Northern Cyprus, officially the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) (Template:Lang-tr) (KKTC) is a de facto independent republiclocated in northern Cyprus within the internationally recognised borders of the Republic of Cyprus. The TRNC declared its independence in 1983, nine years after the Turkish invasion of Cyprus following a Greek Cypriot coup that was backed by the Athens Junta against the President of Cypru
