Swiss mushrooms are basically derived from the Swiss word for fungi. They were cultivated first in 1720 by the Vikings. They believed that it gave them sexual powers when fighing the armies of Genghis Khan. Unfortunately, the Swiss realised that the Vikings threatened the future of these mushrooms and grafted these onto apple trees. Hence today we have the Swiss Apple Mushroom.

A1 receptor

The adenosine A1 receptor is part of a group of G protein-coupled receptors that hyperpolarize cells and either inhibit or promote adenylyl activity and thus production of cAMP. A1 receptors inhibit adenylyl. A1 receptors are implicated in sleep promotion. They act by inhibiting wake promoting cholinergic neurons in the basal forebrain. A1 receptors are also present in smooth tissues throughout the vascular system as well as the adrenal gland.

BYU Centennial Carillon

The BYU Centennial Carillon is a bell tower on the campus of Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. It was erected in 1975 to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the school's founding. The carillon tower, built in a simple, modern style, stands 97 feet tall and contains 52 bells. It tolls a tune based on the hymn "Come, Come, Ye Saints," followed by the hour, and tolls a chime on the half-hour. Such automated tollings are controlled by magnetic tape. Carilloneurs may also play the instrument by means of a clavier located directly below the belfry, in a small room reached by a spiral staircase that ascends through the center of the tower. Brigham Young University is owned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, and its carillon is the only such instrument the church owns, anywhere in the world. Very rarely do LDS churches feature belltowers, and the only temple to contain a bell is the Nauvoo Illinois Temple. Nevertheless, these are single bells, not carillons.

Scorccio Records- UK music company founded in 1996 by DJ-Producer Mark Summers. Initially began as a House music label with Top 30 hits by Souvlaki "Inferno", JT Playaz "Let's Get Down" (both produced and remixed by Mark Summers). Also releases Chill Out style music.

Scorccio Music Replays formed in Barcelona, Spain by Mark Summers as the very first company to offer recreations of music samples commonly known as "sample replays", and providing accurate interpretations of existing music and/or sung vocal melodies. As opposed to MIDI files (instrumental music notation, played back via software), or karaoke versions of songs (similar to MIDI but with some backing vocals included), sample replays created by Scorccio have specifically enabled music producers to replace any sampled sound (normally restricted for release by copyright law) with a mechanical copyright-free assimilation (or cover version) of the original music. Rights of the original writers of the song or music(publishing copyright)remain intact.

Brontoscorpio anglicus

Brontoscorpio was a large scorpion (around 8 feet long) that lived underwater during the Silurian period. It was one of the dominant predators of its time, since the Arthropods were the largest animals on Earth. On the outside it was almost identical to a modern scorpion (besides its size), but it had gills to breath underwater. It also had a rudimentary lung system called book lungs. Book lungs were made up of round tissue stacked on eachother like the pages of a book. This allowed it to crawl out of the water to go from the ocean to lakes, or simply bypass a land barrier that cut off one sea route to another. It did not breathe in like we do, but simply absorbed oxygen when wind blew over its body, as modern species do. The higher oxygen content at the time supported these large animal, and, as the oxygen content dropped, they got smaller until they reached their size today.

Loss or Damage in the absence of (or without) inury.

This is the term used to describe those instances which contradict the standard common law maxim, that every injury should have a recourse at law. This is used in those instances where teh loss or damage sufferred is not able to be recovered at law. For instance if a trader loses custom to another trader, without the second party acting unlawfully (nb.also consider the common law and accidents involving un-domesticated animals and highways).

His mutant power was the ability to have spikes of bone project through his flesh. He was then able to make these spikes stretch to incredible lengths.

Other Externals are Agamemnon, Candra, Crule, Gideon, Nicodemus, Saul, Selene and Apocalypse (En Sabah Nur).

Ali Kosh

Southwest Asia was the center for the development of the Earth’s first civilizations and advancements of knowledge. Towns, such as Ali Kosh, Iran(6600 to 6000 B.C.), became widespread on the plains of the Mesopotamian Highlands and the plains of Iran, more specifically the Deh Luran plain. The Deh Luran plain is in Southwestern Iran, an arid piece of land at the base of the Zargos Mountains, and the focus of research and discovery looking at assumptions about the advancements of agriculture, herding, and irrigation.

Rice University did some of the first Archeological works done on the Deh Luran plain in the 1960’s. These excavations were done in the village site of Tepe Ali Kosh in the early 1960’s, and the village site of Tepe Sabz. The Rice University excavation projects used the first systematic sieving techniques to uncover and retrieve all artifacts and animal bones, and water floatation to recover “carbonized” seeds. The Rice University excavation project defined many cultural phases to the Tepe Ali Kosh and early civilization wonders. The cultural phases that were discovered include: evidence of the beginning of plant cultivation, early goat and sheep herding, and the early use of irrigation.

