Here you go, not great: But I guess it'll do for now. You want to do the honors of cropping and installing it? Quadzilla99 22:42, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

Okay it was added. I had trouble cropping it as it was some kind of weird file type that my computer couldn't even open. I've never seen one like that in over 200+ pics I've uploaded from flickr. Another commons user cropped it though. Quadzilla99 13:53, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your help in saving the article. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 09:05, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Is there any administrative action that can be taken against this user? S/he has uploaded a large number of fair use images of people that are clearly "replaceable fair use". Many come from Myspace. I've warned the user but they continue to upload these photos, and removing the "replaceable fair use" templates I've put on the image pages. Usually I'd just deal with this on an image-by-image basis but the vast number of images that need dealing with is just too much work. I'm most frustrated by the fact that the person continues doing this when they've repeatedly been warned not to. This is the same user that is throwing all these images onto the Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll‎ page (see , , ) PageantUpdater User Talk Review me! 07:23, 29 April 2007 (UTC)

Edit Warning

Hi, I am reporting an editor who is engaged in edit-warring. HappyInGeneralhas done about 34 reverts on () page alone in the last two weeks. He and I were warned on May 1st. I have refrained from editing that page, but HappyInGeneral has continued edit warning.

In ignoring the warning and 3RR rule, HappyInGeneral has declared himself an edit warrior. If he is not punished for this behavior now, no one will care about Wiki rules any more.

The edit warning on that page is mostly about a provocative and contested image added by HappyInGeneral. Many editors have rejected placing this picture in the intro. In trying to reach a compromise with him I created a section call “Abuses against Falun Gong practitioners” and placed this picture there. But HappyInGeneral deleted this section and moved the picture back to the intro thus starting a round of revert war.

 --Samuel Luo 06:23, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

I agree that there is a revert war going on, which I don't like, so please help me clarify a few things by commenting on my contributions.

The Suppression_of_Falun_Gong page:

I think that this contribution is essential: because it's well sourced and very relevant to the page. Please review and let me know what you think.

Also the tags are necessary because the current version of Suppression_of_Falun_Gong is hijacked by the POV of Special:Contributions/Samuel_Luo a Falun Gong critic who is proposed for being banned , also you may observe that the contributions of Special:Contributions/Pirate101 and Special:Contributions/Yueyuen are only imitating Samuel Luo's behavior.

A few questions:

  1. Is the information well sourced?
  2. Is the information relevant?
  3. Do we have consensus on that page?

My opinion regarding these questions, and please let me know if I'm wrong.

  1. +
  2. Basically if the material is well sourced and relevant it should be in that article.
  3. If the article is not on consensus than there should be tags presenting that.

As far as I see it, I'm acting according to the wikipedia rules and spirit, where Samuel is not, he is even removing tags that show that the article is disputed.

Also please note that there was a legitimate section for this on this page however this was deleted: . Abusively and repeatedly . Also please review this section of the evidence page:

PS: Note that this is question is here for more then a month now:

I would really like more input on this issue, from you or from anyone else, this would be very much appreciated. Thank You. --HappyInGeneral 21:14, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

SA general election, 2006

Just noting this page has now been on page protection for three weeks, and the user challenging the old version has not edited for nearly that entire time interval. I think there is scope for the article to return to the state it was in prior to 11 April, and for a range of editors from WP:AUSPOL to address the legitimate minor concerns with content and wording. Orderinchaos 11:47, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

User:Albertbrown80

Blnguyen, User:Albertbrown80, formerly User:Funnypop12, has been repeatedly blanking an entire text section of Muhammad for many months now. He has now taken this behavior to Islamic view of Jesus. While not particularly active, this vandalism is the only thing these usernames have ever contributed to Misplaced Pages. Additionally, it seems likely that the are sockpuppets of another user. Repeated blocks, including your last block of one week, have made no impression on him; he just picks up and resumes as if nothing had happened; indeed, he evaded his last Funnypop12 block by opening Albertbrown80. In that regard, we have a problem re RfCU: its existence makes some admins reluctant to block obvious socks without having run it by RfCU, but RfCU says explicitly that they do not deal with these types of situations.Proabivouac 03:20, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

Could I trouble you to take a look at the article and think of a better nom? Thank you so much for your time. Yours, Smee 06:48, 21 May 2007 (UTC).

