This page is a place to list foreign language articles on the English Misplaced Pages, to see if they can be translated before they are listed on Misplaced Pages:Votes for deletion. If someone speaks the language the article is written in and can state that it is not worth translating, the item should be moved to VfD.

If the article is a mere copy of (all or part of) an article in a foreign-language Misplaced Pages, it can just get added to Misplaced Pages:Candidates for speedy deletion: we want to discourage people who cut articles from one Misplaced Pages and paste to another without translating. If the intent is to ask for a translation, the correct place to do that is Misplaced Pages:Translation into English.

If an article has been listed here for two weeks and is still untranslated, it should be moved to VfD. When moving items to VfD, the boilerplate text on the article should be changed from {{notenglish}} to {{subst:vfd}}.

When listing a page here, you might want to find the Misplaced Pages:Embassy or Ambassador member of the Misplaced Pages that relates to the language the article is in and invite them to move the page to their own Misplaced Pages. If you don't even know what language the article is in you could use Language recognition chart and if that fails some language recognition web site, such as xrce,or languid.cantbedone.org to find out. Please leave a note on this page if you do this to prevent duplication of messages. If you have come here from another Misplaced Pages, please note on this page what you think should be done with the article.

If you can tell what language an article is written in, that might help.

Boilerplate text

For a page that needs translation in its entirety (so it would be appropriate to delete if not fixed):

1. Use the notice {{notenglish}} which will show up as:
Translation to english arrow iconThis page needs translation into English.
This page is written in a language other than English. If it is intended for readers from the community of that language, it should be contributed to the Misplaced Pages in that language. See the list of Wikipedias.
2. Add a mention on this page.

If there is just a section that needs translation, that notice is inappropriate, so it's a little trickier:

1. Use Category:Pages needing translation.
2. Add an appropriate note at the top of the page in question, e.g.:
''Section ] contains text that needs translation into English.''
3. Add a mention on this page.

If the article has been translated, but needs attention from someone approaching dual fluency in both languages:

1. Use the notice {{cleanup-translation}}, which will show up as:
Translation arrow iconThis article contains translated text and needs attention from someone with dual fluency.
Please see this article's entry on Pages needing translation into English for discussion.
If you have just labeled this page as needing attention, please add
{{subst:Needtrans|pg=Misplaced Pages:Pages needing translation into English |language=unknown |comments= }} ~~~~
to the bottom of the WP:PNTCU section on Misplaced Pages:Pages needing translation into English.
2. Add a mention to the section #Translated pages that could still use some cleanup on this page.

Pages for consideration

Sint Jansbrug

German article. Possibly transfer to the German Misplaced Pages ? 152.163.100.8 11:37, 30 May 2005 (UTC)

Not German. Dutch, I think. Redlentil 12:40, 30 May 2005 (UTC)

Yes, Dutch. I may not have time to get to it today, so if anyone else wants to try it, go ahead. I copied it to nl:, since there's no corresponding article there. --Diderot 14:33, 30 May 2005 (UTC)
IMHO Dutch student societies with "about 650 members" are not notable on English Misplaced Pages—particularly when they want us to do their translation for them! Speedy now that it's on nl:.Physchim62 16:30, 30 May 2005 (UTC)
There's a pre-existing link to it from Delft University of Technology. No, it's not a hugely important piece, but there's a lengthy article on Menschen Vereeniging Wolbodo, which is another student society at Delft and has only 100 members. --Diderot 16:37, 30 May 2005 (UTC)
It is in Dutch. it is a students' union advertizing the facilities in its building in a university. 86.135.48.98 16:48, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Vernier GE

French, about the city of Vernier. And probably a copyvio from the site linked to in the text. At the time of this entry it remains to be seen if the contributor isn't still working on the article.--Fenice 08:22, 2 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Mohammad Ali Eslami Nadooshan

I don't know what it says but its been here since April. --nixie 13:44, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Persian; says it's about a writer, translator, poet, etc. born in 1304. Dunno if it's any good. - Mustafaa 17:53, 3 Jun 2005 (UTC)
It is likeliest not Arabic, because it has examples of the Persian and Urdu double-topped K گ to represent the G sound. 86.135.48.98 16:51, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)
A Persian speaker says: "He is well known nationally. They print memorial coverages in newspapers every year about him. I think it should be translated.--Zereshk 04:42, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)" (copied from User talk:Mustafaa)

Image:Carte de la Suède.png

This appears to be in French. It will need some image work, or we'll need to find an alternative for the articles that are linking to it. -- Beland 06:12, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • Image:Map_of_Sweden.gif seemed to do the trick for the two articles that used this Fench-language Commons image. Resolved. Physchim62 01:02, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • The problem, for me as an editor on the Sweden page, is that we used to have that image (in fact it is already in commons as Image:Sweden from cia.png and used for instance on the page Stockholm). But I put in the French version because it is superior, apart from having some names in French. --Fred-Chess 00:44, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

