Thanks for the thanks! :)

Hi,

The feeling is mutual (although, to be honest, I can't recall that we've disagreed on much of anything, and if we did, I'm probably wrong!) As for the present case, bigotry almost always intersects/overlaps with stupidity. I can't decide which of these evil forces is most at work here; but, the matter seems headed for the proper outcome. One wonderful consequence of Misplaced Pages's global community is that hatred is much more readily exposed and condemned here than it is in this idiot's America. Best wishes, Xoloz 03:08, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

What is meant to be and what is not...

Thank you for your recent comments and vote at my Request for Adminship. It was not successful. I don't believe this is unfortunate as it leaves me with much to ponder and a fresh slate from which I can better myself as an editor in order to be more compliant with the policies that are expected by Misplaced Pages.

If you feel that there is anything that was not covered by the RfA that I need improvement in, I would implore your input and feedback as I hope and intend to improve as best I'm guided.

All the best in your own endeavours in the real world, and also when you're not on Misplaced Pages. lincalinca 14:36, 2 November 2007 (UTC)

Elevation (psychology) --Emesee 00:48, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

I believe this is the ultra-shorthand version of "How dare you delete my article?" — Emesee is the latest incarnation of Remi0o (talk · contribs), the original creator. As with most of Remi's contribs, I think this one veers way over the WP:FRINGE precipice quite aside from being a pure dicdef, but I've offered to userify it if he's able to improve it.iridescent 03:27, 3 November 2007 (UTC)

Deletion of my text on Socjalizm (Poland) political organization

You've deleted the above mentioned article because of lack of the references. Right now it's impossible to find any references, as the group hasn't been described anywhere apart from its own website. I can, however, swear that the info given is true as it's based on my own experiences. I kept it totally neutral so that it can't be considered a propaganda article or so.

Furthermore, I think that the described organization is absolutely worth this article. If there's an article on IMT sections in another countries, why not this one?

Starkey International Institute for Household Management

I object to your closure of Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Starkey International Institute for Household Management as delete. One, what BLP concern? If you mean the sentence "Some students, former Starkey employees, and several wealthy clients have criticized the program and its owner", this was cited to Warner's article at the bottom. If you don't consider him a reliable source, just remove the offending reference and sentence. Deleting the whole article is an overreaction. Two, as to notability, the institute received significant coverage from multiple, reliable sources. How does it not pass notability? In addition to the sources cited, there is this article in The Times. Three, where's the consensus to delete? That debate did not produce consensus of any sort. Please restore the article and send it to a proper afd. Picaroon (t) 02:24, 7 November 2007 (UTC)

Please see Misplaced Pages:Deletion review/Log/2007 November 8. If consensus determines I wrote an "attack page", I'll resign my adminship and leave the project. If your deletion is overturned, I'd appreciate an apology at the very least. Picaroon (t) 02:10, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

No one expects a Pigman admin!

Wallowing in my RfA: This time it's personal...
My sincere thanks for your support in my request for adminship, which ended with 51 supports, 0 opposes, and 0 neutral. Doubtless it was an error to put one of the government-bred race of pigmen in any position of authority, but I hope your confidence in me proves justified. Even a man pure of heart and who says his prayers at night can become a were-boar when the moon is full and sweet. Fortunately, I'm neither a were-pig nor pure of heart so this doesn't appear to be an imminent danger to Misplaced Pages for the moment. Fortunate as well because were-pig hooves are hell on keyboards and none too dexterous with computer mice. If ever I should offend, act uncivil, misstep, overstep, annoy, violate policy, or attempt to topple the fascist leadership of Misplaced Pages, please let me know so I can improve my behaviour and/or my aim. I am not an animal; I am an admin. And, of course, if there is any way in which I can help you on Misplaced Pages, please do not hesitate to ask me. Despite my japes, I am indeed dedicated to protecting and serving Misplaced Pages to the best of my foppish and impudent abilities. I will strive to be an admirable admin, shiny and cool, reasonable and beatific. Pigman/trail 05:25, 8 November 2007 (UTC)
Post Scriptum: I believe my collaged graphic at left, which incorporates the WP globe and mop image, falls under the rubric of parody for my purposes here. Or is it satire? Regardless, it's a legitimate and legally protected First Amendment usage under US law. Complaints and allegations that this is an improper "fair use" image will be entertained on my talk page, probably with fruit juice, finger food and exotic coffees.

a suggestion

I suggested you withdraw this nomination, and consider being less hasty when nominating articles for deletion in future. I have some concerns as to how deletions work on the wikipedia. I have decided to leave what I intend to be civil notes for wikipedians when I have a concern about their action in deletions.

In this case it is your hastiness that triggered my concern. Since LaMenta3 was able to expand the article so quickly, if you did any kind of web search prior to your nomination I am afraid it fell short of what the rest of us should be able to expect of nominators. Nominators let us down when they nominate articles for deletion that are then quickly rescued.

I didn't realize you were an administrator when I made my original suggestion. That shouldn't really matter though, should it? As an administrator, perhaps I should expect you to try to measure up to a higher level of accountability, because you should be trying to set an example?

I think we may have participated in some of the same discussions in the past. But I don't remember any of the details. I have tried to be civil and tactful here. If you don't find this comment civil or tactful, I failed, and you can have my apology for that.

