Cities subproject

I am pleased to announce that as of today, every city, town and municipality in Germany has an article in English Misplaced Pages! A big thank you to all contributors!

In the next phase of the subproject cities, we will improve the articles by adding infoboxes. Everyone is invited to help. See Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Germany/Cities for instructions. Markussep 18:51, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Interwikiproblems

Currently the German Misplaced Pages has a handful of editors who have decided that they want to get rid of interwikilink to articles on other wikipedias that they consider substandard. After their vandalism ran into opposition by the larger community they resorted to hiding interwikilink using sockpuppets. When that failed they started making WP:POINT edits like this (That editor in question was actually recently blocked for his vandalism on dewiki). I will need some help in tracking down further attempts like this - The above user has made the same edits also as IP. If you come across any more please let me have the diffs - thanks. Thanks for the heads-up. Olessi 21:33, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

Regierungsbezirke

Shouldn't Category:Regierungsbezirk and Category:Former Regierungsbezirk be retitled, as categories should be in plural form? ie Category:Regierungsbezirke or, if translated, Category:Government regions of Germany. Olessi 22:15, 29 October 2007 (UTC)

The parent category is plural so I think it would be consistent to make it plural as well. Why not stick it on CfD and let the experts decide which version to use (sideeffect: a bot will do the legwork of making all the alterations) Agathoclea 23:31, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
I opened up a CFD discussion at Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 November 1#Category:Regierungsbezirk. Olessi 21:08, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Category:Germany articles needing images largely redundant to Category:Misplaced Pages requested photographs in Germany?

It seems wasteful and higher maintenance to have these two categories largely duplicating each other. The latter is more consistent with hundreds of other similar categories for countries and regions, so I suggest that the former should be merged into the latter - this would require a change in {{WikiProject Germany}} but not a massive amount of work. I'm tentatively proposing they should be merged at WP:CFD; I suppose an argument can be made for making a distinction on the grounds of the name of the former category having a wider scope than the latter (to include biographies etc; also the former says "images" but in practice it appears in almost all cases this just means "photographs") but I am sure that just using the latter category for the lot won't be too confusing. In any case, both categories are rather large and should probably be subcategorized - I wonder if this can be done by editing {{WikiProject Germany}} so that instead of just saying that a photo is required, a photo subcategory could be specified in some way (e.g. writing "in Berlin" as a template parameter and the template then adding it to a Berlin photo required subcategory). That's just a suggestion - the CFD nom is here. This is in no way an act of aggression against this project :p Just wondering if this would cut down maintenance and make the categories easier to use. TheGrappler 20:15, 1 November 2007 (UTC)

Depends on how much work it is. Anyway I made the infobox generated a subcategory of the other some time back. If that change is coming it would be an idea to tag the articles in the topcategory for the wikiproject as I believe there are qutie a number still in there which are not tagged yet. Agathoclea 15:47, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Please see Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion/Log/2007 November 17#Category:Germany articles needing images. I have relisted the 1 November discussion to allow more time for the details to be worked out. When an agreement is reached, please note it at the CFD, so that it may be properly closed. Hesse-Rotenberg

Can't seem to find any mention of Hesse-Rotenberg, or of a Duke Hermann of Hesse-Rotenberg. I need to verify is a historical person, at the least. Thanks // FrankB 02:41, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Mention of a Landgrave of Hesse-Rotenberg (and his English wife) at the University of Sheffield-Hallam and the University of Nebraska. --Boson 07:14, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Landkreis Aue-Schwarzenberg

I have been busying myself translating articles about every municipality in this district into English from the German Misplaced Pages, but there is one little technical problem that I would like some help with. Whoever uploaded the images for de:WP apparently neglected to upload them to the Commons. Could someone do that, or otherwise make them appear in en:WP?

I would do this myself, but I'm working through a proxy from China and it can be glacially slow, and moreover, it sometimes won't let me download images if the file is too big.

Thanks. Kelisi 14:52, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

could you place the filenames of the images in question here in the form of de:Bild:imagename.jpg. Agathoclea 19:30, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Articles categorising Turks in Germany

The following was placed in Category:Germany articles requiring maintenance. Comments? Suggestions? - 52 Pickup (talk) 16:36, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Not sure how to report that correctly, but there is a Category:Turks_in_Germany and an article Turks in Germany and a List of Turkish Germans which could be merged together in a way. Why are all articles that contain a "List of Turkish People in..." in the Category:Articles_for_deletion. There is no article with the Kategorie:Deutsch-Türke in the german wikipedia, most of the articles categorize them as german or turkish or both. For example is Fatih Akin, a german with turkish roots because he was born in Germany and is a german citizen. Maybe better tag someone like him with Category:German and Category:People of turkish descent. And maybe with Turks in Germany. What do you think? (JohnWulgaru 00:03, 16 November 2007 (UTC))

I would say that some similar subjects have been discussed at CfD recently, but I can't remember the outcome. There are now quite a number of German politicians/musicians of Turkish nationality/decent which in my opinion would make sense. Agathoclea (talk) 20:42, 17 November 2007 (UTC)

Opinion please-which name for Bohemian and German queen and empress Anna von Schweidnitz?

A specific group of people on wikipedia dictated translation and usage of nearly all central/eastern European names in Polish language. Anne of Swidnica is just one of many, where a German Holy Roman Empire queen http://en.wikipedia.org/Talk:Anne_of_%C5%9Awidnica#Empress_Anna_von_Schweidnitz is featured in Misplaced Pages with a Polish name.

The particular Misplaced Pages absurdity with this person is, that google books has over 600 books with Anna von Schweidnitz, 300 Anne of Schweidnitz, yet Misplaced Pages shows her as Anne of Swidnica, which has 1 -o n e- entry on google book search. Wondering 18 November 2007

PS it does not even work with regular English letters Anne of Swidnica, but only with Anne of Świdnica

We all like English letters like ü, ä, ß, etc., but not Polish ones, right? Space Cadet (talk) 02:43, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
P.S. Swidnica should work, we need a redirect.
