For proposed mergers, see WP:Proposed mergers.Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Misplaced Pages. For information on retitling files, categories, and other items, see § When not to use this page.
Before moving a page or requesting a move, please review the article titling policy and the guidelines on primary topics.
Any autoconfirmed user can move a page using the "Move" option in the editing toolbar; see how to move a page for more information. If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. In such cases, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are typically processed after seven days. If consensus supports the move at or after this time, a reviewer will perform it. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved." When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time, or closed as "no consensus". See Misplaced Pages:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Misplaced Pages:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
When not to use this page
ShortcutsSeparate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Misplaced Pages:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Misplaced Pages:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Misplaced Pages:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Misplaced Pages:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Misplaced Pages:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Misplaced Pages:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Misplaced Pages:Move review process.
Undiscussed moves
ShortcutsAutoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Uncontroversial proposals
Only list proposals here that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list in this section and use {{subst:RMassist|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required. If you object to a proposal listed here, please re-list it in the #Incomplete and contested proposals section below. >
- Arenig to Floian. This geological stage has been officially renamed by the international scientific body responsible for such matters. A section detailing the meaning of the original name and the reason for the renaming will be included when the article move is completed.Abyssal leviathin (talk) 13:36, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Incomplete and contested proposals
With the exception of a brief description of the problem or objection to the move request, please do not discuss move requests here. If you support an incomplete or contested move request, please consider following the instructions above to create a full move request, and move the discussion to the "Other Proposals" section below. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.
- Mubashar Jawed Akbar → M J Akbar — Person in question is better know by this name. Also, unable to move it myself as another wiki user had made the above (wrong) move in the first place. He does not contest this move — Mikeslackenerny (talk) 06:40, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

- Peter Mogila → Petro Mohyla —(Discuss)— Currently, Petro Mohyla is the most commonly used name. Historically, Peter Mogila was common. Petro Mohyla is a transliteration form Ukrainian. Peter Mogila is a transliteration from Russian. The person was a Metropolitan of Kiev. —Greggerr (talk) 03:24, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

- Religious restrictions on the consumption of pork - Religious restrictions on the consumption of pig meat —(Discuss)— This move is to move the article to a more appropriate location, given that the restrictions discussed apply equally to ham, bacon, trotters, snouts, tails, ears etc, not just pork. --Dweller (talk) 22:37, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- 1943 Philadelphia Blue Jays season → 1943 Philadelphia Phillies season —(Discuss)— This move is to reflect that fact that the Phillies franchise never officially changed its name to the Blue Jays. Sources vary on this, but the official team history says that the team's name has not changed since the inception of the Phillies name in 1884, in conjunction with Quakers. I did not realize that the Blue Jays pages existed and created a duplicate at the new location by mistake. —Killervogel5 (talk) 19:43, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

- Tomislav II of Croatia, 4th Duke of Aosta → Aimone, 4th Duke of Aosta —(Discuss)— Its like Dr.Gonzo says, the man never really ruled the Independent State of Croatia due to his misgivings with the Ustaše leadership (per Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (names and titles)#Monarchical titles). He was also never crowned and he thought the title itself was a joke. Finally, even if we choose to ignore the above, the NDH never really de jure existed, and one can hardly be a monarch of a non-existent state. —--DIREKTOR 07:59, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
- Eastern Orthodox church architecture → Byzantine Rite church architecture —(Discuss)— Everything said in the article applies just as well to Eastern Catholic churches. Besides, there is no assertion of notability for current name. —--Kevlar (talk • contribs) 00:33, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

- Clarence Darnell Gilyard → Clarence Gilyard —(Discuss)— Per WP:COMMONNAME, there is no need to add his full name to the article's title, since he is always credited and called as Clarence Gilyard, and adding his middle name is unnecessary unless there is already somebody with the same name. —EclipseSSD (talk) 19:30, 15 April 2008 (UTC)
- Ganja (city) → Ganja —(Discuss)— revert a move from a month and a half ago which was done without discussion and contra naming conventions. - One from the Heart (film) → One from the Heart —(Discuss)— The film is clearly the primary use. The film article was recently moved to One from the Heart (film), and One from the Heart was made into a disambiguation page. But there are only two articles to disambiguate: this one and the article for One from the Heart (album), the soundtrack album (there was a duplicate soundtrack article, One from the Heart (Soundtrack), which I have redirected to the (album) article). The page One from the Heart has about 70 incoming links (the editor who moved the film page didn't fix the links), nearly all of which refer to the film. The film article should be returned to its original location. —ShelfSkewed Talk 19:46, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

- Levon Ter-Petrossian → Levon Ter-Petrosyan (Discuss). Three reasons for that:
- Accordingly with Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions (Armenian), his name must be transcribed by Levon Ter-Petrosyan;
- Levon Ter-Petrosyan is the English transcription, while Levon Ter-Petrossian is the French one;
- Levon Ter-Petrosyan is far more usual than Levon Ter-Petrossian (and Levon Ter-Petrosian with one s). Švitrigaila (talk)

- LHC → LHC (disambiguation) —(Discuss)— I'm proposing moving this dab page to allow LHC to redirect directly to Large Hadron Collider, with a suitable {{this}} transclusion to direct users to the dab page. From a global point of view, the collider is extremely prevalent in the news, and is only going to become more so over the next year. I suspect the other entries are much less likely to be abbreviated to the LHC acronym, and are less likely to be what people are looking for. —-- Mark Chovain 01:01, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

- List of primary state highways in West Virginia → List of state routes in West Virginia —(Discuss)— West Virginia Division of Highways doesn't use the term "primary state highways." The roads are referred to as "state routes" (when not just called West Virginia xx). The existing name appears to stem from a misunderstanding of the state/county systems of roads, but I am tagging it for comments rather than just moving since there have been discussion about the proper term in the past. (Edited original description to provide clarity on the move request.) —Brian Powell (talk) 19:48, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Wynonna Judd → Wynonna —(Discuss)— She is credited as just "Wynonna" on all of her albums and singles, so the naming conventions for stage names seems to apply here. —Ten Pound Hammer and his otters • 17:16, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
- Élie, duc de Decazes → Élie, duc Decazes —(Discuss)— Élie, duc Decazes did not have a "de" in his title. Whoever moved the article did not understand that family names incorporated into French titles do not include the word "de," only titles with appanages do. BoBo (talk) 14:52, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

- AEK Athens F.C. → AEK F.C. —(Discuss)— per Misplaced Pages:Naming conventions#Sports teams. First, since the team is Greek, and their name is officially written using the Greek alphabet, there will obviously be ambiguity over the correct spelling of the club's name in English. However, this can be overcome by the fact that the club's official website (http://www.aekfc.gr/) has an English language section (http://www.aekfc.gr/index.asp?a_id=296), where it can be seen that the club calls itself "AEK F.C." in numerous locations. This name is obviously recognisable, as it is not too dissimilar from the current name of the club's article here on Misplaced Pages (AEK Athens F.C.). It is not easily confused with other clubs' names either, as each of the other football teams with "AEK" in their name also include their location as a differentiator from this AEK. Finally, this name has been adopted by a significant section of the English media, as shown by this Google News search. This search shows that just as many of the returned articles refer to the team as "AEK" or "AEK FC" as refer to the team as "AEK Athens". Therefore, the proposed name satisfies all of the criteria for no ambiguity over the club's English name, and the article should be moved to "AEK F.C." – PeeJay 00:00, 12 April 2008 (UTC)
