NY 154 was deleted on May 14, 1980 . The route originally followed Campbell Avenue from its western terminus at US 4 in Troy, next to Burden Pond. Route 154 then followed Spring Avenue, crossing NY 66 at Pawling Avenue, before leaving the city.
After Troy, the route was designated Rensselaer County Route 130 until it reached the segment that was absorbed by NY 355, Main Street of the hamlet of Poestenkill. This portion of NY 355 bears NYSDOT Reference Markers for NY 154, until NY 355’s terminus at NY 351 in the hamlet.
Beyond 351, the original route became Rensselaer County Route 40, which takes a winding path up the mountain alongside the Poestenkill Creek. After reaching its highest point, it descends to the valley as Plank Road, and the hamlet of Berlin. It intersects with Main Street, which may have been a former routing of NY 22.