  • I have changed the nom. However, please still feel free to adjust it or use a new one if you find something interesting, as you see fit. Thank you for your time. Smee 06:54, 21 May 2007 (UTC).
  • That's not a problem at all. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 09:05, 21 May 2007 (UTC)
    • Can you do me a favor and take a look at 2 of my noms that are expired, one in May 14 and one in May 13? I added some points there regarding prior comments. Smee 11:04, 21 May 2007 (UTC).
  • To be honest, I have a personal preference to not nominate every article I create for DYK, because for some of them, there simply isn't anything interesting or unusual about them. I looked at the expired ones, and I was unconvinced. The stuff about NPOV isn't an issue. They are the best sourced articles we have on DYK. It may still be POV, but not really anything more than other articles I saw there. To simply say that a books made an impact doesn't really tell us anything interesting, as I guess that if it doesn't, then it would fail WP:N. As for the other one, there isn't really anything interesting given the title. Personally I don't like using "dicdef" or "naming" hooks for DYK, unless it is coutnerintuitive, eg "...that Quantum groups are not actually groups but ]s? " is a misnomer or "..that there are 13 in a baker's dozen". I also generally don't like sourced POV like "...that someguy is reagrded as the best at something..." since there will always be someone who is the best. Better with weird things like John Devitt, Cecil Healy and 1955 South Vietnamese election - see User:Blnguyen/DYK. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Hkelkar 2

Hi - thanks, but I disagree with your move. My evidence only contains relevant quotes of e-mail text. All of those e-mail conversations are vital to highlight at this stage of the case. Additionally, "privacy" has been respected as only relevant segments of conversations have been posted. I will restore the full version shortly.

Should I point out that Hkelkar and co. have relentlessly spammed other users about all this nonsense? Where is their sense of courtesy? I'm sorry but I have to insist on re-posting the specific lines of conversation that are most relevant and provide context. I already told you guys before I submitted my evidence that I would do it like this - why didn't you say anything then. Rama's arrow (just a sexy boy) 13:54, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

16 May AfDs

Dear Blnguyen (Yellow Monkey?) -- I was wondering if you would consider taking a second look at some of your AfD closings from 16 May. I am not sure that some of them reflect community consensus. For CyberPower PCs, for instance, another administrator KrakatoaKatie relisted to get a further consensus--three further arguments were given, two for keeping and one against, I am not sure how this could have resulted in a consensus to delete. I think your argument is a good one, but I think that arguments like this should happen in the AfD and not in the closing, where they can't be disputed by other users. Similarly, for Cec Cinder, two other admins felt that the discussion did not reflect consensus; after four more voices were added--two for and two against--you closed as "spam" based on a low alexa rank, which no voice had the opportunity to dispute. Finally, for Titus North, the only AfD I participated in (where I suggested Neutral, leaning delete), you stated "Does not pass the PROF or political guidelines; no reasons given as why this person is an unusual case. As pointed out, he was the second of two candidates, so he was the only outlet for dissent." No one argued that he passed PROF, so that seems uncontroversial, but whether the community felt that he passed the political guidelines had not been concluded--it seemed like a relisting to get further consensus was in order. Thanks for considering these ideas. -- Myke Cuthbert (talk) 16:29, 21 May 2007 (UTC)

Yes, as far as the CyberPower one is concerned, I note one of the opiners said keep per WP:V, which is a necessary but not a sufficient criteria for retention. As for my extra comments, I should note that one person did cite the WP:CORP guidelines and I simply put an explanation as to why this failed. I guess it would be better if the opiner explained why it failed, since I can see that it may be perceived that I have veered into becoming an active participant. But I see that the DRV is up and running so we can have a discussion there.Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
For Titus North, some people did invoke PROF, although that was to show that he was not notable on as an academic. This is pertinent I feel, since in the article his claims are due to academia as well as election. It was also noted by one opiner that he was one of only two candidates. Possibly the user meant to imply that if he came second out of three of four candidates that would be better. Perhaps I read too much between the lines, but I got the impression that there was an implication that he would have gotten votes because he was the only outlet for expressing dissent at the incumbent. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
As for Cinder, the same broad sentiments were expressed about RS, N etc. Since there was no forthcoming extra evidence I went to do a take a look, but the sourcing problems were still there also. Thanks, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 08:28, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I appreciate it. For Titus North I did think I saw that he was the second of two candidates in a run-off after having already defeated "minor" candidates (including a Republican one); or something like that--there was certainly a debate involving more than two candidates (in which North, like all but the eventual winner, had only passing coverage in the press). I'm not sure if being NOT endorsed (even after a lengthy discussion) by a major newspaper is noteworthy; like I said, I agree with your decision in all three cases, but I wasn't sure that there was a consensus yet to delete. -- Myke Cuthbert (talk) 15:40, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

