The term narcissistic wound refers to the event(s) and/or belief(s) experienced by an individual with Narcissistic Personality Disorder that are the internalized crux of their disorder. By "probing" this "wound" a therapist can provoke an individual with the disorder and thus divine the root cause of said disorder. Although this often results in an emotional outburst on the part of the patient it is a valuable diagnostic and thereputic tool for the psychiatric professional.
