He is the current headcoach of the San Antonio Spurs and guided them to NBA championships in 1999,2003, and 2005. He won the NBA Coach of the Year Award in 2002-2003.
He is one of only five coaches to win three or more NBA Championships.
Popovich was a 1970 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
