How I did a merge

Here are some links showing how I did that merge you requested. I did it the other way round, with Transalpine Gaul redirecting to Gallia Narbonensis - if you disagree, let's discuss it at the talk page for Gallia Narbonensis. Anyway, the process (and I don't claim this is ideal or 'correct') was:

The important point is to link to both articles in the edit summaries (links not shown above, but are shown if you follow the links). That makes it clear what is going on. Hope that helps.

Deleted edits

Copied from the Help Desk.

Does anyone know how to view a list of edits that you made on articles or pages that were later deleted? These edits don't show up in a user's contributions log. Thanks. Carcharoth 09:11, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

This will become a work area. Eventually.

Orphaned talk pages

Talk pages where article has been deleted (and talk page was not deleted as well), or where an orphaned talk page was created by mistake by an editor using AWB.

Middle-earth redirects tagged with ME-project template

Quite a few talk pages of Middle-earth redirects have been tagged with the ME-project template. This unneccessarily inflates the amount of articles in the assessment statistics. Some of these redirects have been categorised to Category:Middle-earth redirects, some haven't. The ones that have, and have the ME-project template, can be identified by comparing the articles in Category:Unknown-importance Tolkien articles (all the ones assessed for importance are not redirects), and those in Category:Middle-earth redirects. This list could then be tackled using AWB, or some other semi-automated system to either add the parameter "class=NA", or simply to remove the ME-template altogether (my preferred solution), as the category already keeps track of these ME-redirects.

Finding the redirects that haven't been categorised yet will be more difficult. I generated the initial list by using "What links here" on a browse through the entire set of articles, but gave up part-way through. Any ideas for an easy way to find redirects would be appreciated. The editor who added the ME-project template to these redirects (User:Kaobear) might know a way. Drop a note over there at some point. Carcharoth 16:56, 23 October 2006 (UTC)

Completed Translation ———— (fr)(en) 1356 Basel earthquake ———— (more info)
  •  Translation status: Stage 4 : Completed Translation (How-to)
  •  Comment: French article is short but well-referenced. No English article appears to exist, though the earthquake is mentioned at Basel and List of earthquakes.
  •  Requested by: Carcharoth 00:35, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
  •  Interest of the translation: One of the larger known earthquakes before the 20th century, evidence of which is still seen today in Basel (cracks in walls of Basel Cathedral). Interesting bits of history and science, and lots has been written about it (2006 was the 650th anniversary of the earthquake). See this Google search for more information.

Clarification on deletion

See this diff http://en.wikipedia.org/search/?title=Misplaced Pages:Village_pump_%28technical%29&diff=101684983&oldid=101671249 for Brion Vibber's clarification on deletion. I take this to mean that the "deletion is no big deal, it can always be undeleted or recovered later" argument (whether for AfDs of disputed articles, or for MfDs of pages with lots of history, or for pages that might be used in evidence) should not be overused, or extended indefinitely into the future. It really should be considered temporary. Anything that might be needed in the future (even if not needed now) should be undeleted and archived properly.

THIS IS NOT A TALK PAGE!!

The talk page is That way ---->...
