Admin?
I haven't taken the time to think about it yet. My initial reaction is to say, no. But I will have to think before I give my final answer. Like Bartles and Jaymes used to say, "Thank you, for your support." Dincher 23:16, 25 September 2007 (UTC)
- I have thunk and I have accepted the nomination. We'll see where it goes from here. Dincher 00:13, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the Welcome!
Thank you very much for the welcome page you gave me on my talk page. It really helped me.
- I'm not a computer person, so all of this formatting stuff is very new to me.
- I was wondering if you could check out my page and see if I did it correctly. I welcome any criticicm or advice you might be willing to share with me.
Thanks again. NatalieOne 17:06, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
Old Loggers Path
I started Old Loggers Path. The Delaware state parks are almost finished. Haven't heard anything about the admin stuff. Dincher 00:31, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the DYK idea. I will wait until you expand it, you could go ahead and nominate it too if you wish. Do you have a pic of it? I have looked at the current RfA stuff. I am beginning to have my doubts. I don't know if I want to divert attention from working on articles. I have dropped many articles from my watch list because I got tired of reverting silly stuff. Dincher 01:33, 28 September 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for expanding and nominating the Old Loggers Path and the heads up on Choess' comment. I will look at it now. Penn State has broken my heart again. Oh well. Dincher 20:14, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I decided to get the list up and running. It's been sitting in woodchuck for too long. Still needs work. Maybe someday we'll get it to FL. Dincher 23:37, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
- I think I remember hearing about Plunketts Creek Township in Sullivan County. The reference looks like a great project, possible, for me to expand Sullivan County's history on wiki. The Masten article looks good too. I keep thinking about your note about the tree and the leaf. The way things are going, Plunketts Creek (Loyalsock Creek), the article, is going to be as along as the creek! Dincher 00:24, 1 October 2007 (UTC)
- The info boxes are a nice mindless project to undertake. I will be adding more as the days pass. Termites are evident in our crawl space. Orkin and Terminix are on the way. War shall be waged and Vengance shall be mine. Dincher 03:02, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Hello again
Check your email. BTW, I'm very close to White Clay Creek Preserve and White Clay Creek State Park, and will happily provide pictures from there on request. I'm not the greatest of photographers, but I have (IMO) a nice picture of the Forks of White Clay (Middle and West Branch) in the park in early morning — let me know if you'd like me to upload it. (This is directed at you, too, Dincher, since I know you're reading this.) I also have plans to work on overhauling Bellefonte Central Railroad; I have Bezilla & Rudnicki's book, and with that I think it has FA potential eventually. Best to you and Dincher. Choess 03:16, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
- Oooh, that's a tricky one. The atlas shows the Cascade township spur as coming down from the S&EM entirely within Lycoming County. After some twisting and turning in which it runs generally southward, it splits in three at a point marked "Cascade"; one spur goes east into Sullivan, turns a horseshoe south, and gets back across the county line before ending; one spur runs a little ways south; and one runs some distance west and is marked "Salt Run". The text says only that the spur was built by Central Penna. Lumber in the 1920s (after they bought and standard-gauged the S&EM) and abandoned in 1930, and that is is "where the Cascade-Hillsgrove road is now". captures part of the line; it looks like it came in too far north to reach Plunketts Creek proper. Choess 19:04, 30 September 2007 (UTC)
- BTW, what software do you use to process/compress your digital photos before uploading? I have a nice picture of the Forks of White Clay I'd like to upload to Commons, 2816x2112, but it's 2.87 MB, which seems awfully large. Should I just be cropping more, or what else should I do? List ideas
Your list ideas sound fine and dandy to me. Go for it! The map too. Dincher 00:10, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- Not sure what you mean here, "Also I was wondering about making the footnotes in the column header for the ones that have the same ref for all the entries (like ref 1)." I will probably understand after you make the mentioned change. Dincher 00:21, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- I really like the map ideas. And now I understand the refs too. Dincher 00:54, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
Mom is coming to NC starting tomorrow. I will be very busy, probably not on wiki very much. Have a good one. Go Indians. Dincher 04:20, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

- I must have got a dozen dozen mosquito bites getting that pic. Posted lots of others on the commons for Fort Fisher State Recreation Area. Thanks for the comp. Dincher 03:21, 9 October 2007 (UTC)

