Khulna University (Bengali: খুলনা বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) is the only one university of Bangladesh in which there is no Student Politics and Session Jam. It is situated at Gollamari beside the Khulna-Satkhira Highway. At present it is one of the leading University of Bangladesh. This university follow the international course credit system. Now Khulna university have 16 discipline under five school.
History
The people of the Greater Khulna Region had a demand of long time for a university in the region since the universities were established in the other contemporary divisions of Bangladesh in due course of time. But, at long last, the university came into being in 1987 in the name of University of Khulna; and the Khulna University Act was passed in the Bangladesh National Parliament in July 1990.Accordingly the University started its journey through the inauguration of academic activities with only 80 students in four Disciplines on 25 November 1991. Khulna University bears a distinct significance due to its location in a divisional headquarters, which is the third largest metropolitan city of Bangladesh, and where exists a good number of development centers established by the initiatives of the governments and the private developers. Since the partition from British-India in 1947, the city has been growing as an important place for trade, commerce and industries. With a view to justifying its growing importance to national economy, the Mongla Port and the Khalishpur Naval Base were established in due course of time.
Standing on the estuary of the Bhairab and the Rupsha rivers, the city that was established in 1884 as a small city, with the passage of time it ranks third to the map of our national geography and where live about 1.8 million people at present. It is also a divisional where stay the second port city-the Mongla Port of the country and the Sundarbans-the part of the World Heritage. It is a picturesque countryside flowed by many rivers, canals, distributaries, tributaries around and abounded with heritage of rich and varied biological and genetic diversity of plants, birds, fishes, animals, reptiles, amphibians, Royal Bengal Tigers and spotted deers.

The academic program of the University commenced in August 1991 with four disciplines: Computer Science and Engineering, Architecture, Business Administration, and Urban and Rural Planning. In the following year, Forestry and Wood Technology and Fisheries and Marine Resources Technology disciplines started their academic activities. Now there are sixteen disciplines under five schools. It is the only university in Bangladesh where student politics is not allowed. There is also no session jam which has created a stable facility of study.
The medium of instruction is English. The academic year lasts from July to June.

- Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering: Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering was launched in the tertiary level of studies for the first time in Bangladesh in 1995. It was opened as Biotechnology Discipline, later on it was renamed as Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering Discipline.

Khulna University was first to introduce multidisciplinary subjects in the field of life sciences. Integration of technological aspects in biological sciences for human welfare was prime concern. Each subject introduced was unique and first of its kind in Bangladesh. The students from the life science school are now doing well all over Bangladesh and abroad.

The discipline is the pioneer of introducing Business Administration study in Bangladesh. From the discipline 12 batches has already passed out and they are serving in all the leading corporate houses both at home and overseas.

The Computer Science and Engineering
CSE also runs the PGDIT (post graduate diploma in information technology) programs with great success. It is one of the earliest Computer science department in Bangladesh which successfully provide a good number of graduates in last decades. Student pass from this department now working all over the world. A significant number of students currently involve in researches in different prestigious university and research center aboard.
Every year a national seminar on information technology has been held in the university. Many national as well as International renowned faces participated the seminars. Various software fares have been held in the campus premises.
The teachers and students of this discipline do good quality of research in IT sector. There are good number of research papers written by them, are published in international proceedings and journals each year.
The Electronics and Communication Engineering
This subject of this university was first offered in 1997. This discipline is the first of its kind in Bangladesh. Presently it is the top ranked discipline of this university. Beside regular study curriculam it conducts a project fair every year at the world telecommunication day. The students bring their electronics based projects in the fair. Among them best ones are selected and rewarded. This discipline currently has a seminar library, a digital electronics lab, an electrical lab, a computer lab. Soon it will have a communication lab facility.
Urban & Rural Planning
The physical environment is the platform of all human activities, to accommodate which it is constantly been modified in order to ensure social desirability, economic feasibility, and ecological sustainability of human intervention, the need for planning for the built environment, ranging from a narrow lane to a large region is a unquestionable. In the backdrop of scarcity of land and other resources and high product of mutually interacting social, political, cultural, economic and technological factors needs skilled planners for managing it and guiding its change in desired direction.
The Urban and Rural Planning (URP) discipline the earliest academic discipline in the country to in part planning education at under graduate level, was established in Khulna University in 1991 with a view to producing qualified planners. It is one of the four disciplines with which Khulna University started its academic programme. The urban and rural planning discipline offers a four years undergraduate degree in urban and rural planning. This discipline is now offer master’s degree programme in urban and rural planning.

SOIL SCIENCE DISCIPLINE
As Bangladesh is an agricultural country.For National development agriculture is a wepon but there are some lack of utilization of the Soil of Bangladesh. From there, Soil science Discipline has opened at Khulna University. The Head of this Discipline is Md.Mizanur Rahman Bhuiyan.Soil Science start its journy from the year 1999.Three batchs already passing out to serve the country.But Govt. Do not take any necessary steps to impliment this knowledge of soil science to our poor farmers.
