Barnstar

The Barnstar of Anonymous Contribution
I hereby award you, the anonymous contributors hailing from 156.34.0.0 - 156.34.255.255, with The Barnstar of Anonymous Contribution, for the unsung and thankless service you have rendered unto Misplaced Pages, in your countless minor edits and bigger contributions over time. They have made a difference in our community and hopefully retelling this event to the barmen you encounter may bring forth the odd free beer to wrap in your hand. Thanks!--Alf 14:23, 3 April 2007 (UTC) and Bubba hotep 14:24, 3 April 2007 (UTC)
tears, smiles, waves to the audience as he walks down the podium, kisses losing IPs on the cheek. 156.34 is a team of bored librarians(and the occasional vandalising student...but we'll ignore them). On behalf of the "library crew"..we thank you for the token of Wiki-appreciation. 156.34.142.110 14:35, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

Actually, this has more historical significance than appears on the surface. You see, this is probably the only Barnstar young Alfred has given out this year (something about losing the keys to the cabinet or something) so, as such, is rare indeed. Guard it with your life. ;) Bubba hotep 14:49, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

I've swallowed the Barnstar key :) . Twenty years ago...in a bar in Halifax...I met Lemmy. He's not a very big man but his presence in the bar seemed to cast a veil of fear and trepidation over all the bikers and longshoremen in the establishment. With great anxiety I walked up to him and struck up a brief conversation about A) That I was a fan and B) That Motorhead's music really meant a lot to me.( I had tipped a few I expect I sounded like an idiot). Lemmy simply smiled/grunted/said thanks and clinked my glass. If I can stand up to him....Misplaced Pages vandals are easy. Have a nice day. 156.34.142.110 15:01, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

User talk vandalism

A dick on Libs' talk page!

Haha, I noticed you had another vandal come round these parts and offer his comedic changes to my messages. "Just thought I would pop dicks" - What a kind I.P. address you had vandalising you! Has that been sorted now? Btw, I thought I messaged you a few days ago saying something... I said thanks and said a bit more about that renegade admin, I also mentioned something about this Republican I.P. address that only seems to make discussion page edits. He seems to, usually, only add discussion to fairly controversial topics such as Global Warming. They're usually POV and crap, so I have so far either removed them for being off-topic or pointed out that he and his source are wrong . He has made a bunch of those sorts of claims on other liberal-orientated articles. I don't know if he can be classed as a troll as such but he still seems like a prick. Are people allowed to only make discussion edits? He also made a stab at Britain on the Glasgow Bombing article discussion page which duly irritated me. I wanted to rip into him for that but just removed it for being off topic. Well anyway, I really did think I left a message like this already... maybe there was a database lag or something and it didn't let me... How are you getting on, anyway? Take care! Hooah! Scarian 14:14, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

hehe, awesome picture. Here is the follow-up warning I gave the I.P., can you check it to make sure it's okay and not out of place? Cheers Lib's! Scarian 15:19, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

New place

Hey Libsey, just woke up and got your message. I did as you said and did a redirect (I hope I got it right, I haven't done a redirect in a while). Yeah it was a crappy article... I'm not sure on Misplaced Pages music policy but I, too, wouldn't class that as a genre. All it is to me is just a guitar, no where close near a genre. Thanks for your comment on Ms.Starr! I 'prodded' her and will do as you say and AfD it ASAP . Thanks for all your help, Libsey! Have a good day! Scarian 08:17, 11 September 2007 (UTC)

