Engaging conversation you guys had about notability for inclusion on wikipedia. Here is an example of print media with exclusive coverage of Pablo Bertorello: Pablo Bertorello feature on IT Magazine —Preceding unsigned comment added by Pmrbertorello (talkcontribs) 06:50, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

Aircraft templates

Hi Gimmetrow - well, I guess "no news is good news". A few weeks down the track, we're well into the reorganisation of many articles, and have embarked on a massive templating campaign (a few hundred this month) to replace the functionality of the old "sequence" parameter of aircontent with navboxes. I'm not aware of any problems that we've encountered in the wake of the bot's work; any complications have been the consequence of editors who made idiosyncratic changes to the layout of the articles in the first place, a factor I guess I'd underestimated. Likewise, I'm not aware of any bot-work that WP:AIR is in need of just at the moment, but now that you're acquainted with our article structure and project scope and scale, you know who we'll be approaching first next time! :) --Rlandmann (talk) 09:34, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the heads-up! :) --Rlandmann (talk) 19:52, 2 March 2008 (UTC)

Padding around table

Gimme, are you able to fix this so that the padding around the table is larger, so the text doesn't run so close to the table? (Glad the Aviation project has come around, thanks for digging in to that Child development article, I'm not going there any more, give up.) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:51, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Tried something with border-spacing. 01:32, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Cool; I'll stop until you give me the green light. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:51, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Think that's it. Check link in obituary though. 01:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
How did you do that (is that thing for sale:-)  ? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:59, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
It's another set of tools. Which reminds me, would you prefer to see dates in wikitext as ], ] or as ] ]? The comma shows up on the page regardless. 02:04, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, I only learned that recently, and have tried to remember to leave off the commas, since we don't need them. But I'm not consistent about dates (don't tell Tony :-) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:06, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
OK. So what would you offer for these tools? It will probably take something more than chocolate. Gimmetrow 02:24, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, they haven't yet designed the do-it-all, know-it-all barnstar, and I'm morally opposed to Starbucks so I won't give you Latte, but I could give you your choice from my box of chocolates. Better yet, I could offer a moratorium on asking you dumb questions for, say, two weeks? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:49, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
I've heard there are other vendors that serve coffee. 21:38, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
To Gimmetrow: A gelato from Pasticceria San Marco, Corso Magenta, Milano, Italy, in grateful appreciation for ... well ... everything. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Woe is me! I searched all day, but Wiki refuses to cough up a representation of the exclusively imported only brand of coffee I drink in the USA. I won't insult you by offering my second choice (sometimes I must venture out of my humble abode) and I can't offer a trip to the better option just now, but this has all reminded me of my favorte Pasticceria San Marco; would you accept a nice gelato ? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:32, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Coffee gelato works; it's as if you're repeating a conversation with Lacatosias where I mentioned gelato and San Marco. This little tool is part of a set of gizmos in User:Gimmetrow/regexp.js. No warranty implied. 23:41, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Will I break anything? Lacatosias as in Francesco of the infamous Hilary Putnam FAC? Is he still about? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:57, 3 March 2008 (UTC)
Just check what they do before saving. Some add date links, some reformat, some remove date links. They're separate because they don't all do things entirely right. You'll have to "Empty Params" a few times to get 'em all. Don't know about Francesco now. Gimmetrow 00:05, 4 March 2008 (UTC)

Signpost

Give me a cot! There's a red link on an FFA at User:OhanaUnited/Wikipedia Signpost. It uses a template I wasn't familiar with, and it's looking for the erotic depictions FAR at archive1, but that didn't get archived? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:04, 3 March 2008 (UTC)

Karimchik

I see you've reverted a few edits by this user. They're making quite radical unsourced changes and removing lots of content. I've asked them about it on their talk page. Do you have any idea if what they're doing is correct? I have no experience in the music articles they've edited. Seraphim♥ 16:08, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't know where to look up peak ranking on certain national charts, so I'm not sure about maybe 90% of their changes. However, the other 10% are clearly incorrect, so unless this editor provides sources, I wouldn't give the other edits any benefit of doubt. Gimmetrow 20:04, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I was unsure and I noticed that other editors had also reverted some edits, so I reverted all of the changes and noted in the edit summary to contact me if I was wrong. Thanks for the reply. Seraphim♥ 20:24, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Infobox help

