Camden Town tube station is a major change over for the two branches of the Northern Line, and the busiest station on the entire London Underground. The station gets particularly busy at the weekend with tourists visting Camden Market and Camden High Street; to prevent overcrowding on the platforms, entry to the station from the street is restricted on Sunday afternoons.

Northbound the next stations are Chalk Farm and Kentish town, southbound they are Mornington Crescent, and Euston. The station is in zone 2.

London Underground are currently in the process of applying for planning permission to demolish the old station and replace it with a modern building. The plans include demolishing Buck Street Market, commonly known as Camden Market, the Electric Ballroom and several houses and shops.

In 2003 the station was the site of a derailment, which caused damage severe enough that it was closed for over a week, and trains presently do not interchange between the branches at it.

It is one of eight London Underground stations which has a deep-level air-raid shelter underneath it.
