Early life
Born c. 1173, Gilbert was the son of Richard de Clare, 2nd Earl of Pembroke, and Aoife MacMurrough.
Earl of Pembroke and Death
In 1176, Gilbert inherited the Earl of Pembroke from his father, making him the 3rd Earl of Pembroke.
Gilbert died in 1185/1189 and passed the title to his sister, Isabel de Clare, making her suo jure 4th Countess of Pembroke.
