This is excessive as they don't even meet the bare minimum of a revert war, pretty much the same situation that lead to the quick protection of Adrian Adonis. All three protected by admin Alkivar (talk · contribs). –– Lid 11:37, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

The reasons for the locking are peculiar too "unsourced content... 1 month lockdown... if you source it... it will be unlocked, til then ... take it to talk". I don't recall there being a policy for locking articles on stubs and forcing users to use the talk page before being an editable wikipedia article. –– Lid 11:41, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Okay, but this is not where you report sockpuppets. The above article has only been edited by two IPs in the past week, that is not enough to protect the page from legit IPs IMHO. If vandalism continues from a wider variety of IPs, the article qualifies for semi-protection. Let me take a look at those two IPs though... Regards, Signature 03:59, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

I see, but the article in question is not subject to heavy vandalism by multiple IPs. If I protect the article, good faiths edits from legit IPs would also be prevented; thus, I can I only protect an article if it is indeed neccessary. I just can't protect an article that has only been edited by two IPs in the last week-doing so would be unfair to good faith anon contributers. Signature 04:31, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

I have blocked the two IPs that are obviously sockpuppets and have been vandalising the article. If the problem continues (that is if he/she continues IP surfing and creating obvious sockpuppets just to vandalise this article) I will protect it-but let's see if the blocks take care of the problem first. This article is fully protected, yet needs at some simple editing. i believe that the fact that the Republican party and the Democratic party have switched ideals in the late 1800's is important, i don't think full protection is needed in the history of the party part, only in the political views part. --Stonelance 21:30, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Stonelance, please don't removed other editors' comments - it makes it confusing to follow what's going on. It appears you originally put "Republican Party" instead of the US-specific page, but that's now been corrected. It appears to me that the page is semi-protected, not fully-protected. If I understand correctly, that means that as soon as your account is four days old, you will be able to edit. semi-protection Light vandalism has already started that could easily escalate. The central issue being edited are recent allegations of cheating that started a spam war. This 'war' has already knocked the official eve online forums out of commission temporarily from a denial of service style spamming. TIinPA

semi-protection long term or indefinite protection. See this diff; it represents 242 edits, to fairly small effect, over two months. Most of these edits were vandalism. I think this article meets the WP:SEMI requirement for indefinite semi-protection: "Biographies subject to vandalism and/or POV-pushing that are not widely watchlisted." I don't know anything about Jordan and only have this on my watchlist from some counter-vandalism time I've put in, and I've got 30 or so reverts on this article alone.
