Last of Us Part II ; more than 250 Naughty Dog employees worked on the game. Neil Druckmann leads development as creative director and writer, alongside co-game director Matthew Gallant and Kurt Margenau. The original score is composed by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.

Druckmann revealed he was working on a new game at Summer Game Fest in June 2022, and later said he was assembling a writers' room to be "structured more like a TV show" than any of Naughty Dog's previous projects. Sony Interactive Entertainment trademarked the title in February 2024, and Naughty Dog revealed the game at the Game Awards on December 12, 2024, alongside its first trailer, featuring the song "It's a Sin" by the Pet Shop Boys. The trailer also featured numerous instances of product placement. The game is set to start a new franchise for Naughty Dog.

It is the first original story created by Naughty Dog in almost fifteen years, since The Last of Us (2013). According to Druckmann, the story explores "what happens when you put your faith in different institutions". It takes inspiration from anime like Akira (1988) and Cowboy Bebop (1998). Druckmann considered Tati Gabrielle a standout during the casting process, comparing her audition to Ashley Johnson's for The Last of Us's Ellie. Gabrielle also starred in the film Uncharted (2022) and the second season of The Last of Us (2025), both based on Naughty Dog franchises.
