Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
---|---|---|
Shortcuts
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection) After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Semi-protection. High levels of infantile anon vandalism. Chris Cunningham 10:22, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 1 week, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Trebor 10:32, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Template:UnsignedIP (edit | talk | history | links | watch | logs)
full protection. I feel this is a high-risk and much-used template, like Template:Unsigned. Phaunt 08:56, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Fully protected Trebor 09:04, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Would you please tag it with {{pp-template}} instead of {{protected2}} (which, by the way, apparently is deprecated)? Phaunt 10:41, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Oops, sorry, my mistake; thanks. Should probably catch up on this stuff about now... Trebor 10:49, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

extended semi-protect. Already semi-protected for disruption by over 50 WP:SPA's on an ongoing poll. Requesting extended semi-protection until the poll is over. Endroit 07:25, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Sr13 08:24, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Bloomfield Hills, Michigan (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
semi-protect, There has been a constant addition of unreferenced information and vandalism for the last two weeks on this article by anonymous user(s) (who have also included personal attacks and stated "I'M GOING TO KEEP ON CHANGING IT BACK" in their edit summaries). --musicpvm 03:51, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have blocked the IP in question as it is obviously a sockpuppet of 75.45.85.124, whom I blocked just a couple of days ago for incivility and vandalism. Signature 04:02, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Declined IP blocked. Trebor 10:33, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
Current requests for unprotection
ShortcutsBefore posting, first discuss with the protecting admin on their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.
- To find out the username of the admin who protected the page, click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page," which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
- Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
- Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
- If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page, please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected, please use the section below.
Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Chris Candido (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Orville Brown (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views), Rodney Anoa'i (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
- Chris Candido: Fully protected after one revert and then a revert of a banned user sock.
- Orville Brown: One revert then fully protected.
- Rodney Anoa'i: One revert then fully protected.
This is excessive as they don't even meet the bare minimum of a revert war, pretty much the same situation that lead to the quick protection of Adrian Adonis. All three protected by admin Alkivar (talk · contribs). –– Lid 11:37, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Notably they were blanked for violating WP:BLP when all three are dead and then for violating WP:A which isn't even a current policy. –– Lid 11:38, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- The reasons for the locking are peculiar too "unsourced content... 1 month lockdown... if you source it... it will be unlocked, til then ... take it to talk". I don't recall there being a policy for locking articles on stubs and forcing users to use the talk page before being an editable wikipedia article. –– Lid 11:41, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Unprotected all. BLP isn't an issue, and edit warring was mild. Trebor 11:53, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

The disputed content (his real name) has finally been properly sourced through the Florida criminal database. There's no longer a reason for it to be protected, and it needs to be moved to Alvin Burke, Jr., but that's something else entirely.«»bd( stalk) 01:12, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Current requests for significant edits to a protected page
ShortcutIdeally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.
- Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among
{{Edit protected}}
,{{Edit template-protected}}
,{{Edit extended-protected}}
, or{{Edit semi-protected}}
to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed. - Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Misplaced Pages:Suggestions for COI compliance), the
{{Edit COI}}
template should be used. - Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Misplaced Pages:Requested moves, not here.
- If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
- This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.

semi-protect Over the past three months, indefblocked/community-banned user Mmbabies has been IP-surfing, causing major disruption to pages of all Houston TV stations. These pages are the ones he hits most. He has also started rewording my comments on my talk page. -- Gridlock Joe 02:56, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Declined Only two IPs are causing all the comotion. Please deal with these users directly and report their behavior to the noticeboard if needed. Thank you, Signature 03:46, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- What do you mean "only two IPs"? There are over 50 on ]. -- Gridlock Joe 03:50, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Okay, but this is not where you report sockpuppets. The above article has only been edited by two IPs in the past week, that is not enough to protect the page from legit IPs IMHO. If vandalism continues from a wider variety of IPs, the article qualifies for semi-protection. Let me take a look at those two IPs though... Regards, Signature 03:59, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- I count 26 different IPs editing the KETH article since Mmbabies was blocked, all with the same M.O. See my talk page for more discussion. -- Gridlock Joe 04:14, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- I see, but the article in question is not subject to heavy vandalism by multiple IPs. If I protect the article, good faiths edits from legit IPs would also be prevented; thus, I can I only protect an article if it is indeed neccessary. I just can't protect an article that has only been edited by two IPs in the last week-doing so would be unfair to good faith anon contributers. Signature 04:31, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- Very well. WP needs to have a clearer escalation policy for malicious vandals like Mmbabies. -- Gridlock Joe 04:35, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
- I have blocked the two IPs that are obviously sockpuppets and have been vandalising the article. If the problem continues (that is if he/she continues IP surfing and creating obvious sockpuppets just to vandalise this article) I will protect it-but let's see if the blocks take care of the problem first. Requesting reduction to semi-protection, since there doesn't seem to be a reason for full. At the least remove the TfD notice, since the discussion is now closed. -Amarkov moo! 00:23, 26 May 2007 (UTC) Further: an admin just redirected this, which, in combination with the protection, essentially enforces a nonexistent consensus that the template is bad. -Amarkov moo! 00:29, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Republican Party (United States) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
This article is fully protected, yet needs at some simple editing. i believe that the fact that the Republican party and the Democratic party have switched ideals in the late 1800's is important, i don't think full protection is needed in the history of the party part, only in the political views part. --Stonelance 21:30, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- The article you're linking to isn't protected. Trebor 21:35, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi Stonelance, please don't removed other editors' comments - it makes it confusing to follow what's going on. It appears you originally put "Republican Party" instead of the US-specific page, but that's now been corrected. It appears to me that the page is semi-protected, not fully-protected. If I understand correctly, that means that as soon as your account is four days old, you will be able to edit. If you'd like to make a specific edit in the meantime, you can request on the talk page that another editor make an edit on your behalf. Does that help? -Pete 21:51, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

semi-protection Light vandalism has already started that could easily escalate. The central issue being edited are recent allegations of cheating that started a spam war. Jordan (Katie Price) (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)
semi-protection long term or indefinite protection. See this diff; it represents 242 edits, to fairly small effect, over two months. Most of these edits were vandalism. I think this article meets the WP:SEMI requirement for indefinite semi-protection: "Biographies subject to vandalism and/or POV-pushing that are not widely watchlisted." I don't know anything about Jordan and only have this on my watchlist from some counter-vandalism time I've put in, and I've got 30 or so reverts on this article alone. I think this needs longer term protection. Mike Christie (talk) 00:32, 26 May 2007 (UTC)
