A lot of the charm of YouTube is its amateur nature -- most of the videos seem populated with ordinary people. Reality television once promised this kind of Joe Sixpack feel, but its increasingly contrived scenarios have made us cynical about the genre. The participants may be ordinary, but the situations are not. YouTube is a kind of reality TV without the corporate filter -- at least, that's the idea.