WOW that was fast... thanks. Wiki is loaded with "genres that are styles and not really genres". There should be a project for that. WAIT... I think there is... but they're useless :D . 156.34.142.110 12:48, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
I knew I screwed up some how... damn me and my capitalisation. Could you check it now for me? I still don't know if I have done it correctly. Scarian 14:50, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
I guess I was able to do it. Since the RD was created it was simly a matter of a spelling fix. Thanks for your help. Ahoy! 156.34.142.110 15:39, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Now look at List of rock genres. 90% of them aren't genres... just styles. One of Misplaced Pages's most glaring weakness in the wiki-music realm. It's because there are too many young/musically impaired editors creating those types of goofs. Wiki won't be created in a day. Eventually all the stupidity will be gone.... around 2028! 156.34.142.110 15:42, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
I'll be so old then... I have a nasty fear of ageing. Oh, about asking that guy to maybe create an account: I've seen lots of other editors try and get IP's to grab accounts so they don't get caught with the IP blocks! So did you want me to go through that article and clear all the shite out? Or shall I leave it to you? :-D Hooah! Scarian 16:03, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Nah. There's only 1 IP range that's trustworthy in this whole encyclopedia. All the rest are dinks and should be banned :D . did I say that? And I myself have decided I am going to start an account... again. If I can get 25 different barnstars from 25 different Wiki-admins.... I promise I will start an account. And my name will be Libs :D. That's not too much to ask for is it? :D Have a nice day! 156.34.142.110 16:12, 11 September 2007 (UTC)
Wow! 25? Would it be possible to bribe admins into giving you barnstars? Or does that not count? I'm sure Alfred the Great could be persuaded into giving you another 24 barnstars or so...? :-D Have a good day, friend! Hooah! Scarian 11:44, 12 September 2007 (UTC)
Nope it has to be from 25 different admins. And to be fair I will count the double award from Alf and Bubba as 2. So 23 others must praise and worship me :D .(see how much I really care about getting an account :D... it just ain't gonna happen) OH... and it has to be 25 different stars too... not just RickK's Anti-V star(I can earn get them in my sleep :D ) Have a great day! 156.34.142.110 12:26, 12 September 2007 (UTC)

I will give you three guesses as to what that fellow is up to... Your call. What to do? Scarian 17:12, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Hm. Bring him up at WP:ANI... see what/who bites. They, so far, aren't here to edit/improve anything. 156.34.142.110 17:38, 13 September 2007 (UTC)
Bam! He's gone :-D Cheers! Scarian 18:26, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

Hooah! You got it. Carol Kaye will never be crufted whilst I'm around ! Wow, 4000! I can barely keep an eye on 100 and most of them are crappy school articles where students run in and say how notable they are on the alumni section's... Always fun. I once saw Corky go to a school in southern England (!). :-D Take care. Scarian 15:06, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Not Sure What Went Wrong

Sorry to bother you again but if you have a minute can you have a look at and see if you can figure out what's gone wrong with the references at the bottom of the page - numbers 26 onwards are all horribly merged together. Thanks. Kelpin 18:42, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Done and dusted. Scarian 18:55, 14 September 2007 (UTC)

Hallo...

I didn't do much... Just sat around and read a book... stared at my computer for a while itching to check my watch list just "one more time"... I don't drink and I'm not a Canadian so I can't enjoy the things that you enjoy :-D - Hehe. Anyway, for your attention when you get back: - Blowback from Little Walter.
- A discussion started by Ariel on something that I think you'd be interested in. About the credits section in the Carol Kaye article?
Have a good one, pal! Scarian 00:18, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I left a message earlier on your other I.P. (just in case you switched comps). When I got in from college I realised that I hadn't slept so all anti-van. duties are up to you today! Take care and have a good day troll crushing! Scarian 14:53, 17 September 2007 (UTC)
I will do my best :D . !! Have a good day off. 156.34.142.110 15:38, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

About the list

Well I was thinking last night about how the article can be improved. Is there something like the feature found in windows? when clicked expands into something, I couldn't find a better description for it. I was thinking on the lines of adding a description about the bands from the thrash metal point of view, keeping the page uncluttered at the same time. I hope you have understood what I am trying to say. Weltanschaunng 15:49, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Well I have added a new feature to the list, I have made it expandable. I have done so for the metallica entry as of now. have a look. Weltanschaunng 12:39, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism

