Revision as of 06:04, 27 September 2003 by 217.155.205.64 (talk) (Charity Commission - not Charities)(diff) ← Previous revision | Latest revision (diff) | Newer revision → (diff)Searchlight magazine describes itself as an "international anti-Fascist magazine", and publishes material critical of far-right political parties worldwide. It is edited by Gerry Gable, a former member of the Communist Party of Great Britain and convicted burglar.
Searchlight has consistently published exposes of the National Front and the British National Party and their members, many of which have led to innocent people being attacked by gangs of criminals and yobs. In December 1976, Searchlight was described by a stipendiary magistrate, Mr. John Milward, as "scurrilous and disreputable ... What purpose can there be in advertising opponents' meetings except for the purpose of identifying them and creating disorder and violence? This seems to be an attempt to stir up trouble which is to be very strongly deprecated." - Birmingham Post 31/12/76
Searchlight has also written about organizations such as Combat 18 and the neo-nazi music scene.
Searchlight has been controversial on both the right and the left of the British political spectrum. Many organisations such as Anti-Fascist Action refuse to work with it due to its alleged links with the British security forces and its strong pro-israel stance.
The organisation and the closely-linked searchlight educational trust is currently being investigated by the Charity Commission for fraud.