Hey, Gimmetrow, worried about your absence tonight, I hope all is well. If you have a chance, can you glance down through all the different infoboxes in 1988 Pacific hurricane season? They all have faulty WP:DASHes, using emdashes where they should use endashes. I tried ... no idea how to fix those infoboxes. Are you able to help? Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:17, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

I think that I fixed most of them... Bluap (talk) 04:54, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks, Bluap, much better, except those should be spaced endashes rather than unspaced (see WP:MOSDATE). When it's only a year, they are unspaced (1999–2000), but when the elements around the space have spaces themselves, then it's spaced (July 1999 – May 2000). SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:17, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
I thought they looked odd. Fixed now? Bluap (talk) 14:27, 12 March 2008 (UTC)
Beautiful; thank you so much, Bluap. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:37, 12 March 2008 (UTC)

FLRCs

I'm ready to close some FLRCs, is your bot ready to go? I added the closure boxes myself because I think in this case closing comments are needed. Also, this Featured list is in both the FL and FFL categories (it was delisted, then later relisted), I think it has something to do with the article history template, so could you fix that? -- Scorpion 20:23, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

That's how FA tracks delisted and repromoted articles. The FFA category shows up, but not the FFA banner. I'd really rather not redesign that again ;) The close boxes are important flags for the bot, so we'll have to work out something there. With removed FLs, it moves the old successful FLC and changes project assessments (FL to list). Gimmetrow 20:53, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
I didn't realize that was intentional, in that case it's fine. As for the close boxes, if they are important for the bot, then in the future I'll just add a comment at the end. As well, did you have any trouble with the bot distinguishing between which one was kept and which one was delisted? -- Scorpion 21:07, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
I don't know. Did it get it right? Gimmetrow 21:12, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, it did. -- Scorpion 21:43, 15 March 2008 (UTC)

Capping comments at FAC

Gimme, can you help me with this? It came up before, and now it's appeared again on the RCC FAC. For some reason, when editors whose sigs contain a "|" bar cap their comments, the "|" bombs out the cap. See here. Something about the bar bombs out the cap code, and their commentary gets swallowed after the first cap. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:13, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

I assume you mean {{hide}}? It's a template with a bunch of parameters, and parameters in templates are separated by "|". I can think of one way to fix it, but it would probably have side effects. Using a start and end template would be safer. See the code here, for instance. Gimmetrow 01:29, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Is there anything you don't know? Rhetorical. Thanks ! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:30, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, I'm not really sure about this one. A "|" within double ought to be treated as a pipe and not a parameter separator. Did the problem only occur when a "|" was outside a link? Gimmetrow 01:35, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Not sure, I only know that the solution was to remove the bar from the sig ... which is what Ealdgyth did, no more problems. Look at the samples in my link to the issue at User talk:Ealdgyth. For my purposes, it's solved: I asked Ealdgyth and Awadewit to remove the bars from their sigs. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:42, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Also, you can see the issue now on the RCC FAC in the Awadewit cap ... where part of the comments are swallowed. She's reviewing now, but once she finished, I'll go in and remove the bars from her old sigs. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 01:46, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it appears to be the "|" as a regular separator, not a piped link. 02:04, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

Yep ... I get it now :-) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:18, 17 March 2008 (UTC)

How's your week?