Thanks - I'll keep an eye out for edits from that range and I've added the Hooters to my watchlist (though I'd never even heard of them until 5 mins ago - I'm sure though that's due to my ignorance - their cv looks pretty impressive). I don't use pop ups. Most of my editing is done from work (I work about 13-14 hours a day and need the odd 5 min break to stop the monotony), and most pop ups are blocked on our IT system. Kelpin 15:52, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks again. I've added it to my watchlist, I just also found what looked like the same editor (small change to the Infobox - also from the 77 range) on the Bernie Leadon page. Kelpin 16:55, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Haha, are you recruiting everyone to help you, Libs? hehe, anyway, our 207.xxx. I.P. is back again but I am not 100% certain on whether his edits are bad or not: . Hooah! Scarian 21:38, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Saw it. It was just spam links and WP:MOS ignorance. All clean now... plus a little extra tidying while I was there. 156.34.230.90 22:12, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Your friend(s) are back on the Eagles, Randy Meisner and Glenn Frey articles. You might want to have a look at user:75.66.9.165 recent edits - he's just undone a load of your edits - I've reverted the Randy Meisner ones but I wasn't sure on the rationale for the others so I've left them for you or someone who knows more about these matters than I do to have a look at. Kelpin 18:01, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

That was a fancrufter who was trying to turn the Shawn Lane page into a worship shrine. He doesn't like having his uncited content removed so he's taken to stalking. All of his reverts have been reverted by either admin J. Smith or the noble Funeral(formerly Bucketheader) So all os right with the world. :D . 156.34.142.110 18:21, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for your help too .... BTW... didn't mean to forget you :D 156.34.142.110 18:31, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks

I saw you'd been reverting a lot of vandalism. Thanks for the work you've been putting in. :) - Mark 17:19, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

You're welcome. Thanks for the thanks :D . Have a nice day! 156.34.142.110 18:51, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Oh damnit! You were so close to getting a barnstar from another admin! Roll on no. 3!! Scarian 09:51, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Ehh... it probably would've been a boring ol' RickK anyways.. :D . I want a defender of the Wiki or a tireless contributor... or even, GASP, a Socrates star! y'know... one of those other other uber-anal BS tokens. GEEZ, y'woulda thought someone would've showered me with music Barnstars by now...!!!!...
I want a Barnstar made just for me... The "LIBS" Barnstar awarded to anyone who "turns up the GOOD, turns down the SUCK" on Misplaced Pages. :D 156.34.142.110 12:20, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
If it was a music Barnstar wouldn't it be called the "Twinkle Twinkle Little Barnstar"? Kelpin 12:35, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Boo! Gosh I knew someone would crack out the puns! :-D Scarian 12:38, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Sorry I have a 2 1/2 year old son and my sense of humour has regressed to match his since he was born. (On the plus side though he does like some of my Neil Young albums. Hopefully he'll inherit my musical taste and not my sense of humour. Kelpin 13:19, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
My 10 year old likes Johnny Cash and Black Sabbath and my 7 year old likes Rush, The Beatles and Tommy Emmanuel. I'm a GOOD Dad! :D . As for me, right now I am listening to Rossini. It will be followed by J.J. Cale and then probably some Elmore James or some Bert Jansch. If I'm driving through rush hour traffic... Motorhead. 156.34.142.110 14:15, 20 September 2007 (UTC)
Your 7 year old might want to check out the Planet Rock (radio station) website they're in the middle of Rush month and there's a minisite there dedicated to the band. You can listen online to the station too but not sure if it works outside the UK. (Rush are a band that completely passed me by until January this year after I started listening to PR - I now have 3 of their albums and next time I go to a record store I'm going to look for "A Farewell to Kings". Kelpin 07:49, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

No, no... you guys have got it all wrong. Your kids need to be listening to things like Opeth or Dimmu Borgir. Rather than all of that tuneful, nice and generally good stuff like... gulps ...The Beatles... :-D Scarian 08:06, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

