Richard Hammond is an award winning British television presenter best known for co-presenting Top Gear along with James May and Jeremy Clarkson. Earlier in his career he worked at Radio York and Radio Cumbria. He also presents "Brainiac: Science Abuse" on Sky One, Should I Worry About...? on BBC One and Time Commanders on BBC Two. He presented Crufts 2005. He presents a Saturday morning show on Radio Berkshire and has a column in the motoring section of the Daily Mirror on Fridays.
His height (5'7"), or lack of it, is the source of much whimsical banter between him and his fellow Yorkshireman, Jeremy Clarkson, on Top Gear, but we still love him. Most notabaly, when driving the Bowler Wildcat off-road vehicle, he referred to himself as a 'driving god' much to the amusement of Clarkson and May. He is also often called upon to do some of the more dangerous stunts for Top Gear, for example, he sat in a car while it was struck by lightning, and he also wore very, very nice tights on national television for a race between a Bobsleigh and a Mitsubishi Evo.
A former pupil of Ripon Grammar School, from 1987 to 1989 he attended Harrogate College of Art and Technology and was friends with author and academic Jonathan Baldwin.
Unfortunately for his female fans, of which there are many and they're all very dedicated, he is married with two young children.
Oh, and he is a damn fine specimen of a man and anyone who says any different must be thinking of the wrong person.