Cheers! Geo Swan 14:58, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I agree. Several of your AfDs just closed as "keep":
and several more look like they're headed that way:
I've recently discovered several good tools for notability searches that have saved me a lot of wasted time:

Duchess Marie of Mecklenburg

Duchess Marie was not the highest titled person in Mecklenburg, which was one area composed of two grand duchies (not duchies). Marie was a minor member of a grand ducal family. The highest titled people in Mecklenburg would have been the Grand Dukes of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and Mecklenburg-Schwerin and their wives, who were grand duchesses. "Consensus tends" doesn't mean a thing when the articles contain nothing which merits notability. Indeed, notability does not exist here. Please delete the article or tell me right away so I can start an AFD and get it out of the way. Please note Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Princess Victoria Marina Cecilie of Prussia and Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Prince Jean of Nassau. A family (Mecklenburg) may be notable as a whole, but individual members may not. This is the case with Duchess Marie. Charles 01:49, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Members of the British peerage hold substantive titles and there is no multiplicity of titles as there is in the German system. We also don't have articles for children of peers that simply state birth, death, marriage and children. Charles 01:55, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Lowick, Lowick, and Lowick

Hi - just a friendly note to let you know that England's geography stubs now have separate templates for each county (all in the form CountyName-geo-stub). If you're going to make any more like the three Lowick stubs it would save a little work further down the line if you used them rather than England-geo-stub. It's no big deal, but I thought I'd point it out if you didn't know about the by-county templates. Cheers, Grutness...wha? 23:52, 9 November 2007 (UTC)

Ah, that makes sense :) Yeah, I must admit to having done the same myself with cut & paste before now. To answer your question, no, I've never heard of Northumberlandshire, and I'm pretty sure it's never used; "-land" has a roughly similar meaning to "-shire", so it would be redundant. The only three counties with an "optional -shire" would be Devon/Devonshire, Dorset/Dorsetshire and Somerset/Somersetshire - and its archaic for the last two (it would be very rare to find either "Dorsetshire" or "Somersetshire" except in historical documents). A redirect for Devon at Devonshire-geo-stub might be useful, though. Grutness...wha? 00:18, 10 November 2007 (UTC)

LGBT WikiProject Newsletter

The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter
The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter!
Issue XI - November 1, 2007

Hey, Peeps, it's that time of the month again (no not that time — get your mind out of the gutter): time for another monthly edition of the LGBT Project's Love Boat newsletter from your cruise director Miss Julie. So much has been happening this month and I just can't wait to tell you all about it!!!

Alice and her harasser

Let's start with some good news: Alice and the project lost the bothersome sock puppet who had been disrupting many articles we monitor, and now most of us can edit in relative peace. Congratulations, Alice, for being able to come out of semi-retirement. Benjiboi, on the other hand, has gained an anonymous IP stalker who seems to be more Catholic than the Pope and who has a hard-on for the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence. We seem to have a sort of Yin and Yang thing going on here, which helps both to keep us in balance and on our toes <bright smiles all around>.

Harry Potter and his homosexual teacher

Albus Dumbledore got outed this month, and was immediately adopted by our project. The international brouhaha surrounding this disclosure reached all the way to Wikiland, and his article was briefly locked due to homophobic vandalism (as well as well meaning editors who just couldn't believe that that nice man could possibly be gay). This is a wonderful article to add to your watchlist, and will surely give you hours of reverting fun on cold winter days.

"My Fellow Americans"

On a more serious note, Fireplace has suggested a new article series about LGBT rights in the United States, state by state. This ambitious topic will surely require many editors and a lot of research, but has the potential to add further prestige to our already prestigious project.

Same name, same sexuality: a riddle for the ages

Francis Bacon (not the new gay one, but the old gay one ... though they're actually both dead, now that I think about it) has also aroused passions here on Misplaced Pages, with editors opposing his sexuality being disclosed in his biography. The always helpful Haiduc has thoughtfully provided any number of sources, but it is slow going getting his point across. Anyone want to lend a hand?

Beat writer arouses Irish guy

And speaking of passions, Jack Kerouac has inflamed the senses once again with editors, including administrator Irishguy, mounting a spirited defense to keep him as heterosexual as possible for Misplaced Pages purposes. Why? I don't know. Perhaps some of you can drop by the talk page and ask your questions there. I feel certain a stimulating debate will ensue that will be enjoyed by all.

Love those Texas Longhorns

Did you know that one of our Featured articles, Lawrence v. Texas, lost its shiny gold star? That was a shocker. It has been suggested that we turn our attention to it in an effort to restore it to its former glory. I took a peek, and it does need our help badly. For our American editors, it would seem almost a civic duty to edit it (not that I'm hinting....).

Point and Counterpoint

Though it was far too intellectual a debate for a mere cruise director like myself to take part in, Intersexuality was certainly a hot topic a week or two ago. The thrust of the debate was over inclusion in our project. Lots of good editors had lots of good opinions. For those too lazy to check out the discussion, we decided to leave it out for now.

Drudgery on offer

Peer review is, as always, short staffed and seemingly unloved. Wouldn't you feel better about yourself and the world in general if you took a few minutes to read one of the listed articles and offer some helpful advice? I know I'd feel better if you did.

"My Fellow Americans" redux

The article LGBT movements in the United States certainly raised eyebrows last week, especially when it was discovered that copyrighted content had been added to our article. Tragedy was averted at the last minute, though, when the original hosts of the article where the material had been pilfered agreed to make it free to everyone. Our thanks to them, whoever they are. Busy Bee that I am, I haven't had time to read it, but I'm sure it's sensational.

This month's Wiki stars

Lesbian pulp fiction (a genre close to my heart, I must confess) writer Ann Bannon has decided to spice up the featured articles candidates list this month. Why not drop by and make your opinion heard? Joining her in this lofty aspiration are the articles But I'm a Cheerleader and Conversion therapy. I'm sure their main editors would welcome any comments (well, helpful ones, anyway) on the talk pages or the FAC discussions. And lest we forget, the List of gay, lesbian or bisexual people: Sd-Si became a Featured list!! Rah rah, siskumbah! Go, team, GO!!!!