I tried listening to Opeth once - a track came free with Classic Rock magazine and at least 1 of the band has played on some Porcupine Tree albums PT being one of my 4 all time favourite bands I thought I might like it. 30 secs into the song my ears started bleeding! BTW The Beatles aren't my cup of tea. (They are better than a lot of bands but don't do much for me). Kelpin 09:00, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
I saw Rush for the first time when they were on their 2112 tour. I saw them again on their Hemispheres tour, Permanent Waves tour and their Hold Your Fire tour. They have always been my favourite band(along with several other close seconds) I like PT fine enough and I like Opeth too. I also like Miles Davis, Hank Williams, Beethoven and John Coltrane. All music is good(as long as it's not corporate cookie cutter teen pop Robbie Williams/Spice Girls/Boybands shit or Hip hop/Rap) Being a librarian is the greatest career anyone can have. Along with access to hundreds of thousands of books... we have over a hundred thousand pieces of music right at our fingertips. My own personal collection of albums numbers over 5000(and I don't steal from my workplace :D ) I don't get hung up over musical styles. To me The Beatles sound exactly like Black Sabbath... both are just good music. Slayer sounds just like Jim Croce... both are just good music. Yngwie Malmsteen/Steve Vai/Joe Satriani are shredders... but so is Liona Boyd and Tony Rice and Earl Scruggs and Sam Bush and Jerry Douglas (and poor Yngwie, Stevie or Joe can't play half fast as any of those country or classical players :D ) As long as its not corporate Pop/Rap crap.... all music is good. I always say forget styles... Reigh in Blood and Master of Puppets are known as 2 of the greatest heavy metal albums of all time... But Miles Davis' "Kind of Blue" album kicks a thousand times more ass than those 2 albums combined. Speaking of which... I think Bitches Brew is in order for my mornings listening. Maybe followed up with Blackwater Park! I love my job! 156.34.142.110 12:19, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

Opinion

Found this one by random Talk:Global energy assessment. It's definitely copied from their own site. And, also, a google hit gives up 2 related hits about the article (One from Misplaced Pages, its own article. And the second from its own website. The rest of the hits are just about global warming from unrelated companies). So, atm, I think it's down for WP:NN and WP:Copyvio, agree? I have prodded it but didn't know whether to go the whole hog? Opinions? Thoughts? Take care. Scarian 10:49, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Oh, and guess what I just saw in the contribution history? :-D - The user who created it is called: GEA IIASA. The name of the company and it's parent, haha. Shooting for deletion. Scarian 10:53, 23 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: He's at it again

At least he respects WP:ALBUM#Genre this time. I've left a note to him about moving references out of the infobox. --PEJL 05:36, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

refs=clutter. If they are diffusing some kind of edit war I can see the justification. But when the field has been in a long term dormant peaceful place... sticking the refs in is more of a 'nah-nah-nah-come-n-get-it' sort of edit... almost an invitation to try and start an edit war. Mr. S is under particular scrutiny right now in a possible blocked user sockpuppetry type of situation so when I see his edits I pay particular attention to them... more for suspect-sock-style than actual guideline faux-pas. But if he is starting to follow the rules.. it's a good thing. While I have your attention could you review some of the recent edit summaries from this user... who seems to want to skew a few GL's in his own POV-ish sort of way. I agree that no consensus was set in stone. But there was certainly more "constructive" feedback to avoiding the ugly <br>'s while the negative arguments were simply just "I like 'em and you can't do nuttin' about it... so there". + WP:FLAG might as well be a policy... pretty much every admin who owns a music article (did I say own?... Admins don't 'own' anything do they :D ) sticks to WP:F)cruft like it's a law. Thanks for your input. Have a nice day! 156.34.142.110 12:28, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I don't know what else to do. I argued the case for commas as best I could, but that didn't seem to convince that editor, or many others. If I recall correctly his position was that either line breaks or commas should be permitted, so I don't know how he justifies a revert of a change from line breaks to commas. --PEJL 15:28, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
Not being too picky... I was more peeved that he didn't even look completely at what he was doing and re-added a re-direct link that I had taken the time to fix. 156.34.142.110 16:01, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
He's been doing some good work lately. This for example seems to be almost entirely in line with the album guidelines. --PEJL 16:51, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
He always seems to be able to pump out some decent edits. It's when he mixes it with his own personal opinion that he seems to slip up. Admin Cholmes75 and I are still watching for him to slip up and possibly reveal a nastier side that has been stalking Mr Holmes and editing from multiple IP ranges. If they aren't the same person... they're twins... or living under the same roof... or something. He's one of those editors you just wish would fly the narrow path and not try to push personal agendas. That being said... he certainly gets a high edit count in. 156.34.142.110 17:34, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Re: Non-notable reviews

