Wekîl Mistefayêv (Kurdish: وەکیل مستەفایێڤ, romanized: Wekîl Mistefayêv; 1938 Uzbekistan –19 April 2019 Erbil, Kurdistan Region) was a Kurdish political leader and activist known for his role in the Kurdish Republic of Lachin, an attempt to re-establish short-lived Red Kurdistan, a Soviet-administered Kurdish region dissolved in 1929. Mistafayêv sought to defend Kurdish cultural and political rights inside and outside the Soviet Union.
Mistefayêv emphasized the preservation of Kurdish identity and worked towards unity among Kurds. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union, he moved to the Kurdistan Region, where he continued his advocacy until his death in 2024. He was buried in Erbil, with political and cultural figures attending his funeral.