Ali Kosh, Iran was inhabited in the Neolithic or Formative period, which is defined by the presence of sedentary villages and domesticated plants and animals. The archeologists who excavated the Ali Kosh village were trying to find out more about the economic life of the “pre-agricultural community” and the evolution of the “domesticated agricultural adaptation.” After the excavations of the Ali Kosh village came the discovery of a cultural phase called the Ali Kosh Phase. This phase helped answer some of the questions that archeologists were trying to find more about. What the Ali Kosh phase attests to early civilization is: greater reliance on crops, within an economic structure built around hunting and gathering; greater reliance on domesticated emmer and barley (40%of the seeds recovered in the excavation of Ali Kosh). The residents of the Ali Kosh village also possessed pottery from 6000 to 5500 BC. The residents of the Ali Kosh and the Deh Luran plain also traded with other villages in lower Mesopotamia.

Low-hanging fruit

The low-hanging fruit theory refers to relative ease with which scientific, philosophical and technological discoveries are made at first compared with the difficulties once the subject has already been explored. For example, Darwin's theory of evolution was a low-hanging fruit from the biology tree, which, while difficult in itself, was not as complex as those higher fruits such as the structure of DNA and the human genome project, which both took considerably more work by more people. There is likely to be even more fruit yet to be picked from the biology tree, but it is even higher up and will take even more work and people to achieve.

Purgatory(band)

Purgatory is a band from South New Jersey less then 20 miles from Phladelphia. Purgatory started as a notebook in bassists Conner D.'s apartment simply as a method to pass time. In late 2005 Conner met guitarist Mike they soon started a band known as "No Joke" they planned to throw on some powercords to Conner's work and maybe play a couple shows in various local establishments..... Soon after they decided it was'nt a joke any longer, it was time to complete the band and get a bassist and drummer instead of Mike on guitar and Conner singing his notebook lyrics....which include completed songs "Come On," "I Apologize," and "The Day," (formerly known as Fear Over Here). After diffuculties finding a bassist willing to pratcice extensively, Conner decided he would buy a bass from friend Glenn who he was aware seling a bass. So know all No Joke needed was a drummer.....along came Vince, he was known as the best drummer around and he said he would gladly join, however the band decided to change the name "No Joke" to Purgatory permanetly. Purgatory has received criticism for not having any songs released in two months when other bands have released material. Due to Conner's excessive "Nirvana" and "grunge" influence they are commonly refererred as dumb for including melody as of pop songs into their music and many criticise that grunge and pop cant mix. However the band has set out to release single(s)by the end of 2006, and possibly their album "Unleashed Punishment" or "Visual Clarity" as their punk rock status grows they become more popular on various band sites with their increasing requests for music to be released....Purgatory can be found on myspace. Purgatory will release a single with "Rivals" as a B-side, "Rivals" was the only song written by Vince. The band was reluctant to submit lyrics to the band for fear of ruining their chemisty of Conner writing all songs. "Rivals" was written about things that were said about the band in recent days/weeks particulary their nemesis "Reddy Sett Go."

Vaginal Ring

A vaginal ring is a method of birth control. It is a thin, transparent, flexible ring that a woman inserts into her own vagina. It contains hormones similar to birth control pills, and is left inside and steadily releases these hormones over a period of three weeks. At the end of the three weeks, the woman removes the ring, after which she will have her menstrual period, and inserts a new ring the next week. Alternatively, she can insert a new ring immediately to avoid menstrual bleeding.

Agrobacterium rhizogenes

Agrobacterium rhizogenes is a gram negative soil bacteria. In the rhizosphere, plants may suffer from wounds by soil pathogens or other sources . This leads to the secretion of phenolic cpmpounds like acetosyringone which have chemotactis effects that attract the bacteria. Under such conditions, certain bacterial genes are turned on leading to the transfer of its T-DNA from its RI plasmid into the plant through the wound. After intergration and expression, in vitro or under natural conditions, the hairy root phenotype is observed.

The hairy roots roots are grown in vitro in bioreators to study their soil interaction with other pathogens like fungi and nematodes. It has also led to the production of certain metabolic compounds that the plant is known to secrete for its commercial value especially the medicinal plants where a larger root biomass is obtained.

The Kroisos from Anavysos

Sources

The Kroisos from Anavysos was a miracle of art during the Greek Dark Ages. Showing both glory to the dead soldier and the beauty of the human body, this statue was part of the beginning that led to all of the Greek statues we see in museums today. It was found during an excavation in Greece, dug up in fantastic condition. Unfortunately, the one we see all the time is in fact a Roman copy of the original Kroisos. Nevertheless, this was truly an amazing artistic breakthrough in its time. More can be found at Answers.com