I think the criteria for reviews isn't really WP:N, but whether the reviews are written by a staff as opposed to by an online community. I've looked at Okayplayer, and their FAQ seems to suggest that they have a staff, but they also seem to have an online community. It's unclear which group writes the reviews. If I was trimming reviews for the new ten-review limit, this would be one of the ones I would cut. --PEJL 06:36, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Beatles genres

Your edit summaries said you reverted the changes by User:87.7.232.131 (which changed Rock and roll to Rock), but in fact you did not (you changed it to Rock, Pop, Rock and roll). I assume you meant to actually revert those changes, so I've done so. --PEJL 12:53, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

No, it was A) meant to rm incorrect genres and B) add-in the correct ones that apply to those particular albums. While I have your attention... you do know that when you lower case the first letter in the word of the genre it makes it a re-direct link rather than the cosmetically better straight pipe to the intended article. Why does the guideline direct users to purposely create a re-direct? 156.34.142.110 13:01, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
OK. Your edit summary said that you were undoing the previous change though. You should probably change the edit summary in cases like this, to avoid confusion. As for redirects, I don't understand what you mean. The links rock music and pop music do not redirect. --PEJL 13:09, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
I guess they don't?... they used to though... I know I didn't hallucinate it?? must get more coffee... must get more coffee... must get more coffee :D .
Another "while you're here" question. Since we've been discussing blues-rock anyways perhaps you can tell me... why is it hyphenated? There are a couple of other hyphened genre names too but this one always puzzled me. If it were a combination of two words that were both distinct genres unto themselves... like say... blues-jazz... then the hyphen would make sense. But this is a combo of "genre-geological entity". So the hyphen is for ???.
Care to dialogue? My biggest peeve about Misplaced Pages music articles... specifically genres has nothing to do with spelling. It has to do with the fact that Misplaced Pages does not distinguish between genre and style. Example: Rock(Rock music) is a genre... celtic rock is not. It's simply a "style" of the parent genre - Rock. Shock rock is an excellent example of a "style" gone horribly wrong on Wiki. Take a band like... say... Kiss. Their look is "shock". Their over-the-top stage performance is "shock". The way they perform their music onstage especially is designed to "shock" or excite. Same thing for Alice Cooper. And their band/artist infobox could contain the Shock rock as a description of "Style" But "shock rock" in reference to the music... just the music all by it's lonesome... doesn't make any sense. It's not a "music" genre. It's a combination of elements that create an overall "style" that is known as "shock rock". Can you see where I'm coming from. If you take Alice Copper's "Killers" album... stick it on a turntable... and play it for someone who has absolutely no idea who he is... what he's done.... what he plays... what he looks like... etc. And you ask that person... what kind of music is this?" They aren't going to say... "Oh that's shock rock!". To that person whose never heard the music before or seen the performer... the music is simply "rock" or "heavy metal"(if one wants to get a little more specific). That's the difference between "genre" and "style". And Wiki overlooks it completely. Shock rock can be in an artist infobox... albiet incorrectly as a genre and not the more correct "style"... but it should never appear in an album infobox... ever. In describing the music and not the look of the one performing it... why would "shock" be used to describe the music. The nusic itself... does not "shock". Glam metal isn't a genre... it shouldn't be listed as one. It's simply "heavy metal" played by an artist whose "style" is that they dress up in shiny clothes and wear make-up to make themselves look like a woman :D . Take away "the look"... take away "the style"... and the genres would be so much simpler to maintain on Wiki. Look at the List of rock genres. Who many of them are actually genres??? Not very many. "Styles" of the parent "Rock music"... is applicable to a great bulk of them. Not "true" genre. I am suprised this debate hasn't arisen at the Wiki-genre project. The WP:MUSIC project as a whole really. IF Misplaced Pages is supposed to convey information in an accurate way.... then music wise... this entire foundation that all of Wiki's music articles is based on is fundamentally wrong.
It's so far gone that it will likely never be reversed. Huge edit wars have taken place in Wiki music articles over the simplest of all subjects... the dreaded "Genre" field. Escpecially hard rock/heacy metal related articles. If, way back when, the distinction between "genre" and "style" were set up as user choices. Then the edit wars could have been diverted... slightly. "Style" can be fought over forever. "Genre" is concrete. Art rock - Christian rock - Desert rock - Detroit rock - Experimental rock - Garage rock Glam rock - Hard rock - Heartland rock - Instrumental rock - Jangle pop - Krautrock - Post-rock - Soft rock - Southern rock - Surf rock... yadayadayada.... they're all just styles of "rock" plain and simple.
Here endeth my peeve.... phew... coffee time :D. 156.34.142.110 14:11, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Rock music and rock music don't redirect, but Rock Music does, perhaps that's what you were thinking of? As for actual genres, I'm the wrong person to discuss these with. To tell you the truth I've always found classification of music into genres or styles quite uninteresting. But that's clearly just me, given how many editors have very strong opinions on the topic. ;-) The only reason I edit genres is to reformat them. As for why blues-rock is hyphenated, I've always wondered the same. --PEJL 14:26, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