DYK for Kinzua Bridge?
I wrote an article for the Kinzua Bridge in my sandbox to nominate for DYK. Dincher suggested "...that Kinzua Bridge in Pennsylvania at Kinzua Bridge State Park was the world's largest and tallest railroad bridge at the time of it's construction in 1882." and said that I should run it by you. Any thoughts? --Dtbohrer 02:12, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- I like it, but it sounds like that the state park was created after the bridge fell. Is that true? There's no mention of that in state park article. --Dtbohrer 03:29, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- Sure, that works. Thanks for your help. I'll let you know how it goes. Good luck with your FAC. --Dtbohrer 03:50, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ruhr, I finally scanned those images of Kinzua Bridge in, I added one to the bridge article, didn't see much room in the park article. Hope they're good enough for ya. All four are in Category:Kinzua Bridge on Commons. IvoShandor 12:02, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
- Heh, I even got to conquer it, as you can see from the overhead of the creek, that was from the middle of the bridge basically, and though I have been to PA multiple times since, I only visited the bridge once. IvoShandor 16:50, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks on the DYK
Thanks Ruhr, that photo was such great luck, I couldn't believe how stupid my luck was that day. I got this one in Pontiac, Illinois at the Pontiac City Hall and Fire Station, a site I haven't written up yet but that link will go from red to magic blue soon enough. I was touring part of U.S. Route 66 in Illinois and apparently there was a big Route 66 festival thing in Springfield, so everyone was driving there in their hopped up classic cars, it was pretty neat. Geobox 2 and rivers
Template:Geobox2 news Hi, I've updated the Geobox code and hopefully fixed all bugss you reported, please check here: User:Caroig/Plunketts Creek 2. Most locations and coordinates should get displyed OK now, the lines shouldn't be broken anymore (but IE is always full of surprises). The reference indexes aren't mixed anymore; it wasn't a bug but it was simply caused by the fact the Geobox 2 template orders some fields differently: the indexes were generated in the order they were entered in the page which was different from the diplay order of the new Geobox template. So one only needed to rearrange the fields in the text (there's an automated tool under development which does this among other fixes, however it doesn't support rivers yet). The only issue might be the split name, well, this is the way the Geobox 2 template works, to help anyone distinguish what's the proper name and what's a general word. The full name gets displayed in the article title, you might also want to use the official_name field of the Geobox. I would have forgotten, the mouth coordinates are now linked to the automated locator dot as requested (in all maps). FYI, instead of generating a new map you might have used the manual map_locator_x and map_locator_y fields of the Geobox to place a locator dot. If anything doesn't work as it should, let me know. – Caroig (talk) 19:10, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
List troubles
Help! I am trying to add Featured List to the PA wikiproject class ratings. Whatever I am doing is not working! I created this page, Category:FL-Class Pennsylvania articles it needs to be deleted speedily. I am giving up and have asked for help on the template talk page. Dincher 22:24, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. Will look at the Lycoming list now. Dincher 00:08, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
I've been working on the formed froms. I'll let this wait. The list is all yours my friend. Congrats on Larrys! Dincher 00:37, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
- Ooohhh. I didn't know two people could work on the same article at the same time. I shall get to work! Dincher 00:54, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

I think that the list is ready to go through peer review, but it would probably be best, for you, to wait until after Larry has been on the main page. I am sure that you will be working hard on it. Dincher 01:23, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- I am all for taking out. I think that it is more hassle than it is worth. I will also take a good look at Larry, probably Sat. night. As for the list to PR I am ready if you are. Dincher 20:49, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for submitting the list. I've been busy IRL. Dincher 17:02, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
I am fairly confident about the success of our new list for PR and future FL. It's one of those "leaves", but I know that it is well written and follows the form of the state parks list. Dincher 21:20, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

Copy edit: Black Hawk War
Hey there Ruhr, hope things are well out in PA. I was wondering if you might lend your eye to Sinsinawa Mound raid and Plum River raid to provide a little outside copy editing assistance. I had put in a request with our usual copy editor Cricketgirl but she seems to be on a hiatus, I also requested from another user but it has been awhile for both and I haven't seen any response. I know it doesn't sound like fun but the articles are short and could use and outside eye or two. IvoShandor 23:02, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks Ruhr, whenever you have time, it usually takes at least a couple weeks to get a review at GA (if we're lucky we'll get one in a few days but I am not crossing my fingers). IvoShandor 04:23, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
- I have looked at Sinsinawa Mound, I think I addressed things as needed, at least as much as source material would allow me to, if you have a shot take another look. You need me to look at something, one of those many things you are working on? Let me know.
- PS: I haven't really looked at Plum River yet. IvoShandor 22:51, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
Larrys Creek
Compared to today's FA Knights Templar, Larrys Creek takes a loooonngg time to load. This is probably because of the "convert" template. Also the borough link is used when a more specific borough (United States) or even the stubby borough (Pennsylvania). More thoughts to follow. Dincher 22:28, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
- Hey man, it looks good! Congrats. I'll keep on eye on it next week! Dincher 22:42, 13 October 2007 (UTC)
- I think I will leave a few little notes on the talk page. :)IvoShandor 22:54, 13 October 2007 (UTC)

