Question from James Feely6 (14:26, 21 November 2024)
Hello Eddie,
How are you ?:)
I was wondering if you could advise me on something please. I am looking to create my own Misplaced Pages page but at what stage will wikipedia recognise my account as a page that can publish my own written material? and what do I need to do to get there? Ideally I can get it done in the next month.
Thanks, James --James Feely6 (talk) 14:26, 21 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @James Feely6, I've the same response as below:
- Do you meet our notability criteria for people? Not just anyone can have an article, they have to have gotten covered by independent and reliable sources (such as newspapers, books, or journals). It's also generally not recommended to write your own article see here for more on why. Eddie891 Work 16:39, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Eddie,
- I am not writing an article about myself, sorry for the confusion. Instead, I will be writing an article about a company which does have published media material and articles written about them. Typically what is the process like for this situation? I have been practising editing on other articles to become auto-confirmed. How long will it take for my article to become accepted once I publish it, currently I am making a draft in my sandbox.
- I appreciate any insight you've got James Feely6 (talk) 17:03, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @James Feely6, thanks for the clarification. It's hard to say, if the topic is clearly notable, I would say that it should be reviewed within a few weeks. Eddie891 Work 14:39, 5 December 2024 (UTC)

Question from SukuDan (15:59, 23 November 2024)
Hi, I have created a new page called Data Product, it is a word gaining currency in modern data management and requires a defenition,
I have used social to crowd review the defenition and have also done an edit to refine it and would now like to know what the next step is.
Please advice.
Thanks and regards,
Sukujar --SukuDan (talk) 15:59, 23 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi @SukuDan, probably the first thing you should do is make sure the term meets our notability guidelines. Has it gotten covered in the news? What about academic journals or books? Any other reliable sources could count, too. Eddie891 Work 16:37, 26 November 2024 (UTC)
- Hi Eddie,
- Many thanks for reaching out, I have read the notability guidelines, and look for objective evidences that are being unearthed. For instance DAMA (see Dama.org) is a global community based organisation which owns DM BoK (Data Management Book of KNowledge). Dama has chapters globally, I have connected with the Dutch Chapter and have requested help in ensuring that we have a good defenition that is acceptable and valuable. They are enthusiastic.
- We are discovering more published material on the subject and are planning to formally review the defenition against what is available and becoming available.
- I have a question to ask you, Linked in is a social media (LinkedIn) In todays age many professionals and others involved with data and analytics are involved, What does Wikepedia think of the inputs that are received for example could I conduct a survey and ask people if it will be valuable to have a defenition added to Misplaced Pages and if so to review and provide suggestions.
- This may be a strange request, but today we have the reach of many people who are practinoers in this area and to have a common defenition would be valueable, look forward to hearing your thoughts on this matter.
- Warm Regards,
- Sukumar SukuDan (talk) 08:20, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- @SukuDan, The topic still needs to have received coverage in independent, reliable sources. For instance, if a newspaper wrote the report that you are talking about (based on LinkedIn), it would be helpful, but we cannot write an article based on original research. Eddie891 Work 14:37, 5 December 2024 (UTC)
- I understand and am happy to include the following in the refrences. what do you think? Is this good to go?
- 1. “Data Mesh: Delivering Data-Driven Value at Scale” by Zhamak Dehghani
- This seminal book introduces the concept of data mesh, emphasizing the treatment of data as a product. Dehghani outlines how decentralized data ownership and product thinking can enhance data management and analytics within organizations.
- 2. “Data Mesh Principles and Logical Architecture” by Zhamak Dehghani
- In this article, Dehghani elaborates on the principles of data mesh, detailing how data products serve as the architectural quantum in a decentralized data architecture.
- 3. “Revolutionizing Insights: A Deep Dive into Data Product Architecture” by Scribble Data
- This article explores the components and design considerations of data products, providing insights into their role within modern data architectures.
- 4. “Defining Data Products & Their Role in Data Mesh Architecture” by data.world
- This piece discusses the significance of data products in the context of data mesh, highlighting their importance in scalable data governance.
- 5. “What Is Data as a Product (DaaP)?” by IBM
- IBM’s article delves into the concept of treating data as a product, aligning with the principles of data mesh and emphasizing the need for self-service tools and stakeholder alignment. SukuDan (talk) 11:25, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- I guess I would want to see sourcing describing the concept written by people who are not directly involved with it (all of those sources seem to be people or companies that sell data as a product, and imo can't really be considered independent). Are there any journal articles or news articles? Eddie891 Work 22:17, 11 December 2024 (UTC)
- HI Eddie,
- I am glad to say that I found a paper which I wonder will fit your observation of people who are not directly involved with Data Product. the paper is to be found at https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S1877050921022365?via%3Dihub
- An interesting aspect is that they also mention in their paper the paucity of reference material, i quote here from the paper
- "2. Background Knowledge To clarify the literature review process, this section starts by giving an overview of the steps and criteria that were followed. Due to the novelty of the Data Mesh topic, currently, there are no scientific contributions specifically related to the topic. Therefore, other reliable sources of contributions were analysed. For the remaining concepts (e.g.: Data Warehouse), priority was given to papers published from 2015 onwards - the exception was papers with a relevant number of citations. Some keywords used in reference databases such as "Scopus", "Research Gate" and "Mendeley", were "Data Lake", “Data Mesh”, “Domain Driven Approach”, among others. YouTube videos and blogs were used to collect information about the Data Mesh concept. The most relevant information was selected, analysed and compose the background knowledge discussed in this section."
