Mark Warwick Speight, born in Wolverhampton, England is a British TV presenter. He is best known for presenting the BBC children's art programme SMart.
Biography
Speight has a degree in commercial and graphic art. He is left-handed.
Television presenting
Speight has worked on numerous shows for the BBC, CITV and The Discovery Channel. The programmes he has presented have ranged from children's TV to adult factual programmes. Speight has hosted the series Beat the Cyborgs, SMarteenies and the Saturday morning show Scratchy and Co, and has made appearances on Blue Peter, The Saturday Show and The Heaven and Earth Show. He is probably best known for presenting SMart, which he has hosted with various co-presenters since it began in 1994.
Other work
In 1997 Speight appeared for the celebrities on the "Celebrities vs Jockeys Special" of the ITV show Gladiators, and was also a contestant in Celebrity Wrestling, which aired in April 2005. He is highly involved in various charities. During the Christmas period, Speight usually becomes involved in pantomime, and performed in Cinderella at the Watersmeet, Rickmansworth in December 2007.
Arrest
On Thursday January 3, 2008, Speight was arrested in connection with the death of his fiancée and former co-worker, Natasha Collins, whom he found dead in the bathroom of their London flat. He was released on bail the next day, until the first week of February.
The Metropolitan Police released the following statement: "Police were called at 13.20 on January 3 to reports of a sudden death of a woman at a residential address in St John's Wood. The woman, aged in her 30s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A man in his 40s was arrested at the scene. He has been bailed to return to a central London police station on a date in February."
The BBC have since suspended broadcast of shows which feature Speight.
