Bomb Threats
Jackson County High School has been the center of bomb threats through the years. The most severe one, however, was on April 11, 2007. During first period, Andrew Criswell went into the front office with a homemade bomb. He held two people hostage in the front office, until one of them tricked him into looking the other way as they left the back way. The Georgia Bureu of Investigations, local police authorities, state police authorities, the S.W.A.T Team, and Bomb Squads came to JCCHS. After two hours of negotiations, Crisswell surrendered. The other 1,800 students and 250 faculty and staff evacuated to the Jefferson Civic Center. It has been said that Crisswell was trying to make money for a relative's surgery.
Panther Football
Jackson County has a rich football tradition. In recent years, the Panthers have not been as successful as the wished, with their last season record being 0-10. The mascot is a Black Panther, based on the story of the Black Panthers. Some other traditions that have been held throughout the years is the annual rubbing of the panther and the pride monument before running down Panther Hill. The Panthers are currently being coached by Billy Kirk.
