Freddie Mercury

Hes reverting the Mercury page again, pls revert back again, thank you. --Spahbod 00:33, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

I am not a believer in edit wars and please don't ask me to get involved in one. In the first case the citation clearly indicated the singer as being Parsi. I notice today that the wording has been expanded to include this so that part is taken care of...more or less. Review the edit history of that page....Mercury's ethnic origin has been a bone of contention for a long time. I see someone has tagged him as being Iranian again...which again contradicts the references. That was already an edit war in the past. I expect another will break out once the regular editors notice the mistake. When this type of dispute breaks out it is better to request mediation rather than just rv each other and go 3RR. 156.34.142.110 21:38, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

Welcome

Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to Misplaced Pages. Thank you for your contributions.

Currently, you are editing without a username. You can continue to do so, as you are not required to log in to Misplaced Pages to read and edit articles; however, logging in will result in a username being shown instead of your IP address (yours is 156.34.142.110). Logging in does not require any personal details, and there are many other benefits for logging in.

When you edit pages:

  • Please respect others' copyrights; do not copy and paste the contents from webpages directly.
  • Please use a neutral point of view when editing articles; this is possibly the most important Misplaced Pages policy.
  • If you are testing, please use the Sandbox to do so.
  • Do not add unreasonable contents into any articles, such as copyrighted text, advertisement messages, and text that is not related to an article's subject. Adding such content or editing articles maliciously is considered vandalism.

The Misplaced Pages Tutorial is a good place to start learning about Misplaced Pages. For now, if you are stuck, you can click the edit this page tab above, type {{helpme}} in the edit box, and then click Save Page; an experienced Wikipedian will be around shortly to answer any questions you may have. Also feel free to ask a question on my talk page. I will answer your questions as far as I can! Thank you again for contributing to Misplaced Pages. —Dgies 15:43, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks you for the welcome. I enjoy RC patrolling every now and then just to see if I can catch anything naughty(or just plain stupid). Should I decide to actually "edit" I will set up a user name. Good day. 156.34.142.110 15:50, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks...

Question from a user who vandalised Misplaced Pages while unlogged

I didnt do the vandalism on the lars ulrich page, but it was funny. why did you have to be a kill-joy and revert it?

You're asking why I reverted vandalism??? Why are you here? 156.34.142.110 18:42, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello

I've noticed that you appear to be one user on a non-static IP. I suggest that you get an account with wikipedia, as it makes contribution and communication easier for non-static users. --Wildnox(talk) 18:50, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

I just RC watch. I've had a username in the past. But for hitting the recent changes link and picking off vandals(which is easy)...a username isn't really req'd. Plus, this static IP used by a couple of other editors(co-workers) who, like me, just RC watch for fun every now and then. Since nothing but valid edits and vandal rv's come from this IP....it already has a good "IP reputation". Why ruin it with a made up name? Thanks for the invite though. Have a nice day. 156.34.142.110 19:25, 19 February 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. AfD Speedy closed as Keep and noted on article talk. Thanks again! -- Avi 18:47, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Tanya Foxx

You tagged this article for speedy deletion as a db-repost but I can't find any evidence that its been debated at AfD in the past or even deleted before. I've removed the tag. If you can point me to the previous AfD discussion that resulted in a delete I will be happy to reconsider this. Thanks, Gwernol 14:56, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Bad memory glitch for me. The article creator has a history of NN articles which were either AfD'd or Speedy D'd. I was sure this one went through the "long road". Was it a speedy? If neither then I guess I need another cup of coffee to perk my memory up. The article is definitely a {prod} if anything. Like the creators other articles it shades WP:BIO and WP:NN pretty thinly. 156.34.142.110 15:09, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Rolling Stone's 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time

