Activism

Leahy campaigned against the anti-abortion referendum in 1983, and for changes in legislation for divorce and contraception. He is active in the Cork branch of the Ireland Palestine Solidarity Campaign.

Personal life

Leahy is gay. He moved to London in the early 1960s, before returning to Cork in the late 1970s. In 1980, Leahy, along with his partner, Laurie Steele, were interview for RTÉ, at a time when homosexuality was illegal.

Quay Co-op

Leahy is a founding member of the Quay Co-op in Cork city, a hub for social change and activists since the 1980s.