And the Oscar goes to...

Not content to run for Best Actress, plucky Bannon won a Best supporting actress Oscar... whoops, I meant to say Ann is also getting more than her share of womanly attention on the Good Article list. Joining her on this exalted plane are Freddy Mercury, Waylon Smithers and Lance Bass. Good articles indeed, and the last one mentioned just goes to show that one needn't admire the subject of an article to appreciate the effort put into making him worthwhile reading. What on earth Britney ever saw in him I'll never know. Truly a riddle cloaked in an enigma and wrapped around a puzzle.

Fresh faces to brighten our pages

Though I may not be the first, let me extend a warm, LGBT Love Boat welcome to the 12 new members who joined us in October: Jliberty, JockCub360, ChristopherEdwards, Desiderius82, Zlrussell, Kelsied, BeardedWoof, Mujerado, Tyrfing, Fabgurrl, Redl@nds597198, and decafdyke! Whatever you choose to do here, I feel sure that your contributions will enhance our project to no end. And if they don't...well, let's just say that I'm not shy.

Leather and lace

On a personal note, your already overworked cruise director is being cyberly whipped almost daily by Nemissimo, who desperately wants to get the German BDSM translation copy edited and used as a replacement for the current one. It's such a ... err, stimulating topic that I am sure many of you will want to join the copy editing fun. Jump right in, folks! It's so lonely copy editing it all by my lonesome!

Late breaking news

A little birdie just whispered in my ear that our noble collaboration project was delisted from the Community Portal due to inactivity. When asked how this scandalous turn of events could have occurred, the answer I received was "we suck at stuff like that". Well. In the first place, I disagree that sucking should be considered a negative, but to each his or her own. In the second place, I have full confidence that we can and will collaborate with other projects in the future. So let's not view this as a setback (even though it is), but rather a challenge to improve (and good Lord, I sound almost Wikipedian!).

Champagne dreams and caviar kisses

Lastly, the holidays are rapidly approaching. Our American cousins are currently getting ready to slaughter masses of poultry in an effort to show their gratitude and generally peaceful demeanor, and those of the Canadian persuasion, trendsetters that they are, celebrated a bit early this year. I'm sure all us foreigners will join together in wishing them all a very happy Thanksgiving on their respective holidays, both already celebrated and forthcoming... though I would hope somebody would enlighten me as to why they don't celebrate it on the same day. I was awake all last night trying to figure that one out.

In the spirit of this peculiarly North American holiday, let me take a moment to thank all of our editors for their contributions to this project. It's people like you who make people like me...well, a "people person"! May all your Wiki days be bright, and may your Love Boat never turn into a Poseidon.

Kisses,

Miss Julie

DVINE

This article was deleted because I didnt not assert its importance. Well the artist has worked with famous Dr. Dre protoge Knoc-Turn'al. His first single is actually with Knoc-Turn'al. This artist has opened for several larger artists in the DFW area, most notable from the DSR group and Knoc-Turn'al at a concert at Joe Pool Lake in Arlington, Texas. I also noticed i was not the first person to create an artice about this artist, which to me says something as well. The artists popularity is rising at an exponential rate, and his debut album due out in the next few months is supposed to change the way people perceive rappers from texas

Robin Hood's Grave AfD

Hi. I think this is an article on a valid subject, so I've rewritten it from scratch. It's no longer the dreadful, confused mess you rightly put up for deletion and it now has sourcing. Would you mind taking a look at the new version and consider withdrawing the AfD nomination since I believe the page is now acceptable by Wiki standards? Cheers. --Folantin 12:28, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

Hunters Brooke AFD

Hello! Thanks you for deleting my hard work and time, I apologize if this article may have seemed as a “attack page” but it wasn’t, if you looked at the citations you would have seen that “Patrick” and five other assailants were involved in a white separatist gang that was planning to burn down Hunters Brooke. Also, if this is the state worst residential arson fire then I find it imperative that the article is restored. For it is an article in progress. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Daven200520 (talkcontribs) 08:23, November 15, 2007

RfA for Canadian Paul

Four years ago this day, a foreigner was voted by the community to serve a land that he loved. Today, a new foreigner humbly accepts the charge and support of serving a community that he loves. Hopefully, he won't disappoint.

Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed with a vote of (47/0/1). Whether you have suggestions for ways in which I could improve, a request for assistance or just need someone to listen, my talk page and my email are always open. Carlos, when you say that cities in Mexico have a legal definition, what is the definition you have in mind? Spacepotato (talk) 01:39, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. I'd like to withdraw my nomination, if you have no objection. Spacepotato (talk) 03:04, 20 November 2007 (UTC) I'm allowing the nomination to run as per the discussion it's not clear that this distinction is useful to the categorization system. Joe Carr (activist)

I am not gere to "protest" but to inquire about this edit: . I have not seen an AFD and wonder when and why the article was deleted. Tnx, Zeq (talk) 06:32, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Hi, Thanks for your reply.