As someone who's been a fan of Rush much longer than I have could you have a look at this edit - it completely changes the meaning of the paragraph - however neither the statement nor the one it replaced are cited so I have no idea which one is more accurate. Perhaps you know of a Rush book / article which would confirm one or other statement? Kelpin 17:02, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Wisdom89 already caught it. It was pretty much just a cotton candy contribution. Some people thinks Neil Peart's lyrics have the power to save the world. I've met Mr. Peart on a couple of very brief occasions. I believe him to be one of the most gifted percussionists I have even seen. And a true artist when it comes to lyrics... in a class all by himself. He is also a little bit stand-offish, snooty and arrogant. And if I was that good I would be too I guess... :D. 156.34.142.110 17:45, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah - I was actually curious as to which version was correct myself! I'd assumed it was the ambiguous one but on the Planet Rock Rush mini site they say that its intended to show the Priests crushing the resistance. I'm impressed that you've met Mr Peart. Not sure that his lyrics have the power to save the world but I do think they have a touch of genius to them. (Never met anyone that famous from the music business myself). Kelpin 18:47, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
Forgot to say - if you get a chance look in on the Eagles article tonight (I'm logging off now) its been vandalised 5 times today (that I know of). Not sure why its suddenly come under attack like that. Thanks. Kelpin 18:49, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
I noticed that. I will likely be around later on. 156.34.142.110 19:18, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
As it happens its been left alone by the vandals since I posted that message! I see what you meant the other day about the level of vandalism on here. Someone vandalised the Studley article the other day. Its only a village, and where I grew up - I was amazed it even had an article on here. I doubt if anyone visits it most days, makes me wonder how many other articles there are with vandalism on that doesn't get noticed for days, or weeks? Kelpin 13:43, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

I saw a brief discussion in the Hockey Project about keeping a better eye on the player pages as one hockey player bio claimed the player had "played in the NHL for 9 seasons, had an anus for a mouth and the genitalia of a 12 year old girl". The page had been in that state for over a year. You win some you lose some. The most important thing is not letting it get to you. I browse the RC page and I use a script to highlight pages from mu old user watchlist. I see other changes among the RCs that I just KNOW are likely to vandalism. Sometimes I rv them... sometimes I don't bother to look and just hope someone else does. Wiki is just a hobby. I've watched many many "Wiki-friends" quit/retire/walk away in frustration over what happens here. That's the key... don't let it get to you... don't think about it when your not actually editing.... don't plan your next "Wiki-moves" while you're eating dinner with your family.... Vandalism happens every single second. Every minute that goes by = 15 new user accounts set up to do nothing but vandalise Wiki... Oh well. School IPs that commit 50 acts of vandalism in less than 5 minutes... will be blocked for 1 hour instead of permanently... Oh well. Wiki has 2M articles... 90% of them are junk. Oh well 156.34.142.110 15:11, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

