Note: Before adding anything to the list, see the talk page to see if it complies with the definition of a fad.

The website ytmnd.com is known for its tendency to propagate a great number of fads and in-jokes. The list that follows identifies several major such fads; as such, it may be incomplete. Note that the fads almost never consist of only the elements indicated for them; indeed, the fads could not be as popular without variation. Also, these variations tend to include elements from other fads.

Movie/Television-related fads

Music-related fads

  • Raffi's "Bananaphone" song
  • Dschinghis Khan's hit song "Moskau"
  • The excerpt "Crawling in my skin/These wounds they will not heal," from the song "Crawling" by Linkin Park (often accompanied with the phrase "ANGST!") (The CRAWLING IN MY SKIN phrase was originally used to make fun of whiny forum users, attaching Linkin Park's angsty lyrics to their mood)
  • Liam Lynch's song "United States of Whatever"
  • Günther's "You Touch My Tra-la-la"
  • Various famous songs being played in reverse to show hidden messages, such as celebrities are "Nazis". Some are just fake with a voice mixed in, such as an already-famous YTMND.
  • The song "Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger" by Daft Punk. It usually accompanies animated pictures of people dancing or moving their body.
  • The song from the movie soundtrack "Space Jam" by Quad City DJs, though almost exclusively referred to as "Super Slam" and associated with Randy Savage. Derived from a Flash animation made popular on 4chan.
  • A clip from "Requiem of a Tower" (a remix of the Requiem for a Dream theme from a The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers trailer), used as dramatic music in non-dramatic events.
  • Boots Randolph's "Yakety Sax," the theme from Benny Hill.
  • Biz Markie's "OH SNAP!" from his hit song, 'Just a Friend'.
  • The song "Running in the 90's," a song featured in the anime show Initial D. Other songs featured in Initial D have been popping up lately as well.
  • Various parodies and recreations of the A-ha music video 'Take on Me'.
  • Other countries' versions/dubs/languages of popular cartoon theme songs, the lyrics of which have been "interpreted" phonetically to English, the most popular being the Finnish theme song of DuckTales, and the German version of "Do the Mario". Also, the pictures are usually of the main character saying "WTF?". (See also "Fake Lyrics" in Animutations)
  • Clips from the guitar solos featured in DragonForce's "Fury of the Storm" from the album Sonic Firestorm
  • The song Jurassic Rhythm from Chrono Trigger. It is often used to accompany a picture of someone with a grotesque appearance (usually Brian Peppers).
  • The song "Ridin' Spinnaz" by Triple 6 Mafia, often accompanied by something spinning.
  • A short clip from "Independent" by Ayumi Hamasaki, which is used as the token song in sites depicting rave culture. Glow sticks mandatory.
  • Baltimora's song "Tarzan Boy", particularly the "Ohhhh" excerpt. This song is practically a requirement for Gay Fuel YTMNDs. It's also used for most spoiler YTMNDs.
  • Misinterpretation of "Rock the Casbah" by The Clash as "Lock The Taskbar"

Video game-related fads

  • The Blob from the X-men arcade game, along with the phrase "Nothing moves the Blob!"
  • A GIF of a PlayStation Portable ejecting its disc automatically, usually with a loop of Franz Ferdinand's "Take Me Out" playing in the background. "Take Me Out" was used in the PSP commercials in the United States.

  • Parodying the Playstation 3 controller, usually its resemblance to a boomerang.
  • A scene from Mike Tyson's Punch-Out of Doc Louis riding a bike next to Little Mac, accompanied by the statement "Nigga stole my bike". The original image (third one down) was made by a member of Something Awful in a Photoshop Phriday. (Doc Louis's name in the fad appears to have been changed to simply "Nigga")
    • There is a rumor (not confirmed) that the quote "Nigga stole my bike" comes from the game 'GTA: San Andreas'.
  • Peppy Hare's catch phrase, "Do a Barrel Roll!" This has been joined with his other lines such as "Press Z or R twice!" and "They're on me!"
  • A scene from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time where Link opens a treasure chest to find various objects.

