Built in 1978 pupils from Mearns Primary, Eaglesham Primary, Kirkhill Primary and Calderwood Lodge are all part of the schools catchment area. The school is situated on Waterfoot Road. Newton Mearns is an affluent commuter suburb, and consequently the school achieves consistently high marks in school performance tables. During the month of September, Mearns Castle often attends a speech by the French President. This was started when the school donated £3000 to a French charity.
The Head Teacher is Mr Dean Smith. There are 1520 pupils attending Mearns Catle at this time. The years are built up like follows:
S1 S2 S3 S4 S5 S6 270 270 270 270 260 180
The school has recently received a new extension. The extension of the school is part of a Public Private Partnership Project with builders HBG. Mearns Castle is situated next to Maxwell Mearns Church which hosts the numerous services for all yeargroups throughout the year. It is also positioned next to Mearns Castle, hence the name, "Mearns Castle High School"
Awards and recognition
The school was one of three finalists in the Most Enterprising Secondary as part of the Scottish Education Awards 2007, which aim to celebrate successes and recognise achievements in Scottish education.
Sky Rock, a Young Enterprise company at the school, raised funds, obtained raw materials, attended jewelry workshops and created prototypes of its goal of producing 'sky high fashion at rock bottom prices'. The group was also a finalist in the Royal Bank of Scotland Young Enterprise Scotland Awards 2006. This success was repeated a year later with the Young Enterprise company, Fusion, who also achieved this much. Many thanks go to Business Advisor Sandy MacNiven..