It came from one of those gallery contests at a fair. As for the Australia suit, that is mine. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 05:25, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! :D JBarrett 05:32, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Brett Lee sockpuppetry

In response to your request, Blnguyin is the same as Star cricketer, Bangarji, Ajaylal, and Liver01, which all seem to be related to sockpuppetry at Brett Lee. Dmcdevit·t 06:27, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

DYK

Hi Blnguyen, thansk for the kind remark on my talk page and for the hard work at DYK (I only now noticed that you posted more than the standard template at my talk, sorry!). Fram 07:04, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

DYK

Hi Blnguyen. I have been working on an article, Syrian American, in a subpage of my user page. I want to nominate it for inclusion in the DYK section of the main page. I assume it wouldn't be a problem if I just move it to the article space now, eh? The article has a bunch of free images and a couple of hooks. Do you have any suggestions on what hook, along with an image, if possible, would be the best to choose? Cheers, Anas 12:30, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

I understand you may be busy. Could you at least tell me if it would be OK if I move it? Will it affect the DYK nom? I would appreciate a reply. —Anas 09:14, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Never mind. :) —Anas 15:02, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
No problem. Thanks anyways, and happy birthday! —Anas 09:17, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

License tagging for Image:Kunta-haji.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Kunta-haji.jpg. Misplaced Pages gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Misplaced Pages, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Misplaced Pages:Media copyright questions. 06:07, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks, I typed in {{c-uploaded}} incorrectly so it didn't work. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:56, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

SMG

Haven't done a proper read or fact-check, but have some general cribs. Shall I post them here ? Tintin 06:27, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Why not? Blnguyen (bananabucket) 06:32, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Mainly, the amount of statistics and scores should be cut down and more substance added. Score-based articles may be okay for lesser cricketers but for Gavaskar I guess there should be enough documentation around (one autob and two autobiographical works plus more than three biographies on him ). Re. the missing things, take for instance the occasions when he lost the captaincy :

  • Despite this, he was stripped of the captaincy when India toured England in 1979 for a four Test tour.

The general view of this is that SMG and Kirmani (who was replaced by Bharat Reddy ) were sacked from the captaincy and the team respectively because they were talking with Packer. I think SMG has denied it, not very sure. (Also seem to remember (not sure again) that the official reason was that Venkatraghavan was selected as the captain because he had experience in cricket in England and in one day cricket, but no one gives any credence to it).

  • Having secured the series 2-0, Gavaskar was stripped of the captaincy for the drawn Sixth Test.

What happened here was that, there was a WI tour planned in March 1980. Since there had been too much cricket that season, SMG wanted it to be postponed by two weeks. BCCI refused. So SMG refused to tour and since Viswanath was expected to be the captain, he stood down for the last two matches of the season to give him practice. In the end, WICB was not interested in a Gavaskar-less team and the tour was scrapped.

  • the series ended 1-2, and with a poor display of 140 runs at 17.5, Gavaskar was again axed as captain.

SMG captained India to a win in the WCC in Australia and then retired on his own (he had announced his intention to retire before the WCC began).

More context should be provided around the events. Mihir Bose should be useful for a lot of this. Tintin 06:42, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that I was wondering about the politics and such and why these gaps happened. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:56, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Problems with an article

Hi Blnguyen. Could you please look at recent edits on Buddhism and Hinduism. A user seems to have broken WP:3RR, and is acting here in a way that appears unreasonable to me. deeptrivia (talk) 19:17, 25 May 2007 (UTC)

He does not appear to have broken 3RR, and the revertwarring has stopped for a while. I will try and take a read but I don't know anything about this stuff specifically. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:56, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

Hi Bl, thanks for the nice welcome back :) I'm kind of only half back, but this should improve in the coming weeks. During my half-eyed review of things in my absence I saw that the DYK process changed somewhat, so I'll give you a shout for a mini-tutorial before I get back to the coalface. Cheers. --Cactus.man 20:43, 26 May 2007 (UTC)

