Justice Marsur Narayan Moorthy was an Indian lawyer and judge on the Madras High Court from 1981 until his death in 1983.
Life
Moorthy attended Dr. Ambedkar Government Law College, Chennai earning a B.A. and B.L. degrees.and enrolled as an advocate at Madras High Court on July 31, 1950. He worked as a junior under his Uncle noted Indian lawyer V. L. Ethiraj. was married to Dr. Kausalya Moorthy, an obstetrician who practiced in Royapettah. The couple had two sons and two daughters. His elder daughter Priyamvada is a Psychiatrist in the United States. His younger daughter Premalatha was head of the Ramanujan Institute for Advanced Mathematics at the University of Madras in Chennai.Both his sons have passed away as of 2024.
Justice Moorthy worked for Ethiraj until Ethiraj's death in 1960.He was offered judgeships in 1977 and 1978 but declined both times. He was appointed as an additional judge to the High Court on April 22, 1981 for a period of two years.He passed away in June 1983. There is an endowment at Ethiraj College for Women in his and his wife's name.