June 6

Julio Cavalli

Page in Spanish. It's a bio page for a university professor, it seems. Will probably need to be wikified after translation. --red 21:43, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • I went through the original automated transaltion, improve it a bit. It seems to me that this is a very vanity and biased page. PErhaps a vfd would be in hand. drini 19:08, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
    • No, I think we can do something with this one. I will try to improve it this weekend. Physchim62 21:04, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • Improved it even more. Seems like an authority on Eneagrams(I don't know what that is). I'd like to delete the Spanish, let the English and leave a attached page with the Spanish at the talk.--Jondel 01:52, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • I have transwikied the Spanish text (after cleanup) to es:Julio Cavalli, and spruced up the English a bit. Physchim62 08:55, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

June 7

Miriam Yeung

Written in Chinese by an unknown user. Whether it qualifies for translation remains in doubt, as most of its content are supificial, sometimes naïve, and biased towards the singer. -Carlsmith 02:10, 7 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Koga-ryu

Looks to be in Japanese still. Daniel Case 03:31, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

  • copyvio from marked accordingly.--Fenice 22:03, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Duli Yang Maha Mulia

Appears to be lyrics for the state anthem of Selangor in Malaysia, so I presume this page is in Malay. Smerdis of Tlön 18:38, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Hungarian cs

Hungarian. It's supposed to be on the letter of the Hungarian alphabet but who knows. DopefishJustin (・∀・) 04:26, Jun 9, 2005 (UTC)

Farabundo marti

The whole article is in Spanish and the title is probably wrong (Martí should be capitalized and put accent mark). Could also be a ripoff. KeyStorm 21:12, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Yup. It's a copyvio, but we really ought to have an article on Farabundo Marti. --Diderot 21:24, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)
(And, as it is turns out, we have one at Farabundo Martí. It's just not very good.) --Diderot 21:26, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

10 Pãezinhos

In Brazilian Portuguese. Seems to be about a fanzine. --cesarb 22:52, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Slawi

I have no idea what language this is in. It looks like it's probably a copy and paste from another website. Postdlf 03:15, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)

My guess is Bahasa Indonesia or something related. DopefishJustin (・∀・) 04:40, Jun 10, 2005 (UTC)

Translated pages that could still use some cleanup

Pages listed here are "mostly done" but could still use some attention from someone who approaches dual-native. Please use the notice {{cleanup-translation}} on the page.

Surudi Milli

Surudi Milli, the national anthem of Tajikistan, needs translation (which should be either following or side-by-side with the Tajik lyrics).

  • I tried contacting the Tajik Embassy to the United States, but got no reply. -- Graham ☺ | Talk 00:10, 28 Sep 2004 (UTC)
  • I've linked the article to a translation I found on the web. I also removed the article from this Pages needing Translation category. I didn't paste the translation into the article itself because I'm unsure of the copyright issues involved... if someone's more knowledgable about copyright than me, feel free to address the issue. Andyabides 04:49, 7 Dec 2004 (UTC)
    • Nope, that's link goes to a page that translates the national anthem of Kazakhstan, and that site's page on Tajikstan does not include a translation of the national anthem. -- Jmabel | Talk 07:41, Dec 7, 2004 (UTC)
      • We now have several transliterations, but still no translation. -- Jmabel | Talk 23:28, Dec 24, 2004 (UTC)
  • I'm to give it a try.--Downtownee 21:29, 14 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • I chicken out. no time.--Downtownee 22:17, 8 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Melihate Ajeti

Now a decent slightly-more-than-stub. Some material that was left in Albanian has been moved to the talk page, translation and inclusion would be welcome. -- Jmabel | Talk 04:22, Oct 30, 2004 (UTC)

Ada Kok

Machine translation from nl:Ada Kok; real translation still wanting. - Andre Engels 15:15, 20 May 2005 (UTC)

  • Appears basically done now but could still do with some cleanup. SteveW | Talk 18:38, 22 May 2005 (UTC)
  • A load of business report cruft as can be heard infinity times in business board etc meetings and management science matter. Not notable. Anthony Appleyard 17:37, 6 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Audrey Eu

Has been translated, but still has a cleanup-translation tag on it. Might need some further attention. Sietse 07:01, 23 May 2005 (UTC)

MSPROJECT 2003

Portuguese. Appears to be junk, although I can't be sure. Sarge Baldy 16:12, May 19, 2005 (UTC)

Ragnarok Online

Portions of the article (especially in the second half) need some serious attention. It's clear that parts of the article were translated from another language (probably Korean), but the quality of the translation is quite poor. I believe that someone with fluency in both Korean and English could be of help. 172.148.43.59 10:18, 9 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Cofradia

Honduran town. Looks pretty much OK, but still has a request for help on it. Physchim62 10:27, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Korean actor. The Awards section is still entirely in Korean. Physchim62 10:40, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Palestinian National Anthem

This page has already been here, but it came up again at Misplaced Pages:Translation into English with a request for a review of the translation. Volonteers, anyone? Physchim62 11:37, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Roberto Jefferson