And it's people like us trying to make them shitter better! I've estimated that 3/5 of my edits have been reverting or correcting vandalism... Wiki-life is depressing... Always a perpetual battle in which hardly any vandals get indef. blocks... Damn... Scarian 15:54, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
Remember what I told you a long time ago about my old user account? Over 20000 edits and half of them were vandalism warnings. It's just a hobby. Turn up the good, turn down the suck... and remember to walk away from it every now and then and don't think about it. It's all we can do. 156.34.142.110 16:42, 28 September 2007 (UTC)

Opinion

Do you think opposing an RfA with the reason, "I don't think the user has the need for the tools" is alright? I've used it a couple of times and then User:Acalamari wrote somewhere that it was "irrelevant". I asked her why she thought this and said there had been "discussion" which made the reason now "considered irrelevant". Considered doesn't sound like a policy binding word to me. What'd you think, Libsey? Should I not use reasons like that anymore? (I mean if the guy at the RfA so blatantly just wants to piss around with a bunch of extra buttons, I gotta use that reason, right?) Scarian 23:42, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

It's funny... thinking back I probably only voted on about 25 RfAs.... and I never took the time to oppose anyone.(usually any candidate I opposed was already an overwhelming oppose by everyone else so I thought... why bother?) I know that on any of my support votes... my wording was extremely brief. "per nom" - "good candidate" - "give him the mop"... etc etc etc. So coming up with wording for an oppose is something I never really thought of. If you give an honest reason(backed up by evidence) that an editor shouldn't be an admin.... then that is OK by me. I see nothing wrong with you given reason for opposition. I suppose, if I were to oppose anyone I would have done it with a ref to a specific policy/guideline(WP:CIVIL, WP:DICK, WP:OWN etc) and then probably added in 1 candidate edit link to back up my policy link example.... and that's it.... voting finished from Libs. Remember who your talking to... 15 different editors/admins prompted me on my talk page to let my name stand for RfA and 15 times I said thanks but no thanks. Are there days I wish I had the toolbox?... pretty much every day... are there days I regret not becoming an admin... nope. did I answer your question or did I just do a "pre-coffee-morning rantage"? :D 156.34.142.110 14:06, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Re: FYI

Thanks for the heads-up. --PEJL 05:14, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Support or Oppose

Was I supposed to support or oppose? I was just thinking that Iron Maiden is much more well known than a torture device. Tell me if I'm wrong, Libsey! If you think I should support then support it shall be! Hooah! Scarian 11:59, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

