Richard "Dick" Capri (1931 – December 26, 2024) was an American actor and comedian.

Career

He began performing stand-up in the 1960s, appearing on such programs as The Merv Griffin Show and The Ed Sullivan Show. He worked with Engelbert Humperdinck, Frank Sinatra, Liza Minnelli, and Tom Jones, and performed for presidents Gerald Ford and George H. W. Bush.

He appeared on Merv Griffin eleven times from 1965 to 1970, and two appearances on The Mike Douglas Show (1965 and 1977). Capri made his Broadway debut in 1991. He starred in the show "Catskills On Broadway" which ran for 14 months. He also took part in films such as "They Still Call Me Bruce" (1987), "Bittersweet Place" (2005) and "One Angry Man" (2010). He appeared on an episode of The Jerry Lewis MDA Labor Day Telethon in 1993.

Personal life and death

Capri was born Richard Crupi in Reading, Pennsylvania in 1931. His son, Jeff, is also an actor and comedian. Capri died in his sleep of a bleeding enlarged aorta in Florida on December 26, 2024, at the age of 93. The aorta was deemed inoperable due to his age. His son Jeff said his last day was spent wit family and friends on Christmas day, and he enjoyed a meal at one of his favourite restaurants.