How come I missed an AFD or any part of the process to delete the article ? It is a shame that the ability to discuss the issue was not given. In any case the guy is notable. Very much so. He uses several names (this is why when you search on only 1 version you will find less material) , he was involve in 2 (not 1) cases in which ISM activists were killed by IDF soldiers and he is notable for other issues as well Please recreate the article, including the photo (which to this day is on his own web site) . Thanks. . still waiting for your reply as I can not find any record for discussion about this AFD or delete of the article. Please reconstruct the article and nominate it for AFD as it should have been. Thanks. Zeq (talk) 05:08, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Meagashira

You say it's vanity, but how is it vanity when you look for him here?. I ensure you I am not Eugene van Brakel. The fact that you do not know a dj doesn't alway mean it is an article out of vanity. I'm not asking for a revert though. Just would like to make clear to you that you shouldn't be to quick with your judgment. Mallerd (talk) 08:05, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

WP:MUSIC states that an artist must be played on radio (Has been placed in rotation nationally by any major radio network.) a lot to be notable:
Again, the 9th release in this series featured a huge hit, this time by his alter ego ‘Project Omeaga’, with ‘Prednison-Attack’. Both loved and hated at the same time, this track must have been the most airplayed hardcore track of 2003.
Perhaps you do, perhaps you don't know that in the Netherlands a lot of hardcore is played.
Those other WP:x are not criteria, mere suggestions/degrees of notability. So I don't really see what your problem was, but still: nevermind. Mallerd (talk) 19:43, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

The Bird With the Coppery, Keen Claws

I've found the publication date. It's 1921, so it's not under copyright. The source is Milton Bates's Wallace Stevens: A Mythology of Self. Also there's confirmation in that the poem appears in the Librivox edition of Stevens's public domain works. Normally I have this information when I post a poem/commentary to Misplaced Pages, but I was at my office and away from my books when I did this one. I put up an 'inuse' flag, but evidently I was too slow getting back. Could the page be returned now, please? Rats (talk) 16:41, 21 November 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your vote

Thank you for participating in my RfA, which passed with a vote of (53/0/1).

As a token of my appreciation, please accept this bowl of tzatziki.

I feel honored to be trusted by so many of you. Misplaced Pages is such a large community, that my acceptance in the face of such large numbers truly is humbling. I will use my new tools to continue the tasks for which you entrusted them to me.

The Works

Hi, I noticed that you placed a deletion tag on the article citing that it did not have any source. I addressed your concerns but just because an article stub did not have any sources does not constitute a deletion tag. I was just wondering why you placed the deletion tag on the article where there were better templates to add such as:

This article does not cite any sources. Please help improve this article by adding citations to reliable sources. Unsourced material may be challenged and removed.

Patrolling

I didn't realize they were still 'unpatrolled', since the 'mark patrolled' link disappears after I edit them--don't know why it's that way--rather a pain to go back after the fact. Ravenna1961 (talk) 08:56, 22 November 2007 (UTC)

Category:Surnames

I have started a discussion at Category talk:Surnames about Category:Surnames which I hope will be able to address the issues in common to the surnames category tree, without implicating issues particular to any one group of surnames. I'm posting this notice to all participants of the 11/11 CFD. --Lquilter (talk) 20:47, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Carlossuarez46, I wanted to just say that although I vehemently disagree with your analysis of WP:CATGRS-related issues, it's not personal; on other cat issues you seem to make sense. There's no ill-will on my side & hopefully not on yours. Cheers, Lquilter (talk) 04:50, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Newbie

Hi Carlos, love your userpage description, it's gets right to the point. I was wondering why you agree with keep and salt, that was suggested about the Lizz Robbins page. I'm not quite sure what salt means, still learning. Just a backstory, someone created a page and I tried to edit it, but was not given a chance to do so nor has anyone else. I feel like it's become a personal thing. Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated Knicksfan4ever (talk) 17:07, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

BAMF

I don't think I'm protesting, per se, but asking for a better reason why you deleted BAMF. You say that it had no links, but I last recall there being 2 links on the page. It has been a while, so I'm not sure. could you clarify please? Also, you referenced CSD G6, but I think that there might be some controversy over the deletion, because I have mentioned that the page does (anecdotally) help reduce spam on the Bamf page. comments? McKay (talk) 19:22, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Hmm, the shampoo link must have been newer, the acronym used to link to Dane Cook, as he is reportedly the one who coined the term. There was also a link to Bamf as like a see also, or something. So, those are the two links. See, the Bamf article has been vandalized several times with references to the acronym, and I think that having the BAMF article hatnote at the top, people saw that the content was there, and left Bamf alone (more). Thoughts? McKay (talk) 21:21, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
So yeah, I see where you're coming from, but I don't think the need for it is strong, so I'm probably not going to create it today. McKay (talk) 23:30, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

One of my favorite places Dear Carlossuarez46,

Thank you for supporting in my recent RfA. Words nor pictures can express my heartfelt appreciation at the confidence the community has shown me. I am both heartened and humbled by this confidence. I will carry the lessons learned from the constructive criticism I have received with me as I edit Misplaced Pages, and heed those lessons. Special thanks to Pedro and Henrik as nominators. Special thanks to Rudget who wanted to. A very special thanks to Moonriddengirl for her eloquence.

Good on you for getting rid of that guy, of course, but I thought that IP blocks were usually not indefinite, since it's a virtual certainty that somebody else will wind up on the IP sooner or later. Maybe you should downgrade it to a year or so? <eleland/talkedits> 19:31, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

Hello

Hello. I'm a beginner of wikipedia. May you help me? Anti-Americanism. i find some edit is wrong. but i can't edit. article protected. in fornt of page, "unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled" i'm a new user. i found you can edit this page. so may you help me?

