Causal dynamic triangulation (abbreviated as "CDT") invented by Renate Loll is an approach to quantum gravity that like loop quantum gravity is background independent. The upcoming loop 2005 conference hosted by many loop quantum gravity theorists will feature CDT in much greater depth as it appears to have a good semiclassical description.