HAHA! Following Alf's decision??? Thou must thinks for thyself :D . My post was just early morning trickery... if you truly oppose then that is your decision and that is fine. I was just being a smartass because if I were allowed to vote I would've voted support. Iron Maiden are a band... and it is a torture device(a very famous one at that thanks to Bill and Ted). And with that... following most Wiki tradition the band's name would get (band) tagged onto the end of it. Like Saxon vs Saxon (band) or Japan vs Japan (band). It isn't that way 100% on Wiki though so there is some precedence set that (band) doesn't always follow a disambig band name. Look at U2 for instance. Not having (band) after Iron Maiden makes the assumption that anyone coming to Wiki and searching for iron maiden will, most likely, be looking for the band. In my humble opinion an encyclopedia should never make assumptions about anything. If it were me... both Iron Maiden and U2(and all others) would have (band) after their name. But that's just me.... if you disagree then that is perfectly absolutely totally great... because that's what Misplaced Pages is all about. Sorry for the ruse.( although it did give me a good chuckle and I nearly passed an entire cup of hot coffee through my nose :D ) Have a nice day! 156.34.142.110 12:03, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Why thank you... I now have discovered my sole purpose on this planet... to pass coffee through the nose of a Canadian Motorhead loving Librarian. I'll get you one day! See you in an hour or two Libsey. Have fun! Scarian 12:08, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
My rationale (apart from believing the majority will be looking for Iron Maiden (the band) ) is more along the lines of - it's not broken, moving and dabbing means hundreds of edits to fix all the links that will have been broken in the move. That's a lot of work fixing something that isn't really broken.--Alf 12:57, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
And that's perfectly OK too. I seem to recall it was a dab before it went "direct"... I am not sure where the debate fired up again. If an editor takes the time to spell the band name with Caps then they should go directly to the page. Being lazy and using all lower case... and still expecting to get the band... well!... they should be punished for that by getting straight piped right to the spikey chamber. :D . It's like Eagles vs. eagle... it's a band if you add the 's' onto the end... a noble bird if you leave it off. And for that page if someone sticks a "THE" in front of the band name(major faux pas) they should get redirected to Dumbass :D . 156.34.142.110 13:35, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh and one more thing before I pop off... After looking through the edit history of the Cradle article I noticed that the I.P. (Either in 60's or 80's range - can't remember) may not have changed all of the yanky 'is' to 'are's so I could do that when I get back. See you buddy! Scarian 12:17, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I just happened upon that one because of the WP:ENGVAR vio on the IM article. I never read it through completely. Does the average CoF fan even possess any grammar/spelling skills... enough to make it worthwhile copy-editing the whole article?... I kid I kid :D . 156.34.142.110 12:35, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

I don't mean to be the amateur Wikipedian here but what's a "dab"? Scarian 13:43, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
WP:DAB... when in doubt... just stick a WP: in front of it. 156.34.142.110 14:00, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Further to that... and following Alf's train of thought... one could ASSume that most editors coming to Misplaced Pages and searching for rush would be seeking the band. So type rush into your search box and hit Go and see what you get. 156.34.142.110 14:03, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Hell-p

Dunstable - A new user keeps trying to add in this non-notable resident into Dunstable. He says she was in the local paper which thus makes her notable, apparently. I have removed it, twice, stating that she either requires her own article and/or a citation proving why she is notable. I do not wish to do it a third time for obvious reasons. Could you point out the guideline (I have forgotten it) for notable residents please, Libsey? And/or provide me with some back up if he reverts again? Thanks in advance! Scarian 17:37, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

I checked and your version was still standing.
ALF I have made an observation that I won't post on your talk page but perhaps you will read it here...
Someone's not right in the head... if you know what I mean. You may respond to this observation on your own talk page and I will read it there if you do. nudge nudge. 156.34.218.130 23:44, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
Hahahah - Don't be so superficial! Apparently he's 9 years old and "he doesn't like vandals one bit...". Scarian 23:51, 3 October 2007 (UTC)

Is/Are

- A little bit of blowback from that whole fiasco of is and are. Any advice on how to deal with that would be appreciated! Thankyou! Scarian 12:01, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Thoughts

It is a self-promo piece of crap but the author of the article has made it difficult to track copyvio. Evidence of copyvio from the guy's own site (Second link down), and at least one paragraph off of his own site is copyvio . I'd want to delete it, would you agree? Scarian 15:07, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

I'd gladly say goodbye to it. 156.34.142.110 15:10, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
P.S. - I like long hair, but his is just too long... Do you think I should include that in the reason for a deletion? Scarian 15:12, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Done and dusted. I didn't see the lock in the right hand corner, are you sure it is/was protected? Scarian 17:31, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Edit: Oh wait. Saw it when I clicked on "Edit this page". Sorry! Scarian 17:33, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Score!

Darren Curtis Skanson is no more ! Score for my deletionist unofficial mentor :-D Have a good night, friend! Scarian 22:26, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

One piece of shite gone.... 1.5 million pieces of shite still left on Misplaced Pages. Will will have this conversation again. Thanks for leaping in. 156.34.142.110 13:43, 5 October 2007 (UTC)