"In South Korea, two junior high school students were killed by American military personnel in a traffic accident at the final stage of a presidential election in 2002. As a result, the Korean public opinion was enraged and Roh Moo-hyun, who advocated anti-Americanism, was elected President. President Roh Moo-Hyun and his administration considerably weakened the alliance of the United States and South Korea. Also, the Iraq War and foreign policy of America was invoked as rationales for inciting negative attitudes towards America in South Korea. In 2007 anti-Americanism spreads rapidly. "

in this, "In 2007 anti-Americanism spreads rapidly. " source is "rape of okinawa". so not relation with south korea. it is obvious WRONG. must move to japan relation sentence. i think this article need rewrite or clean.

The LGBT studies WikiProject Newsletter!
Issue XII - December 1, 2007

Here comes Santa Claus, Here comes Santa Claus, right down Santa Claus lane! Ho, ho ho (but not that kind of ho!) and Merry Christmas, everybody! Yes, that's right. It's time for the Christmas edition of the LGBT Love Boat newsletter. This homo Love Boat is cruising into Christmas and counting down the days to a brand new year! It doesn't matter if you're Christian or belong to some other, more obscure sect. Jesus loves you one and all, so let's curl up around the fire, sing some carols, drink some egg nog, and have a gay old time. But before we do, perhaps your chipper cruise director Miss Julie should spread the gender bendin' news from everyone's favorite project....

Table of Contents

Quelle Suprise! King James is a Queen!
Our dear Haiduc, never a stranger to controversy, recently decided to delve into the wardrobe of the British Monarchy, and what did he discover? King James had more than appreciative eyes for strapping young men! Naturally, Haiduc felt the need to share this news with the community, but instead of being praised for his scholarship, he was reviled. In fact, one rabid heterocentrist even rummaged around in his own wardrobe until he found an old pair of socks to play with. All seemed lost until astute editor Jeffpw noticed some odd postings and did some sleuthing of his own. The socks were uncovered, the Wicked Witch was melted and readers the world over were able to learn that Good King James regularly ordered tube steak from the menu of the day. Thank you, Haiduc! Thank you, Jeff! And let Miss Julie add (for readers who might not know) that tube steak tastes just like chicken!

It's Britney, Bitch!
Well, maybe it's not Miss Thang, herself, but it's the next best thing: Chris Crocker! he stirs up just about as much controversy as his idol does, even here on Misplaced Pages. Though it's all a bit of a muddle, one of our editors hopes you can drop by the talk page and leave a message of hope for those battling the forces of obstructionism in that little corner of the Wiki World. It is so hard to spread enlightenment. As Miss Parker herself said, "You can lead a whore to culture, but you can't make her think".

Game show for nerds
Wallowing in cash from the latest beg-a-thon, the powers-that-be have decided to sponser a little contest here to improve the articles, with a Grand prize of $100. Yeah. Just enough for a Burger King dinner for the family. Still, the thought is nice and the goal is noble, so we should support it. Our little Queer beehive has taken a look at what's on offer, and both the Greek Traditionalists and Daughters of Bilitis are well represented. The ever useful SatyrTN has made a little list, which can be found here (if that malignant bot hasn't archived it already, that is). So find a pal, roll up your sleeves and dive right in. Let's show this Encyclopedia just what Queers with firecrackers up their....err, I mean, let's show the others what we can do.

Jón Þór Birgisson
I can't pronounce his name, but he's awfully cute, he's deliciously foreign, and best of all...he's GAY! But he won't be for long, if certain users have their way. A concerted effort has been under way for a while now, designed to neuter poor Jon (pretend I put a little accent thingy over that O) and make him into a sort of rockin' Ken doll. So please watchlist this hunka man, and keep him queer! If anybody questions you, tell them "Miss Julie sent me".

TranSanta

Everybody loves a sequel
Readers not afflicted with Alzheimer's will remember that last month we had a little story about Alice and her harasser. That proved so popular that we bring you the sequel: Benjiboi and his stalker. After a chance meeting at the Michael Lucas article, this anonymous user took a shine to our Benjiboi, and has been showering him with attention on virtually every board on Misplaced Pages. Flattered though he is, Benjiboi finds the attention a bit distracting, and administrators have been seeking various remedies for this. It has proven difficult, as the stalker has an IP address that changes quicker than Superman in a telephone booth. So perhaps some of you would like to watchlist Benjiboi's page, and lend a hand if you see some love letters from an 11 digit friend. I was actually thinking we should get Alice's harasser and Benjiboi's stalker together. Then we could have another sequel, sort of like Freddy vs. Jason. Any bets as to who would win??

Not quite the second coming, but special just the same
Let me be the first to give a warm, wet, Love Boat kiss (though not with tongue) to our newest Project members: Jacksinterweb, Cleduc, Pigman, Becksguy and Iamandrewrice. Even in the month of our Saviour's birth, your popping into our Wikipedian lives is a blessed event indeed. As Jesus Himself said, "Live long and prosper". He did say that, didn't he? I think he said it. In any event, if he was standing next to me now, I'm sure he'd say it, and add, "Happy homo editing!"

Battle of the Misplaced Pages Stars!
Indomitable Ann Bannon is holding her own in Misplaced Pages's answer to American Idol: The Featured Article candidate list! For four feverish weeks, she has mastered the challenges and not been eliminated from the competition. Drop by the FAC page and show Ann you love her....or give her the hook (I'm not supposed to tell you how to vote). Giving our plucky Ann reason to hope is the recent promotion of List of gay, lesbian or bisexual people: Sa-Sc. If Miss Julie has her way, we will have the entire alphabet of Queerdom Featured here on Misplaced Pages soon! And I would be remiss if I did not give a warm, Lesbian salute to our own Belovedfreak, who showed Misplaced Pages with But I'm a Cheerleader that even pom poms are no protection from the Love that dare not speak its name, and got a gold star for her efforts.

