"Beware of the Dog (Open All Hours)" |
---|
"Beware of the Dog" is the fourth episode of Open All Hours first season.
Plot
The episode starts when Arkwright (Ronnie Barker) from his window spots some burglars leaving his shop with their booty. He responds by firing a shotgun at them. Later on, Granville (David Jason) learns that Maureen, a friend of his, has had a baby, and she hints that he is father. (It apparently happened at a party that he cannot even remember).
Arkwright comes up with a plan to foil the burglars. First he puts a "Beware of the dog" sign, then he borrows a huge Great Dane, then he just plays a cassette tape of barking noises. At the end of the episode, while Arkwright is climbing a ladder to talk to Nurse Gladys Emmanuel (Lynda Baron) through her first floor bedroom window, they hear voices in the shop. Arkwright returns with his shotgun to find Granville and Maureen. It turns out that the baby is not Granville's after all - that was just a misunderstanding on his part. It is actually Maureen's sister's.