Gimme, I guess everyone at WP:FCDW is busy during Holy Week (or just ignoring me :-) because I've still had no takers for next week's WP:SIGNPOST. If no one else steps up to the plate in a day or two, would you be available to help me write up a dispatch on GimmeBot/articlehistory? While we're at it, do you remember where the first discussion occurred, about talk page clutter, that generated the idea for articlehistory and when you started it? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 19:02, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Raul and Dr pda started it. I would guess it started on Raul's talk page. 21:25, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
I was thinking, though, that it came out of a FAC discussion; do you remember when? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:28, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia_talk:Featured_article_candidates/archive21#Multi_FA_template. User:Raul654/archive11#FAC_list_Template and User:Raul654/archive11#FAC_closing seem relevant. 21:43, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
oh, my, my memory is troubling :-) I seem to remember now that it started on my talk page, and was copied from there. I'll catch up on it in a bit; thanks so much Gimme, that will get me started ... I hope someone else will do the Dispatch this week, but it's looking like Karanacs and I have to carry everything. No one else has stepped up yet. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:47, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Yep, found it at User talk:SandyGeorgia/arch7#Repromoted article talk pages. So, Dr pda did the first mockup of the ah template? And when did you become the keeper? Because at some point, it was you and me converting all the articles. And then at what point did you do GimmeBot? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:52, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Wikipedia_talk:Featured_article_candidates/archive22#Template_for_finished_FxC. Raul made a mockup but thought pda's was better. 21:59, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
What a long ways we've come; remember all those steps, all that work. OK, did GimmeBot start running simultaneously to the ah launch, or was that much after the fact? Were we doing the facfailed/promotes on ah manually for a while? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:03, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Answered my question; GimmeBot was running by Feb 2007, when we were doing all the conversions. Remember this? (Galileo Galilei talk page just before GimmeBot, and before banners.) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:13, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

And, banners in place by March, so that brackets the time frame for me. What process (closings) is GimmeBot covering now? I know it's doing featured articles, good articles, and featured lists. Anything else? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:45, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Featured portals, but not yet featured portal reviews. And it only updates the WP:GA page and counts, typically after a FA promotion. 22:52, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
But I see you botifying lots of GAs; do you just run through the page every now and then, or what trigger you to botify them? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:53, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Just slowly converting GA to AH. 23:00, 18 March 2008 (UTC)

Ugh. How can I add a sample template there without having it add the page to FA and FFA? Do I need to link to a sample instead? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:07, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Just a reminder that this gets submitted tomorrow (Monday) night. Kirill fixed the Banners section, and his edit shows how muddled my content is. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:15, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

And how is it made? My dear Mr Gimmetrow, (What an unusual name. Are you, by any chance, foreign?) I am shamefully tardy in thanking you for the delightful addition you recently gifted me, in relation to my efforts on Stonehenge in its landscape. It was most kind of you. Did you like the article? Personally, I care not a whit for the mouldering old pile of stones - take a JCB to 'em, I say, and plant the area up for pheasant shoots, much more useful - but young Horace was asked to create an article on Misplaced Pages for a school project and as the poor child is terminally hopeless, his dearest great-aunt was compelled to step in to help. He is sulking and hasn't spoken to me since, because I forgot to sign it in his name rather than my own. Too bad for the child, I say. Maybe he is now regretting misplacing my Maltesers....

AfD nomination of Linda Bollea

An editor has nominated Linda Bollea, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Misplaced Pages's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Misplaced Pages is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Misplaced Pages:Articles for deletion/Linda Bollea and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 23:59, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Clutter, drama and duplication of effort