Climbing the Misplaced Pages career ladder is User: Tim1965, who has not only written, but is now promoting Reel Affirmations to Good article status. Best of luck, Tim, and remember: there are no small parts, only small actors. We're sure you'll be trading that green circle for a gold star soon (assuming you get the green in the first place!).

Santa's on his gay way!

Santa needs elves
Yes, I know: packages need buying, trees need trimming, egg nog needs drinking. The holidays make many demands on our time. It's ...well, it's a bitch, is what it is. So I wouldn't blame you for skipping this little section and putting off my request until next year. But...think of the children. Our future. They need quality information about the homosexual "lifestyle" if we are to indoctrinate them properly. That's why I am asking you to drop by our Peer review area and give your meaning as to the efforts of your fellow gay Wikipedians. And think: in this season of kindness and good will to all, isn't it nice that I am pointing you to someplace where you can (in a Wikiloving way, of course) rip someone a new asshole? Think about it...and those children with their shiny, bright eyes, thanking you for contributing to their future.

Even more festively, consider joining in on the deletion discussions of our favorite articles. Here you can bandy about such words as "homophobia", "Right-wing Christian agenda" and my personal favorite, "just who do you think you're pushing around?!?!?". If you play your cards right, there might even be an extra present under the tree for you. :-D

Urgent Christmas appeal
Tovojolo asked me to ask you to edit Elizabeth Bishop as part of the Collaboration Project. She's an old dead poet (Miss Bishop, not Tovojolo. I've never actually met Tovojolo. She's probably very young and attractive. Maybe somebody should ask if she's single), but she was a flaming homosexual long before most of us had even been conceived, so we owe her some respect. Tovojolo actually asked me for the last newsletter, but Miss Julie forgot. Bad Miss Julie. She was so busy boosting morale it just slipped right by her. Nemissimo, maybe you need to crack that whip again to get Julie back in line.

Surrender, Dorothy!!!!!!!
Friend of Dorothy has attracted the attention of a group of....the more senior elements of our gay society. They disagree with our thesis that Saint Judy was the possible source of the term, and demand we change the article to reflect their contention that Dorothy Parker was the origin. The problem is, their source didn't check out. So we agreed to disagree. Well, we at the project did. They got kinda mad at us, said unkind things, and started edit warring. Though they are old, they are certainly quick, and could revert the article faster than my nimble fingers could press the undo button. To quote the divine Miss Parker, every time I saw the article on my watchlist, I thought to myself, "What fresh hell is this?". The page was protected by sympathetic administrators, but keeping an eye on it will keep Dorothy safe from future Wicked Witches of the West or East.

Ambrosia
Our dear Benjiboi has been busy indeed, lately. He recently made fruit salad out of Fruit, turning a once nasty word into a damn good article, and saving it from deletion! Congratulations, Benjiboi! I hear he has turned his attention from fruit to poultry now. Before he is through, he will have turned every major food group gay on Misplaced Pages!

Christmas came early
Yes, indeed! Valued administrator WJBscribe was raised out of the mire of mid-level management and placed squarely into the Pantheon of Bureaucracy! And Miss Julie is just too proud of him not to mention that he got the most support votes in the history of Misplaced Pages! Congratulations, WJB! We know you will not prove the Peter Principle correct!

You!
Yes, you! It's you who make this project shine! It's you who make Misplaced Pages such a valuable resource for all humanity! And it's you who make Miss Julie's dull life just a little bit better. So I want to take this moment to thank each and every one of you for all you do here. Merry Christmas, everybody! Happy Hanukkah! Festive Kwanzaa! Delirious Dong Zhi! Delicious Diwali! And for our oppressed Iranian brothers and sisters, I wish you a safe and joyous Yalda. And if I didn't mention your favorite December holiday, well, it's because I feel it's so special I should just keep it between you and me. Always remember: You light up my life!

May we all have a joyous holiday season, and a safe, healthy, happy and prosperous 2008.

With love from Miss Julie

Saltash Tunnel

Hi, I see you deleted Saltash Tunnel. The original author of this article (a new editor) was not informed of its candidacy for speedy deletion, neither were members of the relevant Cornwall Wikiproject, where its creation had been announced together with a request from the original author for work to be done on it. Could you reinstate it please to allow editors to work on it? DuncanHill 12:50, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

I have now recreated the article, with a little more context, and the appropriate cats and stubs. DuncanHill 14:32, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your message. There is an debate which may interest you at Misplaced Pages:Village_pump_(miscellaneous)#Overly_high_standards_for_new_articles.3F. I remain concerned at the failure to notify the original creator or the appropriate wikiproject of the speedying. DuncanHill 18:47, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
I found this comment highly offensive and unecessary "creating an article with no content other than some templates is nothing approaching high standards; from context do we know it was a tunnel, a person's name, a public house, a town, a farm, or a joke? It is not incumbent upon anyone to notify anyone about a speedy deletion, first; second, just because a wikiproject "claims" an article, it does not WP:OWN it; and third, if wikiproject Cornwall is in habit of filling in its missing spaces by adding articles that consist of nothing but two templates as above it is seriously amiss and way out of line of other wikiprojects. Carlossuarez46 18:51, 4 December 2007 (UTC)" The original article was created by a new editor with very little experience, I believe that WP:BITE is worth bearing in mind when dealing with contributions from new editors. The new editor, obviously aware that the article needed work, approached an appropriate wikiproject to request other editors contribute, I believe that this displays good faith on his part, as well as a willingness to collaborate. As to the Wikiproject, it is entirely untrue to allege that "Wikiproject Cornwall fills in its missing spaces by adding articles that consist of nothing but two templates". The wikiproject is not claiming "ownership" of the article - but when an editor invites a wikiproject to improve an article he created it is good manners to invite that project to participate in a deletion process. I am sorry that you do not think it appropriate to invite contributions from wikiprojects, or to invite an original good-faith author to expand his stub. DuncanHill 18:59, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
I do not understand your last comment at my talk page. The Cornwall Wikiproject was never given the opportunity to comment on the speedy, as whoever tagged the article for speedy did not bother telling anyone (and the page is on my watchlist, and I never saw the tag). The original editor entered the article as "needing attention" at the wikiproject - the speedying prevented attention being given. I still say - you should give more consideration to new editors, who may well be driven away by speedy deletions of articles they have created, especially when no-one has the common courtesy to explain what is happening to them. DuncanHill 19:10, 4 December 2007 (UTC)
Final questions on this matter to you - Who tagged the article for speedying, and how long elapsed from the article being tagged and your deletion of it? Thanks. DuncanHill 20:11, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