This article was indeed deleted before, on 12 November 2006 by User:Makemi with the reason "copyvio". This means it can't be tagged with {{db-repost}} since it hasn't gone through a full AfD. Its not clear to me whether this would actually count as a copyright violation or not. I'm not a copyright lawyer but I don't believe you can copyright lists - they are just ideas and copyright only applies to the particular form of an idea not the idea itself. It might be worth taking this to AfD to seek clarification from the broader community. Best, Gwernol 18:56, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Danny Cedrone

Thank you for removing the vandalism to the Danny Cedrone article. 23skidoo 18:52, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

No Prob. You never know what your going to see when you hit the RC link. Fun Fun Fun. 156.34.142.110 19:18, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

spelling

hi, i noticed that you changed the spelling in Battle of Normandy from american to british. i'll first assure you that i am not going to revert it, so there is no revert war brewing. but i thought i would gently (and hopefully without annoying you) point out the provisions of WP:ENGVAR to you, in case you hadn't seen them. the upshot (with some minor exceptions) is that americans should leave british spellings alone when they see them, and speakers of the "queen's english" should do the same with americanized spelling. to do otherwise encourages mindless edit wars that achieve nothing, and leave bad feelings all around. i just saw an editor lose his nomination to be an admin partly because an innocent change of "travelling" to "traveling" was deemed "ameri-centric".

my two pence. --barneca (talk) 22:21, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

Allen Collins

QUICK QUESTION.. WHY DID YOU REMOVE MY EDITS TO THE ALLEN COLLINS PAGE? THE INFORMATION I STATED WAS VALID.

-VOODOOLAKE

Edits were rv'd because A) the photo upload was incorrectly tagged and B)The text violated several Misplaced Pages Policies including WP:CITE, WP:NPOV, WP:NOR, WP:AWW and WP:V. Hope that helps. 156.34.142.110 12:32, 29 March 2007 (UTC)

Barnstar

The Barnstar of Anonymous Contribution
I hereby award you, the anonymous contributors hailing from 156.34.0.0 - 156.34.255.255, with The Barnstar of Anonymous Contribution, for the unsung and thankless service you have rendered unto Misplaced Pages, in your countless minor edits and bigger contributions over time. They have made a difference in our community and hopefully retelling this event to the barmen you encounter may bring forth the odd free beer to wrap in your hand. Thanks!--Alf 14:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC) and Bubba hotep 14:24, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
tears, smiles, waves to the audience as he walks down the podium, kisses losing IPs on the cheek. 156.34 is a team of bored librarians(and the occasional vandalising student...but we'll ignore them). On behalf of the "library crew"..we thank you for the token of Wiki-appreciation. 156.34.142.110 14:35, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Actually, this has more historical significance than appears on the surface. You see, this is probably the only Barnstar young Alfred has given out this year (something about losing the keys to the cabinet or something) so, as such, is rare indeed. Guard it with your life. ;) Bubba hotep 14:49, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I've swallowed the Barnstar key :) . Twenty years ago...in a bar in Halifax...I met Lemmy. He's not a very big man but his presence in the bar seemed to cast a veil of fear and trepidation over all the bikers and longshoremen in the establishment. With great anxiety I walked up to him and struck up a brief conversation about A) That I was a fan and B) That Motorhead's music really meant a lot to me.( I had tipped a few I expect I sounded like an idiot). Lemmy simply smiled/grunted/said thanks and clinked my glass. If I can stand up to him....Misplaced Pages vandals are easy. Have a nice day. 156.34.142.110 15:01, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Oh my golly gosh, we are to substantiate that Black Sabbath are heavy metal now, sheesh, what sillyness.... states off into the distance and wonders what will come over the hill next --Alf 13:14, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Metallica St Anger

What happened with the "counting in danish" part on the Metallica St Anger article? --Mikkelp 08:22, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

The article is for the song and not the album. The Danish counting happens before a different song other than St. Anger.don't make me listen to it just to find out which track it is :( . 156.34.142.110 12:17, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Ok I think I get it. My contribution was based on the fact that Lars counts in danish in the music video.