After stable banner templates for more than a year, User:Happy-melon put the banners template up for deletion right after the Signpost Dispatch was published. AGF but ... I'm fond of collaborative editors, and this editor didn't even try to discuss the matter beforehand with Kirill and Raul or on the template talk pages, to determine if all goals could be accomplished without drama. I've just noticed that his talk page says, "I am developing a script to replace {{GA}}, {{oldpeerreview}} and several other templates with {{ArticleHistory}}", raising my concern that this isn't an editor who is comfortable working collaboratively with others, since that is what GimmeBot does. I thought you should be aware in case you want to work collaboratively with him. I remain unimpressed by the recent changes at peer review, which have not resulted in more or better peer reviews, as far as I can tell, so I remain concerned about processes and pages becoming cluttered. I'm also worried that if he develops that script as described, it will generate extra work (if he leaves steps out of articlehistory, like AfDs and other, it's harder to go back and correct the AH after the fact, no?) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:10, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Well, I don't expect AH or G-bot to be permanent fixtures. They will be replaced eventually by some better system, which might be another tab (after "article" and "discussion") for ratings and project banners, perhaps edited only by accounts with bot flags. Seems a bit unnecessary to recreate the wheel, but that's his choice. Doesn't matter to me. Gimmetrow 17:26, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
It's going to matter to me if he doesn't work collaboratively and ends up creating a script that leaves out events, so that someone else has to then repair AH. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 17:27, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
I guess this is as good a place as any to deal with these particular issues. Firstly, I don't read the Signpost - I had no idea that that article was coming. This is something I've been meaning to do for a month or more, and just happened to get around to at a horribly inconvenient time. If I'd realised that this was such a high-profile time for banner shells, I'd have waited another month. So sorry for that. I'm also sorry you feel that the Peer review reorganisation has not been effective in increasing participation there, but there is little I, or MelonBot, or anyone else, can do to fix apathy. Yes it was a lot of activity, and perhaps it has not been very effective, but the process is (in my opinion) substantially improved by the standardisation (and, ironically, decreased level of "clutter"). Fundamentally, it is easier now for the lay-editor to get a peer review than it was before, which is the most important thing as far as I'm concerned. Vis the ArticleHistory thing, that comment has been there for months, and so has the code - I'll send it to you if you want - because I have many other things to do, and ArticleHistory is a pig to get right, as you both well know from the excellent, and largely thankless, work you do maintaining it. If nothing else, I am a perfectionist - I am unfortunately also rather clumsy - but I rarely settle for a less-than-optimal solution, and if I break something, I will ensure that it is fixed. It's fair to say that I am not much of a collaborative editor - I generally work alone, and interact with other editors mainly when I have something I need, or something I want to give. But it takes all types, I guess, to make an army, or a Wiki; and I like to think that, while my edit history is as littered with mistakes as anyone else's, I've fixed just about everything I've broken, and built a few more things besides. Happymelon 23:25, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, thank you for the apology, Melon; prose isn't easy for me, writing that Dispatch was a bear, I didn't want to do it and had to pick it up because no one else would do this week, and having it invalidated right off the press wasn't fun and didn't feel nice. I do believe Kirill could have solved the entire thing without a TfD (and probably still will), so I hope you'll make more use of talk pages before XfD in the future. On peer review, I'm concerned that you all increased the overhead and lowered the time at peer review; but, that's on the pr talk page. I said long ago that two weeks isn't enough. On articlehistory, I'm concerned that you coordinate any new work with Gimmetrow, so we not have another surprise like this week. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:39, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

Help ... grrrr

Cluelessness alert, pls see the edit history at Template:FA number. No idea, but frustrating. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:51, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Is there still a problem? WP:FAS seems ok. 19:37, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

WP:FAS is ok because I reverted all of the recent changes at FA number; I don't know what they want to do or how to do it right. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:01, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, and I changed the template again. Is there still a problem? 20:02, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

WP:FAS looks fine now, but were you able to restore anything else that I reverted, since I couldn't decipher what was causing the problem? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 20:04, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't know what it looked like broken, but I'm assuming it had something to do with the line spacing in the template. 20:07, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes, when it was broken it was coming out ...

 like this ...

Something went weird here; I think I fixed it, not sure? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 14:45, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

Gimmetrow, there's an error in one of the banners at Talk:Crawley, causing a weird space in the banner template. Can you help? Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:02, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Oh, I'll just try and do that myself next time :-) Right. Thanks !! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:19, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello

Hello, why are all the Brenda Song images deleted?? Because i checked the copyright and a copy of the image from another source and i have found nothing except for the copyrighted flickr image which is posted on flickr, whcih was deleted yesterday immediately with no proof that it is a copyright violation so i am wuite suprised because no petition was made or a page for the amount of votes i am new at wikipedia but from what i have read that is not suitable. The images that were in the english page were all copyrighted and the deleter found no proof of his or hers claim. Thank you for your time. Good luck. (TutorGrl123) 10:00, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Commons does not allow uploading of copyrighted images under fair use claims. All images on commons should be licensed public domain or creative commons (with or without attribution, with or without share-alike). Flickr images licensed as "all rights reserved" are not compatible with commons, and will be deleted from there. In this case, most of the Song images were uploaded by one user who took a flickr image licensed "all rights reserved", re-uploaded it at flickr as "CC-BY", and then uploaded it at commons referring to the false flickr licensing. That's fairly serious abuse. The same commons user had also marked an image "flickr-reviewed" using someone else's signature. An admin at commons reviewed the situation, and apparently found those abuses enough to make the other uploads suspect. Gimmetrow 23:34, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

