Super Bowl XL is the 40th Super Bowl, championship game of the National Football League, the major professional league of American football. The contest will be played on February 5, 2006 at Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, home of the Detroit Lions, and telecast on ABC in the United States. With the expiration of current television contracts among ABC, CBS, ESPN and Fox following the 2005 season, the game will be the final telecast for ABC after thirty-six seasons with the NFL. Al Michaels and John Madden will be in the broadcast booth for the game, and it is expected that ESPN's Chris Berman will host the lengthy pre-game show.