He's not wrong there

I love the edit summary, it's not far from the truth... --Alf 13:34, 24 April 2007 (UTC)

I thought you'd get a nice chuckle from that :) . Side thought... did you ever RfC Dirthbopper's 2 rv arbcom sidestep. I notice an IP chiming in on the "Alice ain't metal Man!" chat. It's basically repeating "word for word" Big Daddy's rant on my weekend IP talk page. Almost like he's adding a sock vote for some sort of concensus. I've said it before and I'll say it again. When you open up Misplaced Pages... check your opinions at the door. That my opinions anyways...OOPS, broke my own rule. 156.34.142.110 13:58, 24 April 2007 (UTC)
I must admit I thought it would be a greater expense of time and energy than I want to give over to a possibly negative conclusion. I still hope hits selfs hard to wake up to reality, but it doesn't work that a light of understanding will dawn in that contibutor's grey matter.--Alf 13:25, 25 April 2007 (UTC)
Sheesh another three hours tied to the desk looks out of the windows and sees some sun for the first time today and yearns to be able to "go outside and play" Coffee will not get me there, I declare insanity now, "Doctor, take me away, I'll go go quitely".--Alf 14:59, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
The best insanity check is to pass it on to someone else. Go right now to your local gun shop... browse over all the available handguns and ask the attendant lots of questions... then... when you appear to have made your decision... ask the storeclerk if they sell ski-masks! Then say... "WAIT, let me think about what I'm about to do... I'll get back to you." And walk out. There you go... ! Insanity passed on... breathe the free air again :) . 156.34.142.110 15:16, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Alf wonders what these "gun shops" are that Libs speaks of Oh I wish... that a) we had gun shop. b) I could just leave work and go do. c) I'd actually have the guts to do it if a) and b) were true.--Alf 15:31, 7 May 2007 (UTC)
Sorry for the "Country Ignorance" on my part. I am unfamiliar with how the system works where you live. I'm a Canuck. Where I live, we have as many gun/ammunition stores as we do grocery stores. If I truly wanted one, I don't, I could have one in less than an hour. Contrary to what you might think though... using my city as an example,... we have around 100 thousand people in/around my little hometown... and in the last 10 years we have only had 1 gun fatality. In fact, for my entire region along the east coast, around 2 million people spread out over 4 Atlantic provinces, gun related deaths are so rare I can count the yearly total on 1 hand. We are passive, but we are armed to the teeth so no one will f*ck with us :) . 156.34.142.110 16:26, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

Please cease the edit war over Wishbone Ash

The current edit war you are engaged in with another user over the article Wishbone Ash is non productive. Please let the article be for a while and hammer out your differences at the articles talk page at Talk:Wishbone Ash. If this continues, you may be blocked for violation of wikipedia's Three Revert Rule. --Jayron32|talk|contribs 18:23, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Technically not reverting. Some contributions from the fancrufter are valid. It simply requires some follow-up policy sweeping to keep it clean and neat. 156.34.142.110 18:27, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
I have requested page protection to stop the edit war. Whatever you call it, it IS an edit war, and needs to cease. I take no stance on who is right and who is wrong in their edits, only to note that edit wars are non-productive. As noted above, this issue should be taken to the talk page, where any differences can be hammered out, and should NOT be carried out by repeatedly changing eachother's edits to meet your own point of view (even if yours is RIGHT). --Jayron32|talk|contribs 18:36, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
You can ask Wiki alf or Bubba Hotep or JoanneB or Gwernol or Guinnog if a dedicated 156.34 IP editor will ever get an account...again :) . Their reply would be interesting. I struggle daily to maintain "the integrity of anonymous contribution". I would certainly use the article talk page if I felt that the fanboy would use it as well. But since they seem to have zero grasp of any Misplaced Pages editing policy... I doubt very much they are open to discussion. My AGF is thin on most days. For that particular editor... it = 0 . :) . I hope the page gets protected. but I also hope someone takes 2 secods to clean up the last couple of schoolboy book report edits. The article is bad enough as it is. Ahoy! 156.34.142.110 18:49, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Well, kudos to you for fighting that battle, uphill tho' it may be. And yes, I can see where you're at on the Wishbone Ash article but y'know the 3RR thing. Don't have to explain it to you :) - Alison 19:03, 22 May 2007 (UTC)