I couldn't make my monobook work around that error; I cleaned out everything and restarted, as I was trying to promote/archive since I'm going to be out all evening. Do you know how to put all the pieces back in my monobook in the correct order to get around that error? The peer review script wasn't working anyway, but I need those Drpda tools back, and I never did add your multi-tool. techno-dummie. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 18:38, 4 April 2008 (UTC)

Infobox dash

Gimmetrow, Template:Infobox Language has a faulty emdash somewhere that is affecting Nahuatl; I tried but can't find it. At Nahuatl, it's resulting in "ISO 639-3: nci – Classical Nahuatl For modern varieties, see List of Nahuan languages. " That emdash should be an endash. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 16:41, 6 April 2008 (UTC)

Is there a reason why you keep removing the image placeholder? -Mike Payne (T • C) 10:18, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes. A placeholder is unnecessary; we don't need a placeholder to hold the place. An image can be added to any article. The placeholder wording seems to encourage as much copyright violation as it does uploading free images. One could equally ask why you keep adding it? Gimmetrow 19:47, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
The placeholder has a purpose. You click it and it takes you to an Image: page, and then at the bottom of that page it lists all the pages with that image on it, and hence all the pages with no images that need them. When you click it, it takes you to a page which states, "If you hold the copyright to an image (e.g. you photographed or drew it yourself) and would like Misplaced Pages to be able to use it" as the introduction, which seems pretty clear to me. If you think the wording on the actual IMAGE is deceptive or otherwise unclear, then replace the "replace this image female.svg" image, but I don't see a need to remove it from the article. There wouldn't be one if it wasn't intended to be used. -Mike Payne (T • C) 21:24, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
(ec on my own talk page?) I don't see any need to have it. Since you have done nothing with the article except add this image, what do you care? Gimmetrow 21:31, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Huh? The beginning of that sentence starts with "ec on my talk page." which doesn't make sense... -Mike Payne (T • C) 21:35, 8 April 2008 (UTC)
Those things are truly obnoxious. And ... they remind me of another good reason to never add infoboxes, because a bot seems to be adding them to bio infoboxes. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:27, 8 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I changed the table because it was not in accord with the guidelines at WP:ACTOR, specifically removing the blue header. As far as I know I did not modify the rest of your changes to the table. Gimmetrow 19:58, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

Bot closure of FAC

On what authority has Gimmebot closed the FAC for Talyllyn Railway (, )? The article was still under review, and being updated to comments. Surely it should be a human editor who decides this? —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 06:51, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

Renaming updates

Hi - A while ago you added the by-year lists of featured article nominations (e.g. Misplaced Pages:Featured articles nominated in 2007) to Gimmebot's list of places to look when FAs get renamed. I've noticed Gimmebot handles FL renaming as well. Can you add the by-year lists of FL nominations (e.g. Misplaced Pages:Featured lists nominated in 2007 to Gimmebot's tasklist? These have been fairly recently created and are generally maintained by user:Rick Bot, which even handles renames (it notices if the nominated list isn't in FL or FFL and, if not, checks if the list is a redirect and then replaces the link with where the redirect points). I'm not sure, but my guess is that Gimmebot's procedure for doing this is a little more straightforward. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 01:01, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

No, it's the same algorithm. Should work for FL now. 03:19, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