- You may however feel that this article talks about Data Mesh, and not about Data Product the concept of Data Product is defined as an integral part of the Data Mesh. There are 14 mentions of Data Product in the paper here is an example
- "A Mesh Node consists of a data product, which includes three main components: code, data and metadata, and infrastructure"
- I hope that this helps, It is also key to this issue that Data mesh is a defenition that exists in Wikepedia, It also articulates what a Data Product is, I have changed the refrences section to cite all these, I look forward to your continued help in improving this entry to make it good enough to pass the high standards that are being sent for this important source of human language. SukuDan (talk) 09:12, 17 December 2024 (UTC)
- That's definitely not a bad source. Are there more like it? Eddie891 Work 16:19, 17 December 2024 (UTC)

Scripts++ Newsletter – Issue 26
Hello everyone, and welcome to the 26th issue of the Misplaced Pages Scripts++ Newsletter, covering all our favorite new and updated user scripts since 1 August 2024. At press time, over 94% of the world has legally fallen prey to the merry celebrations of "Christmas", and so shall you soon. It's been a quiet 4 months, and we hope to see you with way more new scripts next year. Happy holidays! Aaron Liu (talk) 05:06, 25 December 2024 (UTC)
Got anything good? Tell us about your new, improved, old, or messed-up script here!
Featured script
- Very useful for changelist patrollers, DiffUndo, by Nardog, is this edition's featured script. Taking inspiration from WP:AutoWikiBrowser's double-click-to-undo feature, it adds an undo button to every line of every diff from "show changes", optimizing partial reverts with your favorite magic spell and nearly fulfilling m:Community Wishlist/Wishes/Partial revert undo.
Miscellaneous
- Doğu/Adiutor, a recent WP:Twinkle/WP:RedWarn-like userscript that follows modern WMF UI design, is now an extension. However, its sole maintainer has left the project, which still awaits WMF mw:code stewardship (among some audits) to be installed on your favorite WMF wikis.
- DannyS712, our former chief editor, has ascended to MediaWiki and the
greenerpurpley pastures of PHP with commits creating Special:NamespaceInfo and the__EXPECTUNUSEDTEMPLATE__
magic word to exclude a template from Special:UnusedTemplates! I wonder if Misplaced Pages has a templaters' newsletter...
Improve a script
- Many of our favorite scripts such as Fred Gandt/userResourceManager, Guarapiranga/search-shortcuts, and Bradv/Superlinks haven't been updated for Vector 2022. You could be the one to change that!
- Elominius/media timer and PrimeHunter/Search sort work, yet have alien user interface design. Someone could improve them...
- BilledMammal/Move+ needs updating to order list of pages handle lists of pages to move correctly regardless of the discussion's page, so that we may avoid repeating fiasco history.
Requested scripts
We need scripts that...
- allow you to edit {{sfn}} references graphically a la Ingenuity/ReferenceEditor
- copy specific named references from other pages to help with splitting and whatnot
- make adding icons/links to the top toolbar (or other portlets) much easier
- graphically generate a {{source assess table}}
- award a Four Award
- ...and many more, all available at Misplaced Pages:User scripts/Requests. Thanks to the editors at US/R—including Nardog, User:Novem Linguae, User:Jeeputer, and many more!—for their work in processing userscript requests this past year.
Updated scripts
- Andrybak/Unsigned helper forks Anomie/unsignedhelper to add support for binary search, automatic edit summaries after generating the {{unsigned}} template, support for {{undated}}, and support for generating while syntax highlighting is on.
- Pour one out: DreamRimmer/User not around forks Andrybak/Not around to allow configuration precise to a number of days (from the original precision of years).
- Red-tailed hawk/cv revdel forks Enterprisey/cv-revdel to automatically add CopyPatrol reports.
- Polygnotus/Move+ updates BilledMammal's classic Move+ to add automattic watchlisting of all pages—except the target page(s)—changed while processing a move.
Newly maintained scripts
- Administrators only! Novem Linguae/UnblockReview forks the now-broken Enterprisey/unblock-review to review unblock requests with a graphical interface.
New scripts
- 1AmNobody24: Find Link provides a shortcut to its namesake tool, Edward/Find link, which helps de-WP:ORPHAN articles.
- Andrybak: Contribs ranger (pictured) generates links to a limited range of user contributions, log items, or page history. You see, it's not just contribs!
- CanonNi/VoteVisualizer is a rewrite of Pythoncoder/voteSymbols that makes everything saner to configure.
- When viewing Category:Articles missing coordinates with coordinates on Wikidata, Jeeputer/coordInserter adds links to automatically insert coordinates into the article selected.
- To satiate archaeology and curiosity (the same thing, perhaps?), JJPMaster/AfC time logger logs the time it takes for a user to review each submission to Misplaced Pages:Articles for creation.
- Natdog/InsertAnyChar adds a searchable list of all Unicode characters to the 2010 source editor.