Newsletter

Hi Blnguyen, how are you doing? If you are active, can you create the May newsletter? I will distribute it.. Thanks — Lost 02:29, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, I think I need a bit of a rest from India related events for a while for rather obvious reasons. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:56, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Well the image is really neat! The politics warrants that a non Indian do the reporting ;). And yeah, your prediction may indeed come true soon enough:)... Well, I guess we will have to forgo this edition then... Hope sanity prevails soon — Lost 10:57, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Suggestion

Hi., i was working on the List of Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh wikipage and removed the earlier reference to caste/community of the CM. I checked with the other CM list for reference - List of Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu (FL) and there is no mention of the caste/community of the CM. An anom. editor (59.93.77.103) added the detail back and left this message on the talk page of the article - "no. caste is relevent. ap politics without caste is a joke - 59.93.77.103". I am wondering if we need to semi-protect this page. Let me know. Kalyan 18:14, 27 May 2007 (UTC)

Well, unfortunately you can't sprotect a page to disable an anon opponent, but I disagree that it should not be there. Blnguyen (bananabucket) 03:56, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Stub?

Dear Blnguyen, if you care to cast your eye over the history of Roger Morris, you will see that it's slightly unusual. I wished to nominate the recent expansion for DYK, in order to encourage further mainspace contributions by Clio the Muse:

But, on second thoughts, I decided that it still looks stubby. I'd like to know your opinion whether it could eventually qualify. --Ghirla 20:05, 28 May 2007 (UTC)

Cross-posted from Template talk:Did you know

With regard to my self-nom of Robert Alexander Inch, I have to say that in a year now on Misplaced Pages, this is the first time I've ever been told that anything I wrote was too short. (Normally, I get the opposite complaint; I once asked a wiki-friend if he'd seen my !vote yet on Mackensen's RfB, and his response was "yes, I read your book.") Regards, Newyorkbrad 03:48, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

(I saw your response on the DYK talkpage) I must have missed the minor wheel war of January 15—I wasn't paying attention to DYK back then (actually my RfA was going on that week, so I was definitely focused elsewhere). Please tell me there wasn't an edit-war over DYK selections. Newyorkbrad 04:01, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Its been a whole year...

DYK Flight feather

The main page says waterfowl pictured and shows the image of a kite (not a waterfowl) from the Flight feather article. A suitable waterfowl image can be picked from almost any Duck article instead. Cheers Shyamal 06:28, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry ! It has been noted in the right place on the main page error reports. Shyamal 06:45, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

Hi: Thanks very much for your comments on my flight feather article. I worked hard on it, so it's certainly nice to have it recognized! And I'll add my congratulations to those listed above; you do a lot of work here, and we certainly appreciate it! MeegsC | Talk 08:29, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Mass DYKs

I'll try and keep them down now. I just had a productive day that day. I was supposed to be covering the last two days of the Intercontinental Cup final for CricketEurope, but it finished early, leaving me with two whole days off work. I put my efforts into Misplaced Pages! Sajjida Shah is, as you said a remarkable woman. The thing I find most remarkable, but didn't use as the hook as non-cricket people might not understand it, is that despite having the best bowling figures in ODIs, she's only bowled one over in her two Tests! Andrew nixon 09:09, 29 May 2007 (UTC)

Disappointed

In the article State terrorism in Sri Lanka, you edit patterns which is contrary to the talk page tag which says that it is a controversial subject so please achieve consensus before making major changes is very disappointing. I can understand a tom, dick or harry indulge in such edit patterns but an admin should set the example for others to follow wikipedia rules and expectations. For example your personal opinion that Tamilnet is a blog is totally not acceptable to other wikipedians as well as reputable sources such as BBC, CNN and a number of research papers that is totally in disagreement with your personal opinion.. For example in an AFD this is what another wikipedian said about such comments.

Comment: Yes. While recognizing that the Sri Lankan-Tamil civil war is a longstanding and viciously contested dispute, I decline to take notice of pissing matches between the various factions as to which source is supposedly discredited by its alleged adherence to one side or another. Fox TV is commonly presumed to be a biased mouthpiece for right-wing ideologues, but I don't think you'd get very far claiming it doesn't qualify as a reliable source on that count. RGTraynor 17:02, 24 May 2007 (UTC)

Just think about the above comment. Thanks Taprobanus 13:13, 29 May 2007 (UTC)