Nextmedium Article

Greetings - I was informed my article at http://en.wikipedia.org/Nextmedium was deleted. Your comments are as follows:

04:25, 4 December 2007 Carlossuarez46 (Talk | contribs) deleted "Nextmedium" ‎ (CSD A7: Article does does not indicate why its subject is important or significant: content was: '{{db-spam}} {{hangon}} {{wikify|date=December 2007}} '''NextMedium''' is a technology company specializing in brand integration. What criteria may I follow so that this subject is considered 'important' or 'significant'? Brio Technology

I respect your decision to reject the speedy on this article, maybe I was a little hasty. I would like to note, however, that none of the claims in this article are sourced. Unfortunately I do not have the time to visit and edit Misplaced Pages as much as I used to :( I will tag it with noref. (I think that's the tag haha). Wikidan829 (talk) 13:01, 6 December 2007 (UTC)

Regardless of above, I found Brio Technology because they were added to an article that I put a good amount of work into, Pivot Table. Recently a few images I created were tagged for deletion. I'm sure what I'm doing is legit, but I may have done something out of my ignorance and used the wrong tag. Would you be able to assist me in legitimizing my images? Deleted article I would like to work on

Hello - back on August 11th of this year, you deleted an article on Matthew Manning as a CSD-A7 (bio). I have no doubt that it was an entirely appropriate deletion. I do, however, think that an article demonstrating his notability can be written. I wonder if it might be possible to move the deleted article over to my userspace so I can give it a shot. If you don't think that would be appropriate, I will understand. Please leave me a message either way. Thanks. Risker (talk) 02:31, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

Set The Tone (Band)

Hi there,

You deleted my article on the Scottish band "Set The Tone" on the grounds of "Article about a band that does not assert significance".

I'd appreciate it if you could let me know the minimum I could put on that page in order to avoid deletion as a result of this.

At the time of writing I had been reading the page on "Love and Money", another Scottish band which already had a link to "Set The Tone", but which took you to the wrong "Set The Tone". I basically put up a bare minimum while I tried, through MySpace, to get some information from the former drummer of Set The Tone, Kenny Hyslop. While I haven't had much of a response from Kenny, he is well known in drumming circles for his experience in other bands including Simple Minds. In addition Set The Tone had two singles that reached numbers 62 and 67 of the UK top 100 charts in 1983.

I'd like to be able to build up some more detail on the band but it hasn't helped that the page has been deleted! Of course it may be that I just started it too early, but I would like to add the above information, and would appreciate it if, first of all, you could let me know if that would be enough to be going on with in order to avoid the page being deleted again, and secondly, if you could reinstate the page or provide me with the content I left there.

Thanks a lot. John

Follow Up

Thanks for your reply. I now believe I have enough information on Set The Tone to make a page that is useful. For instance I have a couple of websites, including e.g. http://www.chartstats.com/artistinfo.php?id=3700 that provide details of Set The Tone's singles entries; I also know Kenny Hyslop started Set The Tone with Bobby Paterson who was in Love and Money and also in Primal Scream. Also Kenny was in The Skids, Slik and Simple Minds. If you believe, based on that information, that I can produce a reasonably useful page I would appreciate it if you could let me know and reinstate the page so that I can update it.

Thanks

Regarding Archos Jukebox (my mistake)

I had moved some Archos pages due to a discussion, but after further study on the source link, I attempted to re-move (no pun intended), or re-rename Archos Jukebox series to Archos Jukebox as no proof of the word "series" is actually used. The attempt was fruitless, as the page was used as a re-direct page. I tried blanking it, and moving it again. Turns out that Misplaced Pages doesn't allow a blank page replaced. And then I forgot to revert the blank. I may try requesting a move to admins (from Archos Jukebox series to Archos Jukebox), and if you have the time to do so, that would be a lot of help. --Jw21/PenaltyKillah 06:53, 13 December 2007 (UTC)

RfA thanks

Thank you for voting in my RfA, which passed with 24 support, 3 oppose, and 3 neutral. I promise to work my hardest to improve the Wiki with my new tools.

Query

Based on your comments on the CFD on "admins open to recall", I'd like to have your opinion on an alternative idea with somewhat stricter norms. >Radiant< 00:44, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for supporting my RFA

<font=3> Thanks for your support, my request for adminship passed 62/0/0 yesterday!

I want to thank Snowolf and Dincher for nominating me, those who updated the RfA tally, and everyone for their support and many kind words. I will do my best to use the new tools carefully and responsibly (and since you are reading this, I haven't yet deleted your talk page by accident!). Please let me know if there is anything I can do to be of assistance, and keep an eye out for a little green fish with a mop on the road to an even better encyclopedia.