Probable copyvio at Commons

Hi Miss JoanneB. Could you check out the uploads of User:Lafit86 @ Commons. He claims "own work" but sources them from the artists websites. Smells of copyvio to me. Could you check it out? Thanks. 156.34.142.110 16:49, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Sorry Libs, have just gone on a wikibreak and will not have time to help out for a while! I'll be back ;-) --JoanneB 17:03, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Standing on the Shoulder of Giants

If you can explain to me how songs like "Gas Panic," "Fuckin in the Bushes," "Who Feels Love?" are not psychedelic rock, I will stop reverting it to the truth. Are you actually familiar with this album? It's considered to be psychedelic by Noel Gallagher himself, the man who wrote the damn album.

A goofball edit like that req's a ref. It's the Misplaced Pages way. 156.34.142.110 12:27, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Guns N' Roses

Hi! Why did you deleted heavy metal from Guns N' Roses infobox? Allmusicguide says that they are heavy metal http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll . Heavy metal needs to be in the infobox if the reference sais so. And in the Alice Cooper article you say that references are always right. You said in the Cooper's talk page, that "The genre's are well referenced and the opening lead in statement is cited as well using a reference that meets all WP:V and WP:CITE criteria. The genre is more than valid and removing it would just be incorrect/uncited". So I'm now saying the same thing to you! Why did you deleted cited genre??? -- JNCooper

Previous discussion and concensus. I don't really care if it's there. AMG is about the place it really shows up so it's not really a concrete V on the topic. Unlike the AC article where the evidence/concensus is overwhelming and only 1 editor, whose music edits on Misplaced Pages show a gross misunderstanding of the subject, seems to want to delete it from it's rightful place. 156.34.142.110 16:04, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Do you mean Daddy Kindsoul? I think he is totally right. I have five documentaries where Cooper tells about the original band. He says that they played theatrical hard rock and garage rock with glam-clothes and thats why they fit in Detroit rock-scene. Only documentary where I have seen him say that they were heavy metal is "Metal: A Headbangers Journey"-DVD. So how about a concensus in Alice Cooper being metal too? -- JNCooper
You can fit Daddy D_rocker's self-professed musical knowledge into a thimble. He is a major joke on Wiki-chats and newsgroups and he is on the VandalProof blacklist as a negative contributor to Misplaced Pages. I tend to ignore H_bangers Journey for any sort of comment. It flowered all the neg S-types of the genres fans... left out the "nerd factor"... and was more a self promo of the director as opposed to a true study of the music. I am a librarian. Verifiability and citation, for me, comes from books or pro music publications. So pro-review comments like S.T. Erlewine's or the Rolling Stone album guide referring him as a "beloved heavy metal entertainer(AC himself calls himself the "nice guy" of HM) or any number of the books ref'd in other Wiki-articles about the subject hold a lot more water than poor misguided Daddy D whose music knowledge places him somewhere in between gorilla and thug on the musical IQ scale... probably closer to gorilla. 156.34.142.110 17:53, 15 June 2007 (UTC)
Sounds OK for me. It's good to know that Alice Cooper is so multifaceted and has made so many styles of music between heavy metal and disco. And actually the genres doesn't matter. He is still a legend... --JNCooper

You can't erase the past

You have multiple complaints about you for removing old complaints about you. You can't erase the past since it is in your history.

