Fragaria moschata or the "musk strawberry" is native to Europe. It is known for its intense flavor and aroma. It is still cultivated commercially on a small scale, particularly in Italy.

All Fragaria species have 7 types of chromosomes. Fragaria moschata is hexaploid, having six pairs of these chromosomes for a total of 42.
