The Battle of the Coral Sea, May 8, 1942 was a major naval battle which occurred early in World War II in the South Pacific. American ships involved included the aircraft carriers Yorktown (CV-5) and Lexington (CV-2) and the ] USS Salt Lake City

a point 

some 450 miles east of Tulagi.
