Plot

Homer gets Lisa a birthday gift that shows he knows absolutely nothing about his daughter. To make up for it, Homer hires a private detective to follow Lisa around and learn everything there is to know about her. But Homer refuses to pay so he and Lisa go to a hotel and disguise themselves. The cops find them so they escape out the windows to a circus. Homer and the detective find themselves in the hall of mirrors. Lisa finds him and Homer tells the detective that Lisa found his sobbing quietly once. And Lisa says: You do remember something! You may also remember this laser Bart gave me. And she flashes the laser in the detective's eye.
Trivia
- For the first time ever, we see what Lisa's hairline looks like in this episode when she colors it black. (Not counting 'Lisa The Beauty Queen' because she gets different hairstyles.)
- Fox announced that it had renewed the show until 2005 and its 16th season. This will make the series the longest running comedy series in US TV history save for Saturday Night Live,and it will have beaten the previous record holder for longest-running prime-time animated series (The Flintstones) by a full 10 years.
- Homer's e-mail address is also writer Matt Selman's e-mail address. Matt writes back to fans as Homer.
- Lisa ages, or at least has a birthday.
- The Couch is Groening's version of the famous 1932 photograph "Lunch on a skyscraper"
- Homer gives his e-mail address as ChunkyLover53@aol.com
- Police officer Lou indicates that his ex-wife's name is Amy.
- Homer does not say his famous catchphrase "D'oh!" in this episode.
- The FOX promo shows Homer saying "You have enough blame to be on Oz Jr.", then he said "Idea. Make a show called Oz Jr, but don't show it to ABC, they're IDIOTS!" The scene wasn't shown in the episode.
- About a month after this episode aired, Matt Selman's...err, Homer's adress was disabled due to too many sent letters. Add that in with FOX doing something about it.
