Óglaigh na hÉireann
Hi Johnathan. I agree that it would be nicer to have something shorter than Óglaigh na hÉireann (Continuity IRA splinter group) as the article title. Care must be taken though not to opt for a short name at the expense of clarity; Óglaigh na hÉireann (paramilitary) would have the same problem of not explaining to the reader the specific group in question. How about Óglaigh na hÉireann (2006-), or something along those lines? --Kwekubo 01:20, 1 February 2007 (UTC)

- That's a good point. My reasoning is that this group not only uses ONH as their only name for themselves (whereas the others all simply use ONH as another, more ceremonial name), but the Independent Monitoring Commission refers to them as ONH. I think that Kwekubo and I have agreed that Óglaigh na hÉireann (2006) would be a good name, but I'm waiting for him to give me a real response. What do you think, Vintagekits? Citations
It's easy enough to do refs properly. There are appropriate templates on Misplaced Pages:Citation templates. See also WP:CITE. You use those in the text. Actually in the text, if you just put:
- <ref>Description of the reference here</ref>
it will then show up automatically under references lower down.
At the bottom of the page, above external links section you put:
- ==Notes and references==
- <references/>

Next tip
The first time you have a ref in an article, you name it:
- <ref name=fred>Description of the reference here</ref>
Any other time you use the ref subsequently, you put:
- <ref name=fred/>
If you forget the /, then it blanks the rest of the article!
Good refs are the only way to create a credible article.

WikiProject IRA
Hi all, I'm rather new to the Wiki (just joined up a few days ago), but the whole WikiProject concept seems like an effective tool for gathering a group of people together to work on a specific subject. I'm primarily interested in contributing to areas related to Irish nationalism, and the Irish Republican Army, and I've noticed a few of you have quite a lot of involvement in the same area. So, I wonder if anyone would be interested in forming a WikiProject focusing on Irish Nationalism? Wikipeda:WikiProject Irish Republican Army seems like a good title to me! WP:WPIRA would be a great shortcut! I'm posting this up on many different pages, so I would especially appreciate it if, if you're interested, you would join me at User talk:Johnathan Swift#WikiProject IRA. - Hi there! I'd love to collaborate with some of you on writing articles pertaining to Irish nationalism. However, to avoid some potential conflict down the road, might I humbly suggest changing the name of the WikiProject to WikiProject Irish Nationalism, WikiProject Irish Republicanism, or a similar derivitave? The IRA, while an important and necessary part of Irish nationalism, does not encapsulate the entire ideal, and might appear contentious, especially given the recent steps towards peace. - Hi Gaillimh! My desire is to much more directly work on articles which are related closely to the IRA, and having the IRA(s) being the central focus of the WikiProject. The lines I added to the page about including broader topics such as Irish Nationalism and Irish Republicanism were much more of an afterthought. I'd love to see people working on other aspects of Irish Nationalism, but I'd really like to use this WikiProject to focus on the IRA. If the project does widen a bit, I don't quite see why the name would have to change. I wouldn't say no outright, but I really feel like WP:IRA is an excellent title! Images in signatures
Hello. Welcome to Misplaced Pages. You just got here a few days ago, and you're doing great so far. I noticed, however, that you use an image in your signature. The guideline WP:SIG#Images says that images should not be used in signatures and gives a few reasons why. Please change your signature to meet that guideline. Also, while not an absolute requirement, it is common practice for a signature to resemble to some degree the username it represents. Your username is "Johnathan Swift", but your signature reads something completely different, "Erin Go Bragh". IRA-stub
Hi - it has come to our notice that you have recently created a new stub type. As it states at Misplaced Pages:Stub, at the top of most stub categories and in many other places on Misplaced Pages, new stub types should be proposed prior to creation at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, in order to check whether the new stub type is already covered by existing stub types, whether it is named according to stub naming guidelines, whether it reaches the standard threshold for creation of a new stub type, whether it crosses existing stub type hierarchies, and whether better use could be made of a WikiProject-specific talk page template.
In the case of IRA-stub, it's not that likely that there are the required number of stubs for such a stub category. It's also not standard stubbing practice to create stub types for one side of a current or recent civil conflict. None of the current stub types that could take these stubs (such as NI-stub and NI-bio-stub) have sufficient stubs that splitting them makes any real sense from a stub-sorting point of view. Your WikiProject would almost certainly be far better served by a WikiProject-specific talk page template. Your new stub type is currently listed at WP:WSS/D - please feel free to make any comments there as to any reason why this stub type should not be proposed for deletion at WP:SFD. I noticed you've been editing and not using references (refs). These are important to validate your writing and inform the reader. Any editor can remove unreferenced material and unsubstantiated articles may end up getting deleted, so when you add information, it's highly advisable to also include a reference to say where the it came from. Referencing may look daunting, but it's easy enough to do. Here's a guide to getting started. Simple referencingThe first thing you have to do is to create a "Notes and references" section. This goes towards the bottom of the page, below the "See also" section and above the "External links" section. Enter this code:
The next step is to put a reference in the text. Here is the code to do that. It goes at the end of the relevant term, phrase, sentence, or paragraph to which the note refers, and after punctuation such as a full stop, without a space (to prevent separation through line wrap):
Whatever text you put in between these two tags will become visible in the "Notes and references" section as your reference. Test it outCopy the following text, open the edit box for this page, paste it at the bottom (inserting your own text) and save the page:

Note the square brackets around the URL. The format is with a space between the URL and the Title. If you do this the URL is hidden and the Title shows as the link. Use a double apostrophe for the article title, and two single quote marks for the name of the paper (to generate italics). The date after The Guardian is the date of the newspaper, and the date after "Retrieved on" is the date you accessed the site (useful for searching the web archive in case the link goes dead). Wikilinks, with double square brackets, function inside the ref tags. Dates are wikilinked so that they work with user preference settings. Citation templatesYou may prefer to use a citation template to compile details of the source. The template goes between the ref tags and you fill out the fields you wish to. The second time you use the same reference in the article, you only need to create a short cut instead of typing it all out again:
You can then use the short cut as many times as you want. Don't forget the /, or it will blank the rest of the article! A short cut will only pick up from higher up the page, so make sure the first ref is the full one. Some symbols don't work in the ref name, but you'll find out if you use them. Each statement in the article has a footnote to show what its source is. Use of fair use images