I am sure that Larrys Creek is more than ready. I'll take a look at your latest additions tomorrow. Why did Ivo quit? Dincher 02:17, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
I'll do it ... I was going to ask you if you wanted that, actually.
Re the preferred metric measure for land area: Supposedly the SI calls for km² to be used exclusively, and for any measures more than 250 acres I always use them. You're supposed to use square meters for less than a square km (although most of the SI purists here use 0.x km², at least down to 0.1 and then start using square meters.
I prefer hectares as the metric equivalent for the 2.4-250 acre range because I think people prefer measurement units that are (when a choice is available) easy to express in whole numbers for commonly-used small amounts of what's being measured. Square meters, like square feet, are better for interior area measurements where you're dealing with man-made level surfaces where "square" is intuitive. A square kilometer is a million square meters ... rather large to get a grasp on. I find 0.x decimal measures similarly ridiculous ... I can visualize a square kilometer better than, say, 0.7 km². The best argument there is that, in metric-using countries (i.e. most of the rest of the world), land in parcels smaller than that 1 km² is sold (usually) in hectares. (It's still used as the primary unit of measure for farmland).
There is still some disagreement on this yet. Daniel Case 15:14, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Copyedit is mostly finished. I found a number of citations needed; I imagine you have them and it is just a matter of putting them where they belong. I took a lot of the bridge stuff out because it's in the bridge article now; one of those edits removed a ref which is sticking out later in the article.
I left an detailed summary of my changes on the talk page. Managed to shave about 4K worth off the article. Daniel Case 04:58, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Cogan House Covered Bridge
Wow! Great job. I didn't know the geobox could work for buildings too. You did that today? I may give you another barnstar.
I found that the free fields in the geobox could be used to add NRHP info (year added, ref #). We've been looking for solutions for how to handle RHPs and NHLs that are PAs, bridges, skyscrapers etc., where there's an established infobox for it already. This may well work.
I've added it to the bridges and NRHP projects. I will list it as a new article there (Consider joining WP:NRHP if you can do this sort of work on houses and other old buildings in your area of PA). Daniel Case 18:54, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
FL Main page proposal
You either nominated a WP:FLC or closed such a nomination this year. As such, you are the type of editor whose opinion I am soliciting. We now have over 400 featured lists and seem to be promoting in excess of 30 per month of late (41 in August and 42 in September). When Today's featured article (TFA) started (2004-02-22), they only had about 200 featured articles and were barely promoting 20 new ones per month. I think the quality of featured lists is at least as good as the quality of featured articles was when they started appearing on the main page. Thus, I am ready to open debate on a proposal to institute a List of the Day on the main page with nominations starting November 1 2007, voting starting December 1 2007 and main page appearances starting January 1 2008. For brevity, the proposal page does not discuss the details of eventual main page content, but since the work has already been done, you should consider this proposal assuming the eventual main page will resemble either an excerpted list format or an abbreviated text format. The proposal page does not debate whether starting with weekly list main page entries would be better than daily entries. However, I suspect persons in favor of weekly lists are really voicing opinions against lists on the main page since neither TFA nor Picture of the day started as weekly endeavors, to the best of my knowledge. Right now debate seems to be among support for the current selective democratic/consensus based proposal, a selective dictatorial approach like that used at WP:TFA or a non-selective first in line/calendar approach like that used at WP:POTD. See the List of the Day proposal and comment at WP:LOTDP and its talk page.--TonyTheTiger (t/c/bio/tcfkaWCDbwincowtchatlotpsoplrttaDCLaM) 18:57, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
- Have you chimed in on this one yet? I like the idea and don't really care if they are voted on or first come first serve. Can't we all just get along? Dincher 20:38, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Rain
Rain is measured in inches in the U.S. How is it measured in the rest of the world? I am working on Gorges State Park home to a temperate rain forest. Can't find this info. I am guessing that it could be measured in cm. Am I correct? Dincher 22:37, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- millimeters? Wow! I remember thinking that mm's were pretty much useless when I was in school. Only good for measuring tiny things. Why in the world would people want to measure rain in mm. Oh well, people probably wonder why we measure in gallons, feet, yards, etc. Thanks. You're right about some of the lists. zzzz Dincher 23:08, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
Cogan House Covered Bridge
Great article! I found it very interesting to read. Perhaps one edit is needed in intro section: if it is the only bridge on the given creek, how is it one of a handful that survived a flood? You could clarify it is one of a handful of what, bridges anywhere in Pennsylvania, in the county, wherever you meant. Please visit List of covered bridges in New York and consider fixing up any of those, the articles sure need it and maybe the bridges are not all too far away for you. Keep up the good work. doncram 17:38, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- I also liked the article - thanks for creating it. I wouldn't sweat it that it took a long time -- after all, Misplaced Pages isn't on a deadline. (That's good, because my to-do list keeps getting longer.) Keep up the good work. --Elkman 18:32, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
- Shame, shame, shame you forgot to highlight Cogan House Covered Bridge at the DYK nomination page, tsk, tsk. It's done=) and the article looks good! Dincher 21:04, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