  • The World of Warcraft Leeroy Jenkins video.
  • 8-bit console (usually NES) remakes (e.g. DMX's "X Gon' Give It To Ya", Dschinghis Khan's "Moskau", Haddaway's "What Is Love", Gunther's Touch my Tra-la-la)
  • Various characters saying they "got the Triforce".
  • FPS Doug from the internet series Pure Pwnage saying "BOOM! HEADSHOT!"
  • "WRYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY", a scream associated with the series JoJo's Bizarre Adventure and popularized in a Flash video disseminated widely through 4chan. The original video combined Dio Brando's "The World" super move, which could stop time; Dio's "Road Roller", in which he crushed his opponent with a steamroller, and Shadow Dio's "Charisma", in which he screams and sends sparks toward the opponent. Of these, the "Charisma" scream is most prevalent, followed by the "Road Roller" steamroller.
  • A Dark Age of Camelot player screaming at a fellow complaining that he stole his Cloudsong.
  • Rolling balls of various random objects, similar to Katamari Damacy. Usually accompanied with the theme song, sometimes with appearances of the main character(s) of the game.
  • Depictions of many YTMND fads on the LCD screen of a Tigerhandheld gaming device.

Politics related fads

  • Jack Thompson
  • California Governor and actor Arnold Schwarzenegger
  • Accidental sentences spoken by President George W. Bush. The most popular ones include "I hear there's rumors on the Internets" and "Actually he forgot Poland" Both of these in the 2004 Presidential debates.

  • Tributes to other fads and/or YTMND itself that generally combine or incorporate many fads into a single YTMND.

Miscellaneous fads

  • Failing at life or failing in general (using the losing horns from The Price is Right)
  • Muhammad Hassan interrupting a scene, using his theme song that consists of some chants in an Arabic language, "Alleyliaaliaaa!". Hassan is known for interrupting people during his wrestling shows, which obviously inspired the fad.
  • Gay Fuel, an energy drink marketed to homosexuals. Usually paired on YTMND with Baltimora's song "Tarzan Boy." The "Tarzan Boy" song is considered equivalent to homosexuality on YTMND now. This was a forced fad made by forum members.
  • A young man named Mike, pictured apparently too drunk to stand. The original was accompanied with the text "Mike is Done," and it has since been mutated to the point that "Mike Done," has become his name by popular standard. This is another forced fad made by forum members.
  • Shock sites.
    • One of these is Ridin' Spinnas, which consists of an animated GIF of two men in anal sex, with the penis of the man on top spinning around. In the background is the song "Ridin' Spinners" by Triple 6 Mafia.
  • A YTMND featuring Bethany Massamilla, a.k.a. BethanyM, an administrator for GameFAQs/GameSpot's forums. One such example of BethanyM is "I AM BETHANYM", in which a picture of her is accompanied by an obviously male voice.
  • Spoiler of an important plot point from Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. (The plot point in question is descibed in the previous link.) Borrowing from the "Gay Fuel" fad, this fad is also usually paired with the "Tarzan Boy" song.
  • At one point (before the release of Half-Blood Prince), many Harry Potter YTMNDs were being created by one user, usually consisting of nothing more than an image of Harry Potter. However, this fad sparked a backlash, and people started to post YTMNDs insulting the most prolific Harry Potter site creator, known as Cage. Within a couple days, all of Cage's sites were deleted.
  • Pictures of the FBI, SWAT team or other covert and/or tactical law enforcement agencies accompanied with the text "BRB FBI." This fad grew from the forum and the repeated threats of FBI involvement against its users made in reprisal for raids on Natalee Holloway sites.
  • Brian Peppers, a sex offender in Ohio with an abnormal appearance, due to a disease linked to Treacher Collins Syndrome.
  • Pictures of plane, train, automobile and boat crashes called "Great Moments in _____ History." These are set to a music clip from Gorillaz' "Feel Good, Inc." - in particular, the line, "watch the way I navigate - ha ha ha ha ha!"
  • Summoning a fire spirit (The music from The Lord of the Rings trailer that is associated with the fad also became a fad of its own. The music is originally from the movie Requiem for a Dream.)

  • Parodies of the 2004 Atlantic hurricane season usually accompanied to "Rock You Like A Hurricane" by Scorpions
