- Axl Rose - vocals
- Slash - lead guitar
- Izzy Stradlin - rhythm guitar
- Duff McKagen - bass
- Steve Adler - drums
The name was derived from the names of two previous projects L.A. Guns and Hollywood Roses. The line up as above released 3 albums
- Live ?!*@ Like a Suicide - a self produced EP in 1985
- Appettite for Destruction - Their first EP under Geffen Records in 1987, sold 20 million copies, had 3 top 10 singles, and hit #1 on the charts
- G N' R Lies - released in 1988 hit #2 on the charts
and then trouble starts... Adler was kicked out for his heroin habit.
In 1990 GnR goes back to the studio with new drummer Matt Sorum, and keyboardist Dizzy Reed. IN 1991 they release Use Your Illusion I and Use Your Illusion II, which debuted as #2 and #1 on the charts.
Then Izzy quits and is replaced by Gilby Clarke, GnR go on a 28 month long world tour including the Freddy Mercury tribute. While this was happening "November Rain" was the most requested video on MTV and eventually won a VMA for best cinematography.
In 1993 GnR released a collection of punk covers entitled The Spaghetti Incident Which, because grunge had started taking over, sold poorly. Over the next couple of years the band disintegrated and Axl became the sole owner of the Guns 'n Roses name. In this time there was a lot of drama and the band just kinda fell appart, everyone seemed to hate Axl, and Gnr went through like 4 guitarists.
In 1998 Axl went back into the studio, accompanied by;
- Josh Freese - drums (from Vandals)
- Tommy Stinson - bass (from Replacements)
- Robin Finck - guitar (from Nine Inch Nails
- Paul Huge - guitar
- Dizzy Reed - keyboards
And in 1999 came out with 1 new song, "Oh my God" which went on the End of Days soundtrack. They are supposed to come out with a new album called Chinese Democracy, but thats been delayed over a year, they have been dropped by Interscope and well, not too many people care anymore.
