Kevin Federline |
---|
Kevin Earl Federline (born March 21 1978), is an American back-up dancer, model, actor, and rapper, best known for his two-year marriage to pop star Britney Spears. Federline lives in a rented mansion in Tarzana, California.
Biography
Early life
Federline was born in Fresno, California, to parents Mike, an auto mechanic, and Julie, a bank teller. Federline has a brother, Chris. His parents divorced when Federline was 8, at which time he moved to Carson City, Nevada with his mother and brother. When Federline was 11, he and Chris moved back to his father's Fresno house. Federline dropped out of high school in the ninth grade, but later earned a GED.
Career
Back-up dancer
Federline has been a back-up dancer for a number of years for Michael Jackson, Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani, Christina Milian, and other entertainers. He first met Britney Spears while he was dancing for the group LFO.
Rapper
Federline's previous single, "PopoZão," was released on New Year's Day, 2006. He released his debut album, Playing with Fire, on October 31, 2006 to poor reviews, and lackluster sales.
Model
Federline has been signed to model for the Five Star Vintage line by the San Francisco-based Blue Marlin clothing company. The initial series of ads ran in August 2006, and was subsequently extended for Holiday 2006. The line he modeled for the Fall 2006 was the top selling line in Macy's, Kitson in Los Angeles and Lord & Taylor.
Television appearances
Federline co-starred with Spears on the 2005 reality television show, Britney & Kevin: Chaotic, which consisted of home videos shot by the couple. He also appeared in the 2004 movie, You Got Served. Federline subsequently guest-starred as a street hoodlum in an episode of CSI that aired on October 12, 2006 in the USA and Canada. He also guest starred on the NBC show 1 vs 100 along with the cast of Las Vegas, which aired December 1, 2006.
Federline was featured in a Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company commercial during Super Bowl XLI on February 4 2007, as part of its "Life Comes at you Fast" ad series. In the commercial, Federline initially appeared in a music video rapping about living a high flying lifestyle. Then, reality sets in as Federline is shown now working in a fast food restaurant with his manager yelling at him, the punchline of the ad being "Life comes at you fast."
Professional wrestling
Federline appeared on the October 16, 2006 and October 23, 2006 editions of WWE RAW, in which he got into kayfabe (fake and/or scripted) physical altercations with WWE Champion John Cena. The following week, he came to the ring to aid Johnny Nitro in his match against John Cena. After Cena got in Federline's face, Federline slapped him extremely hard. He appeared again during the November 5, 2006 pay-per-view event Cyber Sunday, hitting Cena with King Booker's World Heavyweight Championship belt and helping Booker retain his title. The next night, November 6, 2006, he challenged Cena to a match at the New Year's Day edition of RAW, which Cena accepted. He would go on to win this no-disqualification match, thanks to interference from Johnny Nitro and Umaga. Later in the night, after John Cena's main event match, Cena went after Federline and brought him into the ring and then delivered his FU Finishing move, and another one after the cameras stopped rolling.
According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Federline was well-received backstage. Sources say he worked so well with the company and personnel, that the WWE may give him a regular role on the company's show RAW in the near future. Other sources and wrestlers have spoken about Federline's generally good attitude backstage, as well.
Personal life
Federline had a relationship with Shar Jackson. Their daughter, Kori Madison, was born July 31 2002.
Federline and Britney Spears began their relationship while Jackson was pregnant with Federline's second child. This prompted Jackson to comment that, "it wasn't like just breaking up a relationship. It was like breaking up a family." Federline's and Jackson's son, Kaleb Michael, was born July 20, 2004.
When Federline's relationship with Spears became widely known, the tabloid media gave him the moniker "K-Fed". Although loath to use the nickname publicly, Federline has used it in his music. He displayed his disdain for the media creation of the K-Fed name during an episode of WWE RAW where he said, "Come January 1st K-Fed is dead, Kevin Federline will be whooping Cena's ass".
Federline is noted for his marriage to American dance-pop superstar Britney Spears. They married on September 18, 2004. They have two sons, Sean Preston (born September 14, 2005) and Jayden James (born September 12, 2006).
On November 7, 2006, Spears filed for a divorce, citing irreconcilable differences. Federline was in Toronto, Canada at the time promoting his new album for the Canadian music station MuchMusic. Federline immediately counter-filed court papers seeking spousal support and sole custody of the couple’s two children.
Federline and Spears's 60-page prenuptial agreement, prepared by Hollywood attorney Laura Wasser, apparently entitles Federline to US$300,000 per year for half the number of years the couple was married. Under that formula, Federline will be entitled to US$300,000 from Spears, since they were married two years. Federline will also receive 50% of the proceeds from the sale of their Malibu home, and will be allowed to keep any gift received from Spears under US$10,000 in value.
On December 4, 2006, MSNBC reported that Federline set up a home for himself and his family in the Hollywood Hills. Star magazine reports it is a 6,300 square-foot, five-bedroom home.
Federline maintains a friendly relationship with Jackson. On January 12, 2007, Jackson reported, "He's a great dad and if you said his name right now, Kori would go crazy. That's the love of her life." Asked about their daughter's special bond with her father, Jackson answered, "He was there for her every minute of her life until, you know, we weren't together anymore. He did everything for her so I guess that's why." As for Jackson's relationship with Federline, she says, "It's not really hard because we were friends even before we were romantic and we were friends through being romantic and there was no reason to change that."
Federline maintained an equally positive relationship with Spears until their divorce was finalized on July 30, 2007, meeting with her several times over the summer of 2007. After their divorce became final, Federline returned to court to seek primary custody of the couple's two children citing Spears' reported erratic behavior in public. On October 1, 2007 a court ruling granted him physical custody of his children with legal custody to be decided. He is currently living in a rented mansion in a gated community in Tarzana, CA. He maintains a relationship with Britney's parents for the benefit of the boys and they have been photographed in and out of his home and babysitting the boys while Kevin was out of town.
Satire
Federline's stage name of K-Fed and status as the ex-husband of Britney Spears was ridiculed by some media commentators, who labeled him "Fed-Ex" after the package delivery company FedEx.