Thanks again and take care, Ruhrfisch ><>° 21:39, 15 December 2007 (UTC)

Boon Software

Hi, i believed you have deleted the page that i have created. I do understand that this page has been deleted before and i am re-creating it. However, please review my talk page. I have also consulted several of the admins who have participated in the earlier deletion of the article and they have given the go ahead to recreate it.

This article is different from the article that was tagged and deleted earlier. Please review again.

Thanks

Cristian Fleming

An editor has asked for a deletion review of Cristian Fleming. Since you closed the deletion discussion for this article, speedy-deleted it, or were otherwise interested in the article, you might want to participate in the deletion review. Omotorwayo (talk) 06:28, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

I strongly advise you to take a look at this. Omotorwayo (talk) 14:26, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Closure of an AFD

I've closed an AFD you put up a few days ago, Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Erin Brown, as keep. If you have any questions or queries, don't hesitate to ask. Thank you. Best regards, Rt. 15:33, 23 December 2007 (UTC)

Your note to me on short comments

"Please don't revert long comments placed on short dab pages as you have done. Those of us who patrol short pages looking for vandalism don't want to see the same articles over and over again." Well, wouldn't it be to your own advantage to make the comment more descriptive of its purpose? As far as I could tell, you were engaging in some kind of weird vandalism. —Largo Plazo (talk) 04:32, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Your input requested at UCFD

Please see Misplaced Pages:User_categories_for_discussion#Category:Wikipedia_administrators_open_to_recall.2FAdmin_criteria which has had substantial discussion since your nomination, and which has a proposal for reorganization, possibly leading to an early close if most concur. Your thoughts would be very helpful. ++Lar: t/c 17:19, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Transwiki prod

Apologies if you already know this, but {{subst:transwiki|Wiktionary|{{subst:PAGENAME}}}} is a good, easy to remember universal solution for prodding transwikied articles. --Closedmouth (talk) 08:27, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

North Dakota State Treasurers Category Discussion

I have responded to your comments regarding my proposal to rename Category:North Dakota State Treasurers on the relevant "Categories for Discussion" page. --TommyBoy (talk) 19:13, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

Count Sensenderfer

Would you please reconsider the deletion of the Count Sensenderfer article, which I believe was deleted in error. When the article was first started, I patrolled it and found that it was very short. I did find, though, that this is a baseball player who played a significant number of games in the 19th century (see here), which makes him notable. I indicated the article was patrolled at Special:Newpages and tagged it as needing expansion, with the Edit comment that it was a valid article, should be expanded. Another user then added some additional tags. I then suggested to the article's creator on his talk page that he expand the article. In summary, although the article is short, it has a valid place in Misplaced Pages and, when expanded, will demonstrate that. If you would restore the article, it is my hope that User:Kooaidman will expand it. If not, I will do it myself within a week. Thanks for your time. Truthanado (talk) 19:44, 1 January 2008 (UTC)

Faerie's Aire and Death Waltz

Why was this article deleted? The log said 'AFD', but I'm afraid I don't know what that means.

(Update: Sorry, I figured out 'AFD' and I found the discussion on the reasons for deleting the article. I guess I'm personally saddened by the deletion. To me, the brilliance of wikipedia is that I can (and will) find articles on just about any topic imaginable. Especially topics that no other encyclopedia would ever touch. I think "Faerie's Aire and Death Waltz" fall squarely into that category. I obviously missed the discussion, and the vote's over, but I can't help but feel sad that something like John Stump's wonderful works have been eradicated from my favorite encyclopedia.) Regarding the Seth Finkelstein DRV

Since June of last year I have made basically an open offer to nominate borderline BLP bios for deletion upon the subject's request. Back when I first tried this some editors expressed concerns that it would initate a flood of requests. It didn't; I've started exactly five of those nominations. Durova 20:20, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

Deleted Article: Pella Community Day Care Center

Hi there. I'm not a Misplaced Pages expert so I wasn't aware that my article had ever been nominated for deletion. However, the deletion log is not very helpful as it states Prod left uncontested for five days.nn whereas the article Misplaced Pages:PROD lays out the following for administrators (additional emphasis by me):

If you agree that the article should be deleted, delete it giving an informative deletion reason, such as that given by the nominator, not just "expired prod". This is because once the article is deleted, the reason for the prod is no longer visible to non-admins. If you are using an automated script, check that it does not leave an inadequate message.

Even though I missed the five day cutoff, I would still like the pleasure of knowing what could have been done to improve the article to meet standards and perhaps given the oppurtunity to implement it. If it means trudging through the snow to the Pella Library to find some outside references, it can be done. Thanks. Lemon Lover (talk) 05:28, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages:Requests for adminship/Elonka 3

Thank you for your participation in my RfA. It was definitely a dramatic debate that landed on WP:100, but ultimately was deemed a successful declaration of consensus, and I am now an admin. I definitely paid close attention to everything that was said in the debate, and, where possible, I will try to incorporate the (constructive) criticism towards being a better administrator. I'm taking things slowly for now, partially because of the holidays and all the off-wiki distractions. I'm working my way through the Misplaced Pages:New admin school, carefully double-checking the relevant policies, and will gradually phase into the use of the new tools, with my main goals being to help out with various backlogs. I sincerely doubt you'll see anything controversial coming from my new access level. :) I also fully intend to keep on writing articles, as there are a few more that I definitely want to get to WP:FA status. If you do ever have any concerns about my activities as an administrator, I encourage you to let me know. My door is always open. Have a good new year, --Elonka 01:52, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