GA in AH

Makes me crazy; several errors a day still. Since you said you've now converted them all, does that mean you'll be regularly patrolling them now? Because since you're caught up, when I find errors, rather than building the ah, I just revert the error and leave the GA template on the page, assuming you'll get to it with the bot. Is that a good plan? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:07, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Gee, I check the category and its always empty ;) Sure, I'll deal with the GA templates. I can also handle adding maindate based on the TFA blurbs. Gimmetrow 22:15, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
You bet it's always empty; I check it constantly :-) I'll let it fill up for you sometime. Should I tell Elcobbola to stop adding maindate? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 22:48, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Up to Elc. Just saying I can do it now after writing the code to verify the maindates out there. Was pleasantly surprised there were fewer problems than I expected. Fixed a couple issues where the TFA article pointed to what's now a disambig page. Haven't done the check the other way yet, but that's very low priority. Did you know there was one day without a TFA? Gimmetrow 22:54, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
What happened that day ... the previous day continued? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:39, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
WP:Today's featured article/June 7, 2004. Might be a dispatch blurb there. 23:41, 17 April 2008 (UTC)
Interesting! Elcobbola is aware (replaced by a machine :-) and I asked him to run backup while you're testing. Best, SandyGeorgia (Talk) 23:57, 17 April 2008 (UTC)

Eek, thanks; woke up to a lovely sea of red from Raul's talk page on my watchlist. Does that mean no one can post to my talk page, or only IPs? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 13:18, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks, Woody (wouldn't want to get moved to a penis, or worse, article !) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 15:28, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Here's a new twist (never seen that before): SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:03, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Apparently {{fac}} was subst'ed. People may expect the PR system to carry over to FAC. Hope the move-protection wasn't too surprising. I see you've move-archived your talk page once, but that was in 2006. Gimmetrow 21:16, 19 April 2008 (UTC)
I did ? (beats me). I usually cut and paste. Thanks ! SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:26, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

By the way, there is a confusing batch of suggestions on Raul's talk page, saying he should juggle the mainpage articles, so as you're testing your new gadget, you may have to watch for a change to something already scheduled. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:27, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

Raul juggled the dates, but I think (?) he forgot to (?) move protect today's, reactive attachment disorder ? (I don't know what I'm talking about, but there's something they usually do that's not there.) SandyGeorgia (Talk) 00:18, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Commas in dates with autoformatting

Sure, let's fix it. That table has been confusing a lot of editors ever since it was inserted, I think it was around September 2007. While all the examples are true, it may be better not to list every possible format that can be typed and how the autoformatting renders them. Sort of like adding "There has never been a report of them sleeping in trees" to the Rhinoceros article; true, no doubt, but not a helpful addition. I feel it is not the duty of the style guide to cover every feature of the autoformatting within MediaWiki. It should be enough to explain how it renders the date formats that are approved by the MOS. Well, that's what I think, but let's hear what you think we should aim for. I will watch your talk page for a few days, so you may respond here or at my talk page. Chris the speller (talk) 04:43, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

I see you've just added to WT:MOSDATE, so I'll follow up there. Chris the speller (talk) 04:48, 18 April 2008 (UTC)

The shortcut box

Hi Gimmetrow.

I was the one that created CAT:SHORTFIX. Thanks for that you have configured your bot "GimmeBot" to work through CAT:SHORTFIX. I took a look at some of the edits the bot did and it does exactly what it should. It even handled the tricky cases right and fixed inputs to other templates that in turn calls {{shortcut}}. You sure must have spent a lot of time configuring that!

Should I report to you when I have updated the other shortcut templates in the same way? I am planning to do the same changes to {{shortcut-l}}, and {{policy shortcut}}.

Question on closure of Featured List candidacy

Please see Misplaced Pages:Featured list candidates/List of Medal of Honor recipients/archive1. This list was nominated on 17 Mar 2008. There was an active discussion during March and into April, with many changes/improvements made to the article. I made a comment on 12 April. GimmeBot closed the discussion on 15 April, and did not promote the list. Can you please indicate what criteria were used to determine closure and result of closure. Thanks. (I've been on a WikiBreak and am just now reviewing a number of items.) — ERcheck (talk) 22:27, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

User:Scorpion0422 closed it by adding the transclusion to the failed log. You'll have to ask Scorpion. The bot just does the paperwork. Gimmetrow 22:49, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Re: Stub type list