Quit violating Misplaced Pages policty by deleting the link on the Iron Maiden page. Your efforts in doing so is considered vandalism because the link is considered acceptable by the majority. As of right now, it is being worked out so that you will not be able to further vandalize the page.

The fact that you refuse to email me (wsu@ryasrealm.com) just proves to me that you have no intention on working this out like a civil person.

The only complaints I ever receive are A) that I edit too strict to Misplaced Pages Policy and B) Some people hate it when I make them follow the rules. I never erase valid comment. Just whiney cry-baby rants. Stick to policy and Misplaced Pages will be a positive experience for you. And always mind WP:CIVIL please. A new and valid logged editor(an editor who dislikes anonymous IP's) rm'd your link in a random "drive-by"... and you made sock accusations in the edit summary of the article you were edit warring over??? I don't expect I will ever receive an apology from you. But I will AGF (that's WP:AGF) that you will apologise to the other editor. Stick your link on DMOZ and you can spam away to your hearts content. And have a nice day. 156.34.226.160 20:14, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Hello!

I have noticed that you are not finnish user. Am I right? Could you please put the picture that is in the english Alice Cooper article to the finnish one too? Because I don't know how to put it there. --Juspe

Thank You

Thank you so much for the Barn Star, I don't know what to say. I don't have much time right now (only about an hour a day for the Internet) but, yes I'll look at the list of banjo players on Saturday (fingers crossed.) Take Care INXS-Girl 14:08, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

List of banjo players

Oh God, what a mess, I've added a message on the talk page; what do you think? I really have to go off line now, but will help all I can. INXS-Girl 14:49, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Name calling and threats

Regarding your comments at User_talk:INXS-Girl:

  1. Please stop the name calling ("inclusionist"); it isn't particularly constructive or persuasive.
  2. The threat to get an admin involved if you don't get your way is not how the edit process is supposed to work. I assume that was supposed to intimidate me into agreeing with you. In fact, the edit process is supposed to be a cooperative process, and making threats is not part of that. Dsreyn 15:38, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
Quite the opposite actually. After 20000 edits as a logged user... and nearly as many as an anon... I am familiar with how the edit process is supposed to work. But when an editor with a agenda detrimental to Misplaced Pages... topped off by a pre-determined anti-anon attitude begins an edit war which will, in the end, have a negative impact on Misplaced Pages... I seek community, concensus, intervention and mediation. You are familiar with ], please re-read WP:AGF. It makes for better positive contribution to the project. I have sought help and guidance from experienced editors and administrators. And I have put a valid process in place for cleaning up what is, for now, a horrible Misplaced Pages article. My AGF is that you will be a good contributor to the cleanup process. Lists, like every other article, can be built up in such a way that they can actually obtain featured status. Even the quaint little banjo list can be a candidate for such a lofty venture. And it can certianly be built up to be an excellent companion piece to the main Banjo article. It all just takes time. Have a nice day!. 156.34.142.110 16:18, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

Is Van Halen metal?

Could you put heavy metal in the genre of Van Halen because VH is in the list of heavy metal bands and it is a cited fact? - Queen_Persian

The concensus on that article appears to be that, even though there is some mention of the genre in their history... it's not enough to warrant addition into the article. I have no real opinion. I don't have a problem with it being there... but brunting concensus is not the Wiki-way. 156.34.142.110 17:23, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

List of harmonicists

Re list of banjo players - you know I'll try and help if you need me but I don't want to get caught up in an editing war. Have you seen List of harmonicists? Now that is a mess. Look after yourself and have a great weekend INXS-Girl 10:56, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

List of banjo players

Just wanted to say that the page looks great, well done. Somebody did the same kind of thing on List of Stratocaster players, you can see how much hard work has been put into that (even though they won't let me add Tim Farriss because someone said he'd never heard of INXS, which made me smile.) It's great to see an editor who is willing to talk things through with other editors before leaping in and deleting things. Nice one INXS-Girl 11:20, 3 July 2007 (UTC)