Hi Gimmetrow - I have rolled back you r edit to the full stub type list. It is deliberately kept as a full list, even though it has difficulty loading on some computers and when WP's servers are running slowly. There is already a page of links of the type you turned this page into at Misplaced Pages:WikiProject Stub sorting/List of stubs - so there's no need to duplicate that in this way. If you wish to use a link-farm style stub list, please use that instead! Grutness...wha? 01:54, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

It looks like your rollback didn't work, for the same reason I couldn't edit the page otherwise. If you are successful editing the page, please update {{shortcut}}. Gimmetrow 04:20, 21 April 2008 (UTC)

Hello Gimmetrow,

Thankyou for your comments about the Blue Heelers (season 13) (talk) (FLC page) list which is currently a featured list candidate. Hi Gimme. I see you're editing today; does that mean the bot is active? I just archived three FARs and was wondering if I should do them manually.

Also, are you planning to work further on ASCII? I was going to remove it today but noticed you in the history. Marskell (talk) 11:53, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Gimmetrow, I feel so bad that I nominated this without realizing that you were involved and without consulting you on timing. I picked it simply because it was one of the oldest. Is there anything I can do to help? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 21:06, 27 April 2008 (UTC)
I'm doing some stuff, but it will take a while. Does it more need a peppering of refs or a stirring of prose? Gimmetrow 02:20, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
I haven't looked recently, but if you plan to work on it, just leave a note on the FAR so Marskell will know not to close it, and let me know how I can help. SandyGeorgia (Talk) 02:21, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
Seconding that, Stuyvesant High School's FAR just closed and I need a new project. I'll see if I can dig up some general references tonight or tomorrow, and we can use those for inlines. UltraExactZZ ~ Evidence 20:42, 30 April 2008 (UTC)

Automated article history - thanks!

I just noticed that GimmeBot is now automatically updating article history from the GA template. Many many thanks for doing that. Would it be possible to do the same with GAR? I've produced a template called {{Old GAR}} which provides the basic GAR information, just as GA does. Hopefully, then article history errors will be a thing of the past.

Well, I should let you know about this template anyway, for the next time a GAR comes to FAC. Geometry guy 16:50, 27 April 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for your help

As I said, I'm completely burnt out on fighting image battles. The band photographs were the hardest to obtain (phone calls, etc.), and if what I have isn't good enough, then they'll probably just have to be deleted. The band is reconstituting after the death of its keyboardist, and they're very busy, so it's not easy to get in touch with them. Thanks again for the help on the V'town photos. Juice Plus

Gimmetrow, it seems clear from the lastest discussion thread, and numerous others in the past that Rhode Island Red clearly has a POV in regard to the article. He has done literally hundreds of edits and only sidetracked and did edits on other subjects and topics when the heat was on for his 'review', despite being told to take a break, stop edit warring, etc. he is back and in complete and total control of this article. His words are almost verbatim a satirical site, www.JuicePlusResearch.blogspot.com that he tried to have cited as a source for evidence against Juice Plus. I am concerned over very real situation of the nuetrality of Wiki being comphremised. Articles are not to bias one way or another, there is as much research "pro" juice plus as there is negative but Red won't let any of that in the article NONE of it, he says it wasn't controlled, wasn't blind, etc....Can anything be done to monitor this article and make it a less biased and one-person's point of view article? ~~Julia Havey —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.130.245.8 (talk) 22:09, 28 April 2008 (UTC)

Misplaced Pages talk:Good articles#Good article signs, the perennial proposal for a GA icon in mainspace, will affect GimmeBotification. A bit worried that they want to add another piece of housekeeping when they haven't yet figured out how to keep up with articlehistory, but hopefully, as you do more and more, there will be less errors and issues. If the GA icon happens, it will be easy to remove them if any GAs become FA. Not sure how else it affects da bot. 04:31, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Aren't you botifying all the passes now, so you'll have to add icons as well? And remove if you do GARs? SandyGeorgia (Talk) 04:34, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

I don't see anything in the discussion there about any bot stuff. Gimmetrow 04:45, 29 April 2008 (UTC)
